The Date: June 5, 1999. The place: Seattle.

Two men argue in their apartment about the fate of the UW huskies; on TV, a rumpled scientist nervously demonstrates his life's work. With the poke of a pencil, an apple translocates into space.

One of the arguing men, watching the TV absently, mumbles that when comes the One, so comes the End.

A man breaks into the conference, calling himself the Highwayman, and demands the Hope Diamond and an ice cream truck full of gold bullion over UW local cable.

The Highwayman comes in to the lecture hall, exposing the man at the microphone as a fake, and a fight ensues. Those present, incliding Viho Ciquala, "Hub", and Austin Opperman, nervously look to escape.

Several hours later, the Dandy One retreats with some newfound friends to a bar(?) and the scientists and Hub interrogate a captured thug.

Acting upon the lead, the six protagonists went to a warehouse location near Burien, and witnessed what were apparently mercenary Iraqi ninjas. Who are they? Why were they leaving? Why did they interrupt a science lecture that they seemed to care little about? Stay tuned for the next issue of... Exemplars!
