Revision as of 17:50, 21 May 2009

This page is for discussion of stuff related to the game coming up this week, no matter when that actually is. For instance, we can all assume Nate isnt coming for some lame reason and that Ed is sick of pizza and is bringing teriyaki or some other crap. They can post something here if that happens to be untrue.

--Dieter the Bold 16:20, 20 May 2009 (MST) Present, pizza please.

Quote(s) of the week

Elemental: (to police chief, who thanked them for their good work) That certainly isn't going to help Viho's colossal ego. (or something like that...)

CyberJesus: I'm so sick and tired of this bullshit Thomas Kinkaid police state!

Ashbury: I grow plants that may or may not be used for pharmaceutical purposes

Ranting and Raving

Edmiao very disappointed by the 37% RT meter on the Wolverine movie. anyone seen it?

JASON: Yeah, we saw it. Its better than the previews make it look. If you can throw out a few really stupid things (most of which are directly out of the comics) its pretty good. Also, the easter egg at the end is terrible.

And, happy Cinco do Miao!

--Brandon 14:38, 8 May 2009 (MST) I saw Wolverine last night, and - even expecting only to be entertained by claws and flips and sideburns - I was disappointed. I thought that a lot of choices they made were pretty dumb (as Jason said), especially stuff that, to the best of my knowledge, wasn't from the comics, and getting past the dumb stuff didn't leave enough stuff to satisfy me. Hugh Jackman, though, is a good Wolverine, even if he's too tall. I'll give him that.

JASON: Second point: Star Trek has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 26 reviews! [1]

Edmiao still in the 90%'s on RT, so stoked. going to see it Tuesday night at cinerama or imax, not yet decided, probably at 7pm, all invited

JASON: Everyone, if possible, take a look at this and leave me some kind of comment/idea: RPG Randomness

GABE: Anybody know a good cheap online store who sells boxes of CCGs, not really looking for magic

Ed: saw wolverine and star trek.... Not as bad as i expected and totally awesome, respectively. Casting on trek was out of this world

JASON: Gabe, I think Dave and Adams Card World has the best prices for CCGs. And Ed, I agree, though I would say 'really good' about ST, I can completely understand 'totally awesome'. The actors did a great job of being the characters without imitating the original actors.

GABE: Yeah I've been checking them out. I also found wholesalegaming.com and Potomac Distribution. I'm looking for cheap older CCGs. To me it seems the whole CCG market moves really fast and if you don't pick certain ones up, poof, they are gone.

I think I will go see Star Trek...

Edmiao you know what i like the most, Bones' opening ranting on the shuttle craft. so classic.

Matts I liked it, but that plot was so convoluted they must have hired russian gymnasts to write it. Also not enough scotty. Overall, terrible plot, decent dialog, actors carried it.

JASON: I think the plot had weak points, to be sure, but a lot of them accomplished goals they needed to accomplish so they can have freedom with the sequels, and so I can forgive them. There was very little Scotty, thats for sure. He was almost just a comedy guy. My biggest plot issues had to do with the cadets running a ship and getting promoted too quickly.

JUSTIN: Saw ST twice. Enjoyed it both times. Absolutely fun. Is it in IMAX over there? It isn't here...yet.

JUSTIN: Matt, how's the wedding plans coming along? Any signs of bridezilla yet? (or would that be pronounced "BRIDUGIRRA!!!! RUNFURURRIVES!!!")

--Matts No Comment.

ED: matt, i just got a macbook. is your herodesigner program hacked? can i steal it? i think i had problems copying mine last time from computer to computer because i forgot how i hacked it.

JASON: I dont think any hacking is necessary, it should just work as long as you have java installed.

Other RPG or Non-RPG or Monthly Board Gaming Day gaming Events

JASON: Everyone one, come one, come all! Memorial Day, the 25th of May I want to have a gaming/non-gaming get together. We can BBQ, play games, talk and otherwise have fun. I am getting my downstairs spare room completely cleaned and ready so there will be plenty of room for games, and the deck is always available for sun and fun, with grilling to be had for all.

Let me know if you can come. Lets plan some kind of potluck thing. Its gonna rule.

--Dieter the Bold 11:03, 21 May 2009 (MST) I'll be there, and trying to drag a friend or two along as well. I have El Grande and Twilight Imperium to bring along.

Gabe: This depends on if Noelle works this day or not. And Dieter, you can only be there for how long?

So I've been picking up old or discontinued CCGs, and I recently got my packs for Warcry, a Warhammer Fantasy CCG (along with The Horus Heresy one and the 40k one). I played Warcry, a starter against a starter, last night and it was quite fun. Very brutal and quick, and I lost... to Noelle.

