Patrick O'Flaherty is an Orion, and the captain of the [[Pride O'Rigel]], a free trader registered in [[Orion]] Space.  He claims to be a [[Federation]] citizen, but this has not been verified.  During [[A Doomsday Like Any Other]] he and his crew were the first to encounter the [[doomsday device]].  He salvaged an IFF transponder type item which turned out to be a key to saving [[Ectair]].  His crew was subdued by marines under First Sergeant [[Stanley VanDriessen]] after Corporal [[Tom Hansen]] saw suspicious movement toward weapons.  It has never been proven that they had malicious intent.
