Aefra, Newb on the block

Wow! And Wow! That was the most excitement and fun I've ever had! And that little Philip was so cute! I hope that Galen was able to find Danny and figure out if she was poisoned or not, how horrible! I've got to find Aeten and maybe together we can figure out what happened and reunite with our auspice bonded friends! This is all so incredible! We'll have to find a cure for Danny somehow, she's like a big sister to me! That deer i made was awesome! And that was, like, just off the top of my head n stuff! Oh man, maybe I can do something great with myself!

Aefra, after the rescue of Danerys

Permit me to introduce myself, Proctor Philip Armand Dargenio, and please endulge me as I tell the wondrous tale of one most dear to my heart. She is Aefra Lastrangele'i Mai'enha La Eisenhei Dargenio, Auspice Bound to Our Lady of the Forge Daenerys, former Queen of Fermonte, my beloved wife and the mother of our three children.

The tales of the Auspice Bound, and how they slew the great dragon Oryxis are well known to all, far and wide. Rightfully so, those deeds rang amonst the most heroic of our era. What I have to tell are the accents to this tale, what came after. And it gives the listener, I think, a more rich understanding of the woman and who she was on the inside, the person rather than the auspice bound.

I first met Aefra in ___(that city in the south where sappho is from)_____, where, entranced by her beauty, I helped her with some research in a library. I was a student of magic at the time, having just passed my tertiary exams and being what one could call rather proficient in the discipline of inanimate object enchantments. My thesis was regarding the means by which one could redirect the flow of energies from the old ways through a spatial rift into the physical world and thereby imbue certain physicalities with the specific energetics drawn from the alternate physicality of the old ways. Quite simple really, although understood on a basic level for years what I showed was that it was actually not just tapping the old ways but rather bringing a quantal fragment of their....oh but I digress. Please accept my appologies. Where was I? Yes, dear Aefra, in return for my help in the library, promised to meet me and my parents for brunch the next day, but she never showed up. I presumed that one of such importance was called away on urgent business, or that she simply was not interested in one as plain as myself, but I would learn many years later that she simply forgot. Didn't really surprise me after I got to know her better, she is quite forgetful, but never of the important things.

At any rate, it was a year later that I encountered her again at the school of magical theory in Acrea. We were both enrolling as first year students there. I wished to increase my theoretical knowledge of magic to augment the practical application thereof, and she the same. In the intervening year, Aefra had, with the help of her brethren, brought stability and prosperity back to their home island of Caminus. After the victory, she was looking forward to setting down for a spell to recouperate from her many travels. Perhaps you have heard she was an exhile from her home in the Fae kingdom of Dionysus on Caminus. She went back and requested a second audience to lift her status. You see, she was an exhile because her father, a Duke in the kingdom, and the king thought that she needed to experience the world in order to achieve her full potential. It was kind of a hard love exhile. But upon her return the first time, Dionysus was enraged that she had taken to the Angelion Grendel, at the time the King of Fermonte under the mountain, both as a true friend and his wife and Queen for a short term (it was a political marriage...really! I know Grendel well, he is now a dear friend to us both. Really. Don't give me that look. Back to my story...). Where was I? yes, Dionysus again exhiled her, but this time for her association with Grendel. When she returned after slaying Oryxis, again she recieved a different reaction. She would never tell me what Dionysus said or his reaction, I think it affected her quite deeply. Regardless, she decided, or perhaps was forced, to return to the human world, the Auspice Bound to act as her family now. I think she still quite misses her father and siblings. I had the pleasure to meet the whole family several years ago when they traveled north to Acrea for the wedding (I think on the down-low). Wonderful fairy folks.

Anyway, back to Caminus. Aefra made her home there in the capital city, and had employed and shared her artistic talents. With seed money that grateful patrons donated, she founded the "Arts School of the Forge", a place where students could be taught both fine arts and performance arts. At first, Aefra was the only teacher, and her pupils ranged from lowly urchins to the king and his sister themselves. I hear the sister is now quite adept with the flute while King Chimon II has taken to be a master scupter in his spare time, both from Aefra's tutelage. She was wise enough to entrust the oversight of the place, especially the money, to a retired businessman recommended by her friend Galen. Wise move because Aefra has always been poor with money, I do all the household finances. Over that year, more and more pupils were attracted to the school, and more teachers were taken on.

But as the year passed, Aefra's wanderlust took hold of her. She felt drawn to the school of magic at Acrea. She thought it was perhaps the bond of friendship that she shared with Grendel and the link between their rings that drew.... what? I'm telling you they are just close friends now and they have a special bond between them..... No, I'm her husband. I do not have a complex about.... Never you mind, back to my story. Anyway, I think that she has some precognitive abilities innate within her and it was actually the foresight of the love we would share that drew her to Acrea. Indeed, a year or so before she ever met me, she already had an affinity for my name. She named the elemental spawned from Daenerys betrayal with my name: Philip. Interesting coincidence, eh? Think on that. Now Philip, there's an interesting creature, I should tell you about him and Salazar. But later, where was I? Right. So she wound up enrolling in Acrea and there I met her again. She had completely forgotten me, of course. No. She's very forgetful, I told you. It does not mean that we aren't soul mates, she just forgot about me for a while, the time wasn't right before then. AH!! Do you want to hear the rest of my tale or not? Anyway, our time in Acrea was wonderful, one of learning, friendship, falling in love. Grendel was a great mentor to us both. Wipe that smirk off you face. Shao took to me immediately. He's her familiar, a shadow creature of amazing skills. And very good with the children.

Very well. We became quite close over our five years of study in Acrea, and just after graduation we were married. It was a beautiful ceremony of just a small number of our closest friends and family. We traveled for a year around the northern continent, making our way by hiring out our magical skills to the locals either for utility (mostly my work) or entertainment and spectacle (mostly Aefra's). At the end of that year, our first was born, a girl, Felicitana Dargenio. We gave the children my last name as they will likely live their lives in the human world. And a boy the next year, Bud, after Fantus' advisor in gratitude for him saving Felicitana from Archibald Grimm.

We saw all of the Auspice Bound from time to time, and usually it was not a very relaxing encounter, even when we went to visit Aeten just on vacation, it turned into an adventure. Other times they were drawn together to fix some problem. I have a theory that when two of the Auspice Bound of the Forge get together the universe aligns such that firey adventure comes their way. Never a dull moment, I tell you, when any two of them get together.

And now it seems that the whole lot of them are coming together again to save the world or some such. I have no doubt that they will. If only I could go with them, I feel left out or like I'm abandoning her, but I think she would not be able to take on this mission if not with the peace of mind that I will stay behind and care for the children. I only hope she doesn't get married this time. Cus she's already married to me!!!