Also looking forward to Firestorm once I read the 92 page rulebook with six point font.

Saturday or Sunday 5/30 or 5/31

Edmiao anyone interested in doing anything next weekend? I have single man syndrome. could do board games + bbq at my place or a one shot.

Gabe Sure. Board games, ccgs, whatever.

JASON: Our game might be off, if it is, we should have a board game day or something. Whats up with single man syndrome? Wife on vacation?

Edmiao conference for cancer docs. in orlando, florida

Weekly Magic Whining/Complaining/Smack Talking

--Brandon 14:26, 13 May 2009 (MST) I taught a friend of mine how to play Magic this last weekend, and I gave him that Red Deck that is in the box alongside all of my decks. I hadn't looked too closely at that deck, and it turns out that it is a perfect deck to teach with, and all in all, a really well-crafted classic Red Deck, with just the right amount of hasty creatures, burn, and reach. Kudos to whoever made it (I think it's Matt, 'cause I remember Ben disavowing the face that he had created it)!

--Matts 14:58, 13 May 2009 (MST)If it had unwilling recruit in it I made it. If that deck works it's probably sort of a happy accident, but Red Deck isn't too tough to throw together, especially with our cards.

--Brandon 17:53, 13 May 2009 (MST) Don't sell yourself too short, Matt! It does indeed have unwilling recruit, and so it's your baby, and a very well-balanced baby to boot!

GABE: How does Matt's ass taste? Like a wizard?

--Brandon 15:49, 21 May 2009 (MST) Nevermind on my asking for Magic cards. I picked up what I needed. Also, I'm hoping to come by tomorrow, at least for a bit of Magic. Gabe, will you bring that Oona's Blackguard for trade? Thankee sai.

Next step in Super Heroes

-> 3. Drug dealers and criminals all over the city are getting beat up, and quotes from Oliver Cromwell are left at the scene.

Edmiao guess we missed that plot point entirely?

Matts No worries, if you guys tracked down every spitball I threw up, uh, the game wouldn't be very fun.

Plans to save Danny-Girl from the dragon

Fight the dragon, kill it

Lyra told us where to find the freezing Tears of _____ so we can put out the dragon's breath, right before she extinguished the eternal forge flame in our temple (bitch) by sucking its soul out like a vampire. She will help us fight the dragon. In return we agreed to let her strike the killing blow IF we successfully obtain the Tears. Other allies could also be enlisted in the fight.

Swindle all around

Talk to Grundbad, get him to fight the dragon and kill it. Also, talk to Oryxis, pledge to deliver the ruby shield in return he frees Danny-girl. Dragon dies: Danny free. Grundbad dies, danny free. Win - Win.

Deal with the dragon

Give the dragon something he wants more than Danny. Say the Ruby shield or freeing Iximion.

Dragon vs Dragon

Free Iximion, tell him Oryxis is getting up in his magic shit and doens't he want to kick the shit out of Oryxix for learning magic?

GABE: Anything big happen after I left?

--Dieter the Bold 12:02, 18 May 2009 (MST) Nope........... heh, heh

GABE: You jerk...

Edmiao snicker

GABE: Time to start some stuff! Fantus will have only agreed to give up his reward for the following: 10 drops of Galin's blood and Aeten promises to bring Fantus to the fountain in the old ways (and back), no questions asked. Otherwise, my character will not have agreed to the deal.

Also Fantus would not have made such a one sided deal with the witch. He will agree to give up the item, but only if it is not nessary for his long term goals. Is there anything else I could offer the witch in place of it?

--Matts 15:21, 19 May 2009 (MST)Oh hey, Aetan didn't agree to give up his bridge rock, let's all start the game over!

GABE: That is a completely insane argument. First of all we are a traveling group. Your bridge wasn't an item either that you drew power from. If you guys say... took something of mine that would be fine. Use my potions? Thats fine too. Get them all broken? That is also fine. But it is my character, and saying he agreed to something without my consent is, as far as I know from gaming, a major no no. If that is okay, then it should be okay to send characters in to fight against people even if they aren't around.

For example, if you wanted to make it that only the rest of the group said I would give up my reward, but not me, that is fine, although you'll have to convince Fantus to do so. We vote to go somewhere, fine fine.

Also Fantus's requests are not really that major.

BEN: everybody knows what items were requested, and they are all of considerable value to the characters in question. Arina will of course entertain alternatives, as all the witches have done in the past. But it better be something of considerable personal value and/or rare/valuable/effectively impossible to replace or she won't be interested. Since nothing has happened, I'm fine with backtracking to the wheelin' and dealin' again: you're all mature RPers so I assume we can just relegate the info you got to the meta-realm until you guys make a deal. Alternatively, we can let things stand with the other characters having agreed to the deal and fantus saying "no way", and you guys can sort out the details from there. Or whatever else works for people.

