For greater accuracy in abstraction starships will be divided into primary and secondary systems, and those systems can be further subdivided as necessary. This is mostly to facilitate the Techno-Babble! skill. The ship cannot function properly when any primary system is down. A primary system is considered down when none of its main functions (marked with asterisk) work.

Primary Systems

Each ship has the following primary systems: Propulsion, Power Generation, Life Support, Main Computer, Tactical and Sensors.

Secondary Systems

Each primary system also has a set of subsystems which allow the ship to function properly. Secondary systems may also have integral parts which can be called out when necessary. Tactical Sensors are considered part of both Tactical and Sensors.

Propulsion

Warp Drive*, Impulse Drive*, Thrusters*

When Propulsion is down, the ship is incapable of any self directed movement. Other vessels get +15 to their to hit rolls vs that ship. The ship without propulsion has -8 from its to hit rolls.

Power Generation

Dilithium Chamber*, Warp Core*, Secondary Batteries, Plasma Injectors

When power generation is down the ship is incapable of producing power. It can still draw power from secondary batteries if they and the plasma injectors are online.

Life Support

Climate Control*, Environmental Filters*, Inertial Dampening, Artificial Gravity, Sick Bay, Replicators

When life support is down the ship is incapable of protecting the inhabitants from the rigors of space. Anyone who is not in an environmental suit of some sort risks death from exposure.

Main Computer

Computer Core*, Networking, Peripherals, Databanks

When the main computer is down no ship function can be completed without interfacing directly with the system. This interface requires the use of a handheld device such as a PADD.

Tactical

Weapons*, Shields*, Deflector Array, Tractor Beam, Tactical Sensors*

When tactical is down the ship is incapable of attack or defense. Enemy ships always achieve lock on and hit automatically on a location of their choice.

Sensors

Long Range Sensors*, Tactical Sensors*, Special Sensory Array

When sensors are down the ship is incapable of interacting with the outside universe. Even view screens only have ranges limited to visual sight range.

Boat Bay

Shuttles, Captains Yacht, Launch Equipment*

When the boat bay is down the ship is incapable of launching shuttles or the captains yacht. The bay doors may not be opened or closed, and the interior docking equipment is non-functional.
