Captain Alonzo Jerome Kamastafall is a combat engineer in the US Army reserve and former member of the 14th Engineer Battalion, 570th Company at Fort Lewis/McCord. He has recently mustered out of the active Army and has not been assigned a new unit yet. He had just accepted a position with Kjelstad Advanced Industries when the events of XCOM: Gray Dawn began. He is married to Lt Naomi Agincourt, an Air Force nurse, and they have three kids (Trevor, Marie and Lea).

Personal
AJ Kamastafall was born in Reston, Virginia and grew up in the area. His father, Alton, was a career Marine non-commissioned officer who retired as a Master Sergeant in Security Battalion in Quantico, Virginia. His mother, Cherise, worked in operations support for the FBI. AJ attended Virginia Military Institute[1], studying civil engineering.
AJ suffers from PTSD, and this is partially responsible for his retirement from active duty, though he does (did?) plan to remain in the reserves long enough to earn a full retirement. When the sweeps began, AJ was considering accepting a job with Kjelstad Advanced Industries, but was also considering moving back to Virginia. A potential promotion at Madigan for Naomi would have been the deciding factor.

Easter Eggs
On AJ's character sheet, page 2 under "Languages" is listed Ebonics. This is patently untrue. AJ took French in high school and college (but hardly remembers any of it).
AJ is the only PC that is married, and as far as we know, the only one with children.
The first kill of the game goes to AJ. Ironically, it was a mutated raccoon. He is also the first member of the group to kill another human. He ran a carjacker over with his wife's minivan.
AJ is the only PC that is not from the area (Elma), and is therefore, technically, homeless.
- Update: AJ and his wife, Naomi, have since secured housing in the Elma area for their family, and do not currently reside inside the Bunker.
Combat Armor
As an original member of Assault team Menace, AJ was among the first to be gifted a personalized set of Composite Body Armor. The engineers responsible for the surprise chose the following flair for AJ's armor:
AJ has a graphic of a fat mushroom cloud silhouetting a soldier walking coolly away from the explosion on the back. Above and below are the words “Last to Fall” and “Kamastafall.” On his right shoulder are captain’s bars, on the left is an anthropomorphized cartoon hand bomb with stick figure arms and legs and an expression of intense focus causing his lid to blow. The nametape reads “Dy-No-Mite!”
