Inspector LaPlace

A former inspector of police who stumbled across some things he probably shouldn't have, came away with knowledge that he should not pursue, and the curiosity to pursue the forbidden.

Nuts and Bolts

I think I'm happy with the 225 pt. archetype. I want him to have some minor magical powers, and not be above normal in terms of stats.

Background

I'm basing this character of of Inspector Legrasse from The Call of Cthulhu. If you haven't read the story in a while (I just read it for the first time) he is the inspector who leads the team to disrupt the cult activity, and comes away with the figure of Cthulhu that he brings to the archaelogical convention. I want to have a similar back story: I was tasked to investigate some cult activity deep in the Louisiana bayou, and led to a team to find a horrible and distressing cult ritual. One difference, though, is that one of the ritual sacrifices - the most prominent of them all - was still alive, and confessed to LaPlace that he was a member of a secret society whose aim was to do away with such evil cults. Before he died theatrically, without giving away very much specific information, he passed LaPlace a small tome. In turns out that the secret society has ritual magic of its own, and it is unclear whether its sources are different and pure or just as sinister as the cult's magic. LaPlace was quick to write off both the cult's claim to dark magics and the man's claims about the secret society, until a dark and sinister counterattack killed off everyone who had been part of the investigation team except LaPlace. He believes the fact that he held the tome saved his life. Because of this, LaPlace was curious enough to attempt to decipher the tome, and has puzzled out some minor bits of magic as well as some clues as to where to find the secret society. He fled to escape further retribution from the cult, and has traveled North in order to seek out members of the secret society who might be able to give him more information about the dire and sinister things he has come across.

Suggestions

Since the Louisiana Purchase was in 1804 I dont think thats a good setting for your previous expedition, how does South Carolina sound? Its appropriately swampy and mysterious, plus has some great AWI personalities. Check the character sheet below and let me know what you think. Some stuff is not finished, and it is all preliminary: feel free to make whatever changes you want (its your character!).
