The computers in the [[Galactic Crusade|Space Opera]] [[Equipment Lists|book]] are rated in DPU, which are 'data processing units', which is a great way to do things (since its totally fabricated), until they get stupid and try and try and relate how many DPU equals a current computing term. Ignore any of that crap. Lets assume that a DPU is some indeterminate ridiculously huge number of cycles or vibrations or instructions or terabytes. As long as we do that, things arent nearly as stupid as they could be.

These giant systems are not just for starships, but also buildings, corporations, governments, whoever needs a giant network of computing power. These MultiComps include all the terminals, networking gear and peripherals that could be utilized by the user.

For each Tech level a ship is below the Tech level given for a particular Mk. of MultiComp, increase the mass x5. Thus, a Tech 4 version of a MultiComp Mk, VII would be 5 x 5 x 5 x 5 x 7.5 tons = 937.5 tons. This reflects the inferior technological capacities of a lower level culture. Similarly, reduce the mass of computers rated at a lower Tech level by 1/2 far each Tech level that the producing culture is above the rating. Thus a Tech/9 version of a MultiComp Mk. I is 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2 x 500 kg = 62.5 kg, reflecting the superiority of Tech/9 technology.

MutiComps are multifunction, cross purpose machines capable of performing the needs of any enterprise: commercial, government or military. These MultiComps include all the terminals, networking gear and peripherals that could be utilized by the user. The stated mass is not necessarily contained in a single unit, it could be spread among many terminals or racks, simulating data centers.

Battlefield Computers

BattleComputers are relatively compact units designed for use in fighting vehicles and by Power Armour and spacesuited personnel. The units improve hit probabilities in fire and possible hand to hand combat.
