It's unfortunate that our passion often outweighs our logic (at least for you, me and ben) in these discussions, because with a little more discipline and clinical detachment these discussions would be majority positive instead of such a tumultuous mixed bag. | It's unfortunate that our passion often outweighs our logic (at least for you, me and ben) in these discussions, because with a little more discipline and clinical detachment these discussions would be majority positive instead of such a tumultuous mixed bag.

+ | --Gdaze 11:42, 3 April 2007 (MST) Alright, all hatered for every living thing aside... I actually have learned a lot about gaming from this group. I think that when I do run this fantasy campaign for my other group, it is going to run a lot smoother due to what I've learned about GMing from this group. Growing up I was almost always the GM, and well I kinda hated it. As I never got to play a character. But now I'm very into world building. So yeah, to sum this up I'm quite pleased with gaming, although I do have a lot of other things that need my attention that is why I'm not there every Friday.

+ | --Gdaze 13:07, 3 April 2007 (MST) Oh well I love fantasy, but after playing the D&D system and looking at it again I couldn't stand that system. So I'm going to be doing a Hero Fantasy game. Basically I want to tone down the magic a bit so it isn't like everyone and their mom has magic missle. I always wanted to stay away from Forgotten Realms even though that is a pretty neat world. One thing I'm putting in is that there are 8 basic elements to creation, those are Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Decay, Growth, Celestial, Infernal. All spells will draw from one or two of these elements meaning that wizards will usually only learn one or two "domains". There are still necromancers and what have you, but they just draw from different elements, most likely decay and infernal. All of these elements are also represented by a primary god and then under them are several serving gods. I don't have the faiths hammered out yet. Been thinking of adding Order and Chaos, but don't feel that those are nessary... but still thinking about that.
+ | |||
+ | Then on top of that there are Gem Masters (using gems and stones to cast spells), Shamans (think clerics but more about communcation and power plus can make fetishs), Clerics (very limited in spells but have other "powers" based on their god, they can't make magic items but can have items they use for long periods of time turn magical), and Golem Masters (gee I wonder what they do...). Oh right and Alchemy! Alchemy is a huge part of the world as it allows those without magic spells to create things. Alchemy will be the primary maker of potions for example.
+ | |||
+ | I could just post my notes but meh... lazy. As you can tell I've worked a lot on the magic system. One other note, there is NO teleportation magic. This is a lost magic and nobody knows or can copy the lost art. Basically because to teleport you must travel between planes, and is easy to get lost or trapped or bring in monsters. Kinda took this from Warhammer... That being said there are some creatures that can teleport but all of them tend to be stuff like blink dogs, or predators. Thus they are studied when they can be captured.
+ | |||
+ | Another big aspect will be the past, and why the first races disappeared. Dragons are also a very important part of the world (as they are part of the creation story).
+ | |||
+ | The game will be run assuming the characters (I know these guys) will want to be someone. That is, build a kingdom or castle, whatever. While magic items will be a part of the game, I do want to try to make it that the hero makes the sword, not the sword makes the hero.

+ | --Dieter the Bold 20:15, 3 April 2007 (MST) I'd just like to chime in here. Jason, I value having you as part of our gaming group. We don't like the same kinds of games, your characters sometimes get on my nerves. But I've never had the kind of discussions about Gaming before I rejoined the group with you in it. If you need to take some time off to sort some shit out, you do what you need to do. I'd like to have you at gaming both for Exemplars and Gemini, but if you feel that a break now and 100% later works better for you than 50% for a while, do what's best for you. I'd much rather have you with us, then our enemy. Because then I'd have to destroy you. It's the Sith way. |
Latest revision as of 21:15, 3 April 2007
I had to take 4 weeks off because I realized how frazzled I was, partially due to me not being able to communicate with Ed, like, at all. Now I think I probably should put off Exemplars for a while until I can regain my life. So, everyone, Im sorry.
I need to apologize to Ben too. --BenofZongo 21:45, 2 April 2007 (MST)You don't need to apologize cause you didn't say anything mean, you were just arguing. You didn't convince me, although you definitely made some good points that I will take under consideration for when I GM/Play. Likewise, I'm sure I didn't convince you. That's how most discussions go, and that's cool, like you said earlier. As friends, we can all get a little rough with each other and not take it personally, at least not for long. Like I said, the only thing that bums me out is not having you as a player in my game.
That should be all for now. The rest of the page is for you guys. Feel free to kick me.

--Matts 21:22, 2 April 2007 (MST)Jason, I honestly think you're being too hard on yourself. I personally think that this process we go through, though it seems interminable and draining, results in a better understanding of gaming and fun, whether consciously or not. Personally, I don't think any argument that contains a refusal to contrast new ideas with our current ideas, or a refusal to examine our motives or methods, can be successfully leveled.
I know you probably think of yourself as an instigator, and that you've done nothing but caused everyone a headache, but honestly, all this talk has spurred me to do more serious thinking about games and the nature of play, and on top of that I still have fun when I game.
It's unfortunate that our passion often outweighs our logic (at least for you, me and ben) in these discussions, because with a little more discipline and clinical detachment these discussions would be majority positive instead of such a tumultuous mixed bag.
