− | --[[User: | + | --[[User:Brandon|Brandon]] 23:34, 3 July 2008 (MST) Yeah, tarmagoyf isn't terribly special in terms of abilities, etc., but it is an amazingly good utility creature. In most games it'll be at LEAST 3/4 pretty quickly, and usually can get to a pretty gross 5/6 or 6/7. And remember that it's a two-drop, so it's not all that bad to lose it to a removal spell. And removal spells don't always work as well as you might think. For example, even with no cards in the graveyard to begin with, it automatically survives a [http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?name=tarfire Tarfire]. Which, as you say, is why adding tribal stuff (and planeswalkers) makes it better than ever. |
Oh, and if it ends up being just you (Gabe) and I on Sunday, I'd be happy to have you over to my spot. I'm not sure I'll have a car that day, but I might be able to arrange it. | Oh, and if it ends up being just you (Gabe) and I on Sunday, I'd be happy to have you over to my spot. Revision as of 00:34, 4 July 2008
This page is for discussion of stuff related to the game coming up this week, no matter when that actually is. For instance, we can all assume Nate isnt coming for some lame reason and that Ed is sick of pizza and is bringing teriyaki or some other crap. They can post something here if that happens to be untrue.

GABE: Not sure if you all noticed but next week I won't be at gaming, Noelle gets back around that date and need to make some time for her.
That said I'd still like to run WW on the 25th if thats okay. Just so we can keep at it so to speak. \ BEN: umm...this week 7/4/08, NEXT week 7/11/08, NEXT NEXT week 7/18/08. I assume you will be gone on the 18th? or does she actually get back next week, which means you will miss gaming the night of the llth?
GABE: Haha, I guess I count time as in when we game, so I didn't count this week since we aren't gaming, haha. Yes, the 18th as I put above.
Ranting and raving or other random comments
--Edmiao 22:39, 2 July 2008 (MST) brandon, what was that wine that we had at the last magic session at your place, do you recall? it was a red, cheryl liked it and she never likes red wines, so i thought i might go looking for it.
--Brandon 22:57, 2 July 2008 (MST) Hmmm. I'm pretty sure that it was a Fidelitas blend, but I'm not sure what year, etc.
BEN: my paper got accepted to the Journal of Biological Chemistry!
JASON: Rawk duh house, yo.
GABE: Sweeeeet, congratz!
--Edmiao 11:34, 3 July 2008 (MST) Lo the mighty stride amongst trembling giants.
--Brandon 18:47, 3 July 2008 (MST) That's awesome, Ben! I mean, uh, lo the stupid hobbits, er, kithkin slide amidst your giant brain-muscles. Or something.
Other RPG or Non-RPG gaming Events
Dark Knight
I've just purchased tickets for myself and kim for SATURDAY, JULY 19th at 9 PM at the seattle IMAX. Anyone else who wants to come see THE superhero movie with us on THE big screen, feel free.
KIM: Count Mark and April in! I'll cover their tix.
JASON: I got tickets for the midnight opening at the Cinerama. I am also considering hitting the IMAX with you guys.
JULY 4th
JASON: To all you knuckleheads, come to my place the 4th for shish kebabs and Rock Band. Plus fireworks. And stuff. The stuffest kind of stuff ev3r. Who can attend? I would like to have some idea for planning purposes. I will be going to Bens during the day to help, so I could arrange a trip to my house, and there might even be room for a sleepy person or two.
--Edmiao 09:35, 3 July 2008 (MST)I'm out for all events this weekend, parents and bro in law in town. unfortunate as i'm jonesin for some magic
--Dieter the Bold 13:02, 16 June 2008 (MST) Gentlemen, and lady: It's finally dawned on me that in 3 weeks it will be the 4th of July. On a Friday, no less. I think, given the date, we should be a little more proactive in determining our whereabouts. I already see Ed has declared himself busy. Is anyone else planning on crazy BBQs, late night fireworks, etc., etc.? If so, speak soon, because for those who plan on attending gaming, I'd like to put out the idea of doing a Patriot Themed One-shot or series of One-shots. Are we your average Joes caught up in a time-warp, leading us to fight in our countries greatest battles? Are the Brood invading and we must use our amazing super powers to defend Earth? Or have we accepted a race for charity with people making donations to the hero that can traverse the world the fastest (but some of our arch-nemesis have other plans?)? Regardless, as the 4th is a federally recognized holiday, and we therefore get the opportunity to take off work, I vote we have a gaming day + BBQ, and then leave the night open for more gaming or for fireworks or whatever. I look forward to your responses.