GABE: Yeah I'm totally down with that last option for the above named things. He is okay with giving it up long as he gets something he wants. Even more so since I still can't use over half of my points and I was hoping to barter for some item that might help me get those back.

ED: it's kind of nuts you being without your powers for so long, how bout Aefra buy a spell/power that would let her cast illusions into the magic aura dimension or whatever it was and she can put the colors to right?

BEN: yes, that would probably be ok, but you should be aware that those points will likely only be useful again rarely/never: it will have to be fairly specific so as not to go too far into the realm of "magical healing".

GABE: ((Also quick meta-game note, I don't care if I don't get the item, because I would of had to spend points on it anyway. It does irk me a bit to have a character's choice made, but am totally fine if the other characters volunteered it. This mostly has to do with Fantus seeing a chance to achieve his long term goals.))

--Matts 09:48, 20 May 2009 (MST)I'd like to point out that this situation is EXACTLY the SAME as Aetan's bridge; the bridge was a pretty big part of his character, even if it wasn't on his sheet - he was a bridge troll after all. Aetan wasn't at the meeting where his bridge was offered in exchange for whatever, so he didn't have a say in it. And, after the fact, I thought the move had a very nice poetic touch, and was quite appropriate, so it's not like I'm bitter or anything. But mechanically, the two situations are identical.

BUT, if it's going to be a huge issue, Aetan will give up his medallion and the accompanying pre-buy bonus if it gets us past this shit, though I don't think I'll be there Friday so it'll have to have been some retroactive type-thing.

GABE: Well it was a stone from a bridge, or a lot of Aefria's blood, or something else that was equally impossible. And I still don't think its the same because Aetan's mind was not made up for him.

Or you could just have the two characters give Fantus what he wants. No need to go back. If anything I'd rather we go with is that the charactered decided on it, and now Fantus will make the above two demands. That good? Aetan and Dieter's guy okay with that?

--Matts 15:22, 20 May 2009 (MST)Who said Fantus' mind was made up for him? He wasn't involved in the discussion. We as a group volunteered something that didn't belong to us, just as what happened with Aetan's bridge.

GABE: But it was his reward! Which is why Fantus, in this case because said item hasn't even been given to us, can make a demand back, MWUHAHAHA! Now you see! Fantus will RULE THE LAND WITH THE GHOST WATER AND A HEALER'S BLOOD!

--Dieter the Bold 16:22, 20 May 2009 (MST) I'm with Matt on this one, but Galen wouldn't care if Fantus needed some blood.

BEN: It sounds like we will leave things to stand "as is" with Fantus preparing to be flabbergasted and outraged when the characters tell him what they've done: consequences for breaking a hag-bargain remain in place, and now the group must convince fantus, by whatever necessary means, to give up the promised reward. Hilarity ensues. Oh wait... as an addendum, allow me to repeat: whatever Fantus was going to get is worth ZERO (none, zip, zilch) character points, so you wouldn't have to "pay" for it to keep it. It's a story device only, whether you keep it or give it away. Therefore, I agree with matt that this situation is identical to the bridge.

ED: totally agree, this is EXACTLY the same as the bridge, except at the bridge, Aefra was the lone dissenter, and this time there was no dissent. actually, there was no debate,

"give up fantus' reward?" ... "done"
"done"
"done"

I'm willing to sacrifice/invest some points to get Fantus his magic mojo back. what do i need, Images, affects another dimension? or maybe major transfom only to correct magical auras (actual effect in game would be an illusion type thing). or healing only to correct magical auras. also bought ks true magic, thought it was appropriate by now, and that will help with the theoretical realization of how such things can be done.

GABE: Well same as the bridge NOW that you've explained it better. I can most likely heal myself in time.

--Dieter the Bold 11:07, 21 May 2009 (MST) Sorry about the lack of full explanation, but we thought Ben had mentioned that when he informed you about the perfidy being done to your character, as he had made that info clear to us at the time. Also, Ed is correct that no one dissented, but Galen insisted that Aetan cease bringing up the bridge against Fantus all the time as he'll have gotten his back, by doing this. So it's not all bad for Fantus.

GABE: Can I have your character's right thigh bone as well? No more bridge talk??? YES! Oh man, I would have taken just that instead of the others, but I won't now!

Edmiao you can have galen's right thigh bone, and you can give Aefra your bone. yowza.

GABE: Mercy! I do believe it has become a tad bit too hot in here for me! Must be the vapors!
