Countess Marlene von Alptraum is the matriarch of the von Alptraum family, one of the most influential in Averland. Before the Leitdorf family ascended to electorship, the von Alptraums held the position for many generations. The family is heavily invested in the cattle trade, and Marlene has been known to accompany cattle drovers as well as participate in repelling greenskin raiders. These feats have earned her the admiration of the common man, as well as the affectionate nickname of 'Iron Countess'.
