Ben and I spent some time talking about this a few weeks ago, and I think we will probably talk about it again. I am a lover of freedom, but it seems that when players have too much freedom the resulting game is often sub-optimal. What follows are some ideas.
Ben's Idea
Ben thought it might be a good idea to give a player the option of creating either their background or their character sheet. I think this is interesting and could work, yet it could lead to some strange disconnects.
Me, Tinkering
As usual I stole an idea and then came up with some way to tweak it a bit. I had been leaning towards total GM character creation, and its still a possibility, but maybe a little compromise is in order.
MY IDEA IS RETARDED AND IM SCRAPPING IT
Categories
Each character will be divided into 7 pieces. The GM will have control over 4 of them, the player 2. The player will choose which 3 he wants and they will then make the character collaboratively. Here they are:
Connections to other PCs
Background
Characteristics
Skills
Special Stuff
Disadvantages
If its a supers game powers and power level may be included.
This is just an idea, I dont know where I am going with this yet.
