Revision as of 18:52, 15 May 2009

This page is for discussion of stuff related to the game coming up this week, no matter when that actually is. For instance, we can all assume Nate isnt coming for some lame reason and that Ed is sick of pizza and is bringing teriyaki or some other crap. They can post something here if that happens to be untrue.

Attendance and Food Preference

--Dieter the Bold 13:36, 12 May 2009 (MST) Attending. Pizza please.

ED: present, no pizza

GABE: Attending, but leaving early, around 10.

--Matts 14:59, 13 May 2009 (MST)Present, possibly late, possibly drunk. I'm gonna try my damndest to be neither.

BEN: I can put in the pizza order, but I can't go pick it up. Matt, are you eating? Dieter, do you want to go get pudge with my car?

Quote(s) of the week

Elemental: (to police chief, who thanked them for their good work) That certainly isn't going to help Viho's colossal ego. (or something like that...)

CyberJesus: I'm so sick and tired of this bullshit Thomas Kinkaid police state!

Ashbury: I grow plants that may or may not be used for pharmaceutical purposes

Ranting and Raving

Edmiao very disappointed by the 37% RT meter on the Wolverine movie. anyone seen it?

JASON: Yeah, we saw it. Its better than the previews make it look. If you can throw out a few really stupid things (most of which are directly out of the comics) its pretty good. Also, the easter egg at the end is terrible.

And, happy Cinco do Miao!

--Brandon 14:38, 8 May 2009 (MST) I saw Wolverine last night, and - even expecting only to be entertained by claws and flips and sideburns - I was disappointed. I thought that a lot of choices they made were pretty dumb (as Jason said), especially stuff that, to the best of my knowledge, wasn't from the comics, and getting past the dumb stuff didn't leave enough stuff to satisfy me. Hugh Jackman, though, is a good Wolverine, even if he's too tall. I'll give him that.

JASON: Second point: Star Trek has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 26 reviews! [1]

Edmiao still in the 90%'s on RT, so stoked. going to see it Tuesday night at cinerama or imax, not yet decided, probably at 7pm, all invited

JASON: Everyone, if possible, take a look at this and leave me some kind of comment/idea: RPG Randomness

GABE: Anybody know a good cheap online store who sells boxes of CCGs, not really looking for magic

Ed: saw wolverine and star trek.... Not as bad as i expected and totally awesome, respectively. Casting on trek was out of this world

JASON: Gabe, I think Dave and Adams Card World has the best prices for CCGs. And Ed, I agree, though I would say 'really good' about ST, I can completely understand 'totally awesome'. The actors did a great job of being the characters without imitating the original actors.

GABE: Yeah I've been checking them out. I also found wholesalegaming.com and Potomac Distribution. I'm looking for cheap older CCGs. To me it seems the whole CCG market moves really fast and if you don't pick certain ones up, poof, they are gone.

I think I will go see Star Trek...

Edmiao you know what i like the most, Bones' opening ranting on the shuttle craft. so classic.

Matts I liked it, but that plot was so convoluted they must have hired russian gymnasts to write it. Also not enough scotty. Overall, terrible plot, decent dialog, actors carried it.

JASON: I think the plot had weak points, to be sure, but a lot of them accomplished goals they needed to accomplish so they can have freedom with the sequels, and so I can forgive them. There was very little Scotty, thats for sure. He was almost just a comedy guy. My biggest plot issues had to do with the cadets running a ship and getting promoted too quickly.

Other RPG or Non-RPG or Monthly Board Gaming Day gaming Events

--Dieter the Bold 23:58, 13 May 2009 (MST) Yo, yo, yo. Thanks to Jason and his partner in crime (and gayitude) Charles, I have purchased a copy of Twilight Imperium w/ expansion. Open invite to play at 8pm in Bellevue, Saturday 5/16. Confirmed so far is myself, my friend Brennan and Jason + 1 (or two). Charles may show as may Brennan's roommate Tom, and we have room for a total of 6. The more the merrier, so RSVP your spot today!!

GABE: Is this why you called last night? If ya have room please count me in. Is it even that many players? Where are we playing? If you need a nice big place to play, my downstairs is open and has been fixed up for gaming purposes, might enjoy the space with a game like that. Drop me a line, I've actually been REALLY wanting to play this game (Dad has it (of course) but never got around to playing it).

WAIT... you have a total of 7 people already... I don't know if I want to be planning on something that isn't a sure thing. Also isn't 8 a bit late to start a game that can take around 5 or so hours to play?

JASON: Gabe, plan on coming. I think its likely Charles cant because of his wifes family being in town, and I bet Rumi will be too tired. Worst case is, she is only half-hearted, so if she comes with me and there is an extra, she will gladly nap while we play. The reason we start so late is its our game night, but you guys can meet earlier and do set up and go over the rules etc. I have a copy of the rules, so I hope to be prepared. Looking forward to it!

GABE: Alrighty, I shall try to swing by my dad's to look over the rules as well. I am still a bit iffy as I like things to be sure.

JASON: I will even guarantee to step down to ensure you can play. I know another opportunity will arise. Gabe, please come. We love you. Plus I havent seen you in ages.

GABE: Damn right you all love me! You are all nothing without me, NOTHING! Ahem. That said I don't think ya need to step down. When exactly will we know about the three maybes?

JASON: Ok, Charles cannot come to the Saturday thing and Rumi is only interested if we need her to fill out the board, so Gabe, youre in! Another fun note, the expansion allows up to 8 players...

GABE: Where are we even playing??? Why does Dieter post something then not follow up calls or here???

JASON: Because he is Dieter, or course. As far as I know we are playing at his friend Brennan's place in Bellevue. Be sure and download the rules from the website, and the expansion ones, and read them, so it wont take forever to explain. Hopefully Dieters friends are doing the same. If we have to go over the rules and then play we will not be able to finish.

