Effect Modifiers

MoC uses many different types of Effect Modifiers (EM). Anything which can determine or modify success besides dice is an Effect Modifier. This is one of the key foundations of MoC. The players become active participants in storytelling by using EM's in such a way as to keep the story moving. Players have a limited resource of EM's, but they regenerate quickly, therefore there is no need to hoard them (and no reward for so doing). They allow players to do things that are truly amazing, without making routine dangers inconsequential.

CONCEPT: Characters should be able to succeed when they need it, but the reserve should not be infinite.

More about EM’s

This mechanic is the fundamental idea behind the workings of MoC. Effort has been made to allow a great deal of flexibility in using EM’s. In the beginning all of the different funny widgets may seem confusing. If necessary, a more streamlined game can be attempted with only beads. In a more advanced game, when all players have a firm grasp on what EM’s can do, player creativity should be significantly augmented by the variety of different types of effects which may be achieved by this diversity.

Types of EM's

MoC utilizes three types of EM's: Chips, Cards and Beads. Each of them have unique effects, yet they all operate on the same idea.