KIM: I too vote for festivities, and will bake cherry pies or other such traditional yums on request (and if you say please). BBQ is good, if heroes, count me as present, if one-shots are to be had instead, I might have a couple friends over for boardgames in the other half of the communal area. Also, isn't the other side of midnight Matt's bday?
--Matts 16:17, 16 June 2008 (MST)I'm not sure if I'm in town or not yet. I may be off having a cabin adventure. Regardless, sometime in proximity we'll party for my big day. It's only once a decade that the digits in your age add up to 10!
--Edmiao 16:40, 16 June 2008 (MST) damn, sound like fun. parents in town. so no me.
--Dieter the Bold 20:01, 19 June 2008 (MST) I hearby make the official motion to cancel gaming on July the 4th. I introduce a second motion that we hold a BBQ, movie, boardgaming day in its place. Movies to be of the classic patriotic kind. Patton, comes to mind.
JASON: If this materializes I would like to say I am 66% on attending, as well as bringing along a sidekick, some board games and possibly even some patriotic movies.
GABE: Dude, the Patriot! Nothing is better then spearing a British officer with the American flag! What is your sidekick's power or powers?
JASON: She has the power to speak Japanese and use Photoshop CS on the mac. Dont be a hater, thems some serious powers yo.
GABE: Man..., I can barely speak English and have the ability to burp after eatting even the most least gasiest of foods. My powers blow.
KIM: I'm a fan of the boardgame-bbq... may be inviting some vanilla friends to play teh scrabblez wit me, unless ya'll are down with the Kung-fu Munchkin.
JASON: Teh Scrabblez? D00d, wiik. At the very least we should play Cranium. Ill bring it. Thats a rad party game.
KIM: ooooooooooooooooooooh, CRANIUM. There's gotta be a way to make it a drinking game, no?
GABE: Man, Matt, The Authority is an awesome comic. Are these two books all there is?
--Matts 10:22, 23 June 2008 (MST)There's a ton of offshoots, like Jenny Sparks Secret History of the Authority, and I'm pretty sure there's tons of shit with Jack Hawksmoor and the Midnighter and the old Stormwatch gang, but I'm not sure how much of it is written by Warren Ellis, who did those first two books.
JASON: Let it hitherto be known that Rumi has purchased Rock Band for the wii, and if there is interest we will bring it on the 4th. What say you, gents? Also, we plan on making some shish kabobs as well.
--Gdaze 22:45, 24 June 2008 (MST) Nice, but I'm gonna bet that I will SUCK at that game, I'm terrible with beats. I know, white man bad with beats, whats this world coming to?
Hey Dieter, go check out Eve Online. They are having a 14 day free trail. Its actually pretty fun, I find it relaxing just flying around and mining shit. Or anyone else who is intersted, which I'm guessing ain't much!
BEN: A complication has arisen for the 4th. I have to have all the shit for my deck delivered on the 5th (assuming home despot works that day) so that the tile guys can start on the 7th. That means that I have to have the leveling compound down by the 5th, so I can cart all the crap up from the curb (where they will deliver something like 2.5 tons of stone plus another 1000 pounds of other shit) and put it on the deck. Since I'm gone this weekend, it is fairly likely that I will be doing a lot of said leveling on Friday the 4th. Obviously, this doesn't interfere with boardgaming etc, but it will put the kai bosh on grilling on the deck itself (depending on how much of it I need to do that day, I suppose). More as the situation develops.
JASON: I am willing to help you do some work on the 4th. I could use some physical labor. One thing is, if the deck will be unavailable, maybe we can use mine instead, if others dont object? Also, Gabe, Im terrible at Rock Band too. Even songs I can actually play on the real instruments somehow escape me so far...hehe
--Dieter the Bold 10:08, 25 June 2008 (MST) I'd vote moving it to Jason's. And the Wii actually has Rock Band? With all 4 instruments? I'll do anything but singing. It's hella fun.
JASON: It just came out like 3 days ago or something. We have only 3 instruments, but if the Guitar Hero guitars are compatible, it might be easy to have a 4th.
--Gdaze -- Thats pretty cool that the Guitar Hero guitars are compatible with Rock Band.
Dieter, you take a look at Eve Online yet? Take a gander and let me know what you think.
RUMI: Wiik. Apparently the Guitar Hero controllers are NOT compatible with Rock Band. :( Also, in regards to moving the festivities, we have a (semi) awesome view of the Space Needle! It's probably pretty cool for fireworks! :)
--Dieter the Bold 16:27, 25 June 2008 (MST) Very wiik. The Wii is awesome in some things, but an absolute travesty in others. And I'll check out EvE Online tonight, Gabe.
