Hector Gaspar, known by his nickname Slick, is an engineer, drummer and current member of X-Com. Slick is originally from the Barcelona suburb of Born. He and his young sister Arielle were visiting the Pacific Northwest when the sweeps occurred.

From an early age Slick learned the effect minor things can have on an overall experience or situation. This ability to notice, and capitalize on, small details has been a driving factor in his success as an adult. One of the reasons he was able to succeed at creating a workable Elereum powered armor suit was because he noticed an interaction the alloy had with some weak acids that allowed him to be able to make it permeable and have it also regain its shape when finished.

Slick attended The Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona and was a good, but not exceptional, student. He was also very active in many extra-curricular clubs as well as a constant frequenter of night life. During his years at school he joined a rockabilly trio and honed his skills on the drums. After graduation he parlayed his solid engineering credentials and exceptional interpersonal skills into a more lucrative and intellectually challenging position (with a very secretive private firm) than many of his (on paper at least) higher qualified classmates. A few weeks before the sweeps he was invited to a robotics symposium in Seattle, and he was pleased when Arielle asked to tag along.

Style

Slick is well known for his personal style, which is borne from his highly cultivated attention to detail. His clothes are pressed and tailored to fit perfectly. His hair, skin and nails are well-groomed and meticulously maintained. His tattoos are high-quality works of art, arranged thoughtfully and tastefully, each with a personal touch and appropriate sentiment. His cologne and after shave are both subtle, but complementary.

But the reason he is so memorable is that his style goes far beyond the physical. He makes appropriate eye contact, and demonstrates genuine empathy when conversing. He remembers not just your name, but all of the details from past conversations, and makes a point of noticing, and commenting on, changes in others, such as new shoes, hair styles or accessories. He has an innate feel for when to listen as well as when to talk.

None of these traits individually are truly exceptional, but when combined they produce a whole person who almost always succeeds in making a positive impression on those he interacts with.

Engineering Expertise

Ever since graduating college he has worked for Boston Dynamics in their robotics division. A pet project he had been working on in his free time was a set of extendable robot arms he could use to play drums remotely, while having hands free for other tasks, be they related to music or otherwise. These simple actuated appendages formed the basis for his experimental armored suit, codenamed <>.

The Band

With entertainment options limited, Slick drew upon his musical expertise and recruited a couple of musically talented fellows from the engineering department of Bunker November to form a Rockabilly band named Bone Yard Pulp. Slick is the drummer and provides vocals. Large and brooding Torvald Gunderson lays down sick riffs on the bass, while Nicolette Lefevre provided lead guitar and vocals until recently when she bailed for greener pastures.