GABE: Pretty sure we aren't going to finish either way.

Gabe's Mom: That's what I told you last night

--Dieter the Bold 14:23, 15 May 2009 (MST) Hey now, I didn't see a need for follow-up calls. I already had it straight with 2 of the principles, and I wasn't sure if Gabe would have the time. I'll get a yes/no from Tom later today, but regardless I think we're going to need Rumi. If she's really not in to it I'd rather not sour her on the whole thing, but it'd be great to have her.

JASON: Sounds good, I will let her know. I am looking forward to it.

Weekly Magic Whining/Complaining/Smack Talking

--Brandon 14:26, 13 May 2009 (MST) I taught a friend of mine how to play Magic this last weekend, and I gave him that Red Deck that is in the box alongside all of my decks. I hadn't looked too closely at that deck, and it turns out that it is a perfect deck to teach with, and all in all, a really well-crafted classic Red Deck, with just the right amount of hasty creatures, burn, and reach. Kudos to whoever made it (I think it's Matt, 'cause I remember Ben disavowing the face that he had created it)!

--Matts 14:58, 13 May 2009 (MST)If it had unwilling recruit in it I made it. If that deck works it's probably sort of a happy accident, but Red Deck isn't too tough to throw together, especially with our cards.

--Brandon 17:53, 13 May 2009 (MST) Don't sell yourself too short, Matt! It does indeed have unwilling recruit, and so it's your baby, and a very well-balanced baby to boot!

GABE: How does Matt's ass taste? Like a wizard?

--Brandon 12:01, 15 May 2009 (MST) Delicious! On an unrelated note, does anyone know if we have a copy of Familiar's Ruse in the collection? I want to replace the Counterspell in my Faeries deck with it.

EDIT: Also, Ben, have you picked up a bunch of Qasali Pridemages in your mad Alara Reborn card-winning spree? I want two for my Doran/Teeg deck.

Next step in Super Heroes

-> 3. Drug dealers and criminals all over the city are getting beat up, and quotes from Oliver Cromwell are left at the scene.

Edmiao guess we missed that plot point entirely?

Matts No worries, if you guys tracked down every spitball I threw up, uh, the game wouldn't be very fun.

Matts - Indian Point Nuclear Reactor Pipe Leak - see what happens when you store a radioactive genius underground??

Next step in Of Amor, Armor, and Alchemy

Current OAAAA XP: 75 base + 231 XP

Plans to save Danny-Girl from the dragon

Fight the dragon, kill it

Lyra told us where to find the freezing Tears of _____ so we can put out the dragon's breath, right before she extinguished the eternal forge flame in our temple (bitch) by sucking its soul out like a vampire. She will help us fight the dragon. In return we agreed to let her strike the killing blow IF we successfully obtain the Tears. Other allies could also be enlisted in the fight.

Swindle all around

Talk to Grundbad, get him to fight the dragon and kill it. Also, talk to Oryxis, pledge to deliver the ruby shield in return he frees Danny-girl. Dragon dies: Danny free. Grundbad dies, danny free. Win - Win.

Deal with the dragon

Give the dragon something he wants more than Danny. Say the Ruby shield or freeing Iximion.

Dragon vs Dragon

Free Iximion, tell him Oryxis is getting up in his magic shit and doens't he want to kick the shit out of Oryxix for learning magic?

BEN: everyone gets one bonus XP on account of Fantus making several very principled, character appropriate sacrifices despite their high cost. Heroic behavior begets heroic rewards.

GABE: Sweet, um, still not sure what I'm gonna do but I'll think about it today at work.

Edmiao i love getting xp from gabe's exploits. although i feel like i have to spend it on something gabe appropriate. maybe KS: your mom jokes, or just KS your mom.

BEN: it's actually: AK: your mom. should probably buy it with megascale

GABE: Why would he buy an everyman skill???

--Brandon 22:53, 4 May 2009 (MST) Wow. That was awesome, Gabe. Gabe totally deserves more bonus XP for that excellent quip.

GABE: Also Ed, its about time I get some bonus XP for us! Heh heh. You got us some for the thing with Grundel. That said we are currently at the school he is attending, although he is not around.

Edmiao sounds like an excellent place to buy a magic carpet. anyone want to lend aefra some cash?

BEN: you mean the monastic school that doesn't have a market and has an anti-magic aura? I'm not so sure that it's a good place to buy a magic carpet. But nearby Csara, where your buddy bought it, would be.

Edmiao yeah yeah, exactly what i was thinking. cus i always remember these details.

GABE: Is the above XP current?

Edmiao is now

GABE: Yoowza! Also I brought the stupid vechicle book.

BEN: it was awesome to have everyone there on Friday: sorry that the battle with the Roc took so long, and double sorry that the two people who have had to miss lately were the two that got grabbed (esp. Brandon). The characters reached Karak Bjorst and managed to get access to the Keep itself using the Seal of Juun. Next up: tracking down and hiring Fafnir, the legendary ex-pirate who, inexplicably, spends most of his time in a dwarven hold that is 100% landlocked.

--Brandon 15:51, 12 May 2009 (MST) Don't apologize. It's my fault that my character is devoted to selflessly protecting his fellows, and doubly my fault that I had extra motivation to protect Aefra because I earlier broke that tenet by hurting her (which, btw, I think was out of character. Although Tithe had reason to be more pissed at Aefra's actions than usual, given some recent events, I don't think that he would've harmed her in the way that he did, unless you chalk it up to Tithe not intending to actually harm her and forgetting how fragile she is).

GABE: Whatever, you just gave her a badge of honor. Ew... that was a little tasteless even for me.

GABE: [2]

AH HA! Now we know where we are in the game!