--Dieter the Bold 14:04, 26 June 2008 (MST) Opportunity for free beer and pizza in return for 1 to 2 hours of heavy lifting on Saturday, July 5th. A friend at work needs some furniture moved. She estimates no more than 2 hours and anytime before 5pm is fine. She'll be happy to then spring for pizza and a pitcher of beer afterwards.
Weekly Magic Whining/Complaining/Smack Talking
--Matts 10:45, 2 July 2008 (MST)In progress: [1]
JASON: Why is mana leak in there? Do you expect to be low on blue? Also, why not try red as your color, then you can use Brand. For one red you gain control of all permanents you own. Cha-ching!
--Edmiao 12:19, 2 July 2008 (MST)you don't have to buy the cards to test the deck, we can print them a la mystic snake.
GABE: Haha, you know my combo deck was going to use green with the Sky Swallower as well. Those bombshells are awesome though, you may just be able to pull that off, you need some? I have 2 I can lend ya I think.
I'm actually trying out this other deck, but I'm not sure it will work out so well.
SO. Anybody wanna play tomorrow? Or Saturday? How 'bout Sunday?
BEN: saturday I will be moving lots and lots of stuff onto my deck...anyone who would like to help will be greatly appreciated and fed as well.
--Brandon 16:52, 2 July 2008 (MST) I would love to play tomorrow (I've been tuning both my Giants and Faeries decks a bit), but I'd probably get killed in my sleep by Kate, since I've been really gorram busy lately. I could maybe play Saturday (help Ben, get, fed, play Magic?), but I'm doing a show at 4ish. Sunday is perhaps a better possibility. I'll let you know.
--Gdaze 20:05, 2 July 2008 (MST) Well, since I'll be sleeping in Saturday, and you have a show at four I don't think Saturday is gonna work, plus Ben has heavy lifting.... (which by the way I may stop by, depends if my brother is back or not.) So maybe Sunday, and MAYBE?!? tomorrow? Anyone else able to play tomorrow?
I'm making two decks, I just finished the first one which is... creaturish. The next one is gonna be a wacky mill/control deck.
--Brandon 22:18, 2 July 2008 (MST) Ok, so it looks like tomorrow is a no go, but I can play on Sunday, in between 12 and 6. Let's do it!
--Brandon 00:08, 3 July 2008 (MST) Weird. The Magic Workstation version of inkfathom witch reads "2UB: Target unblocked creature becomes 4/1 until end of turn" rather than "EACH unblocked creature becomes 4/1 until end of turn." For those who are paying attention, that's a big difference, like the difference between me winning and losing the last game I played on-line. Oh well, I'm supposed to be writing a paper anyway.
--Edmiao 09:33, 3 July 2008 (MST)i think oracle is the correct version of things, ie, probably magic workstation is wrong rather than the card has been misprinted. tell the workstation guys to fix it.
--Gdaze SO. Besides Brandon and I, is anybody else down for some magic on Sunday?
http://www.trollandtoad.com/p158099.html This is pretty nasty with the new sets.
BEN: umm....it's considered the best creature ever made in magic. ever. There are entire tournament decks that win regularly based around that creature alone. And the average price online is 47 bucks.
--Brandon 18:47, 3 July 2008 (MST) Yeah, I'm positive that the card is right as printed, and I think I already saw the complaint posted on a workstation message board, but they haven't fixed it yet. And, RE: tarmagoyf, what Ben said.
--Gdaze 21:07, 3 July 2008 (MST) Seems like the card use to be cheaper but now thanks to tribal haha. I dunno, fourity bucks for a creature card? Just paralyze it or kill it, there is so much creature removal.

Oh, and if it ends up being just you (Gabe) and I on Sunday, I'd be happy to have you over to my spot. I'm not sure I'll have a car that day, but I might be able to arrange it.
Ben, I would like to be able to offer some help Saturday, but I'm not sure yet if I'll be able to pull it off.
The Next Step in Werewolf
Next step in Super Heroes
--Edmiao 08:50, 1 July 2008 (MST)so what did i miss?
BEN: we battled the juice for a bank and the juice's reputation, then we battled silver skinned dudes for hostages at the museum of natural history, then we battled a giant demon for hot girls about to be sacrificed to an artifact, then we battled Cortez, who possessed Brim and sent ancient Aztec spirits to kick our asses and flew off in a giant steampunk ship in Brim's body. You know, the usual.
GABE: We were a little busy that day.
--Brandon 16:52, 2 July 2008 (MST) Don't forget that we became acquainted with a mysterious individual who seems to be able to (1) call you wherever you are and (2) possess an entire platoon of Roombas. Be afraid, be very afraid.
--Dieter the Bold 18:27, 2 July 2008 (MST) Especially considering who makes the Roomba
--Gdaze 20:02, 2 July 2008 (MST) Gawd help us!
