BEN: I think its pretty much irrelevant, since commons and uncommons are basically worth the cardboard they are printed on.  the other factor is that you can pre order a box of boosters for 70 dollars, but a box of tournament packs goes for 80, so in the interests of keeping magic damage to my life/checkbook to a minimum, I'd get the boosters anyways.

Revision as of 14:06, 18 April 2008

This page is for discussion of stuff related to the game coming up this week, no matter when that actually is. For instance, we can all assume Nate isnt coming for some lame reason and that Ed is sick of pizza and is bringing teriyaki or some other crap. They can post something here if that happens to be untrue.

Attendance and Food Preference

4/18/08

ED: present, no pizza.

GABE: Present, no pizza this time.

--Dieter the Bold 13:20, 15 April 2008 (MST) Present. Pizza please. Also, have to make up some lost hours at work, so I may not be home until just before gaming. I'll aim for 5pm or so, though.

--Brandon 13:20, 16 April 2008 (MST) Present, and I would like pizza, though I can't pick it up this time (I'll be at a talk until right before Magic time).

BEN: I have to meet a contractor at my place at 5:30, so i can't pick up the pizza either, although I'm in to eat pizza, as always.

Nate: Hey guys, I will be in town, and would like to get in on the werewolf action. Gabe, I am familiar with the white-wolf system, so I think the only hangup during character creation might be picking gifts or whateva. Hit me up and let me know where I might be able to fill out the group. You can call me or email me at schornakn@cwu.edu. Gracias.

--Gdaze 22:11, 16 April 2008 (MST) Sure thing, since Matt is gone you okay being a warrior?

Nate: Uh yeah. That's like asking a fish if it likes water. Fo sho. I am all over being an ahroun. Is someone already a metis, or would I be able to rock one?? To hell with the lack of respect; being able to heal in any form is freaking awesome :) Also I have an idea for playing a pikey bare-knuckle boxer...hahahaha. Let me know whats good.

--Matts 08:40, 17 April 2008 (MST)I'm gone Friday? I might be, but it says PROBABLY up on the attendance thing!

--Gdaze-- Well are you in or are you... out... bitch?

--Gdaze-- So assuming you do show up Nate, do you have your heart set on a Metis? I've got a lot of NPCs in the current caren but the only Metis so far is Matt.

--Dieter the Bold 14:01, 17 April 2008 (MST) Willing to pick up the pizza with Ben's car. I should be home by 5ish, so no problem.

Nate: I am by no means set on a metis. I could totally play a homid. I'd rather tweak/ make a new character than use a pre-made one. It wouldn't take me but 10 minutes like I said since I know the white-wolf system. Are we using the old werewolf or the new one btw??

--Gdaze-- That is totally cool, please take a look at Shadowpine Caren and go ahead and pick a dude. Or uh, gal. We are using the 2nd edition so old I guess.

MATT, are you coming?

--Matts 22:04, 17 April 2008 (MST)I AM COMING

--Brandon 22:10, 17 April 2008 (MST) Hey Dieter! When are you picking up the pizza, and is it the Pudge Bros. in Wallingford where you will be picking it up? If you are picking the pizza up at Pudge Bros. after 5:30, could I get a ride with you (I'll meet you at the pizza place)? I'm at a talk until just before 5:30, and have no car tomorrow, but I could easily get from school to the pizza place. Let me know, please, or give me a call (206.250.6329). Otherwise, I'll jump on the bus. Thanks!

--Edmiao 07:30, 18 April 2008 (MST) i drive from gassworks across the montlake bridge to bens, i can pick you up anywhere in fremont, udistric, walinford. cell 245-8809

--Gdaze-- I may be unable to make it for magic (IE I've been lazy and haven't made some new decks that I've wanted to.) But I would like to play a little so maybe around 6:30 I'll arrive.

--Brandon 11:06, 18 April 2008 (MST) Sweet Ed! I'll be in Condon Hall (on the corner of NE Campus Parkway and 12th, a couple of blocks north of where I imagine you'll be driving) until 5:30ish, and can meet you anywhere in the vicinity. I'll give you a call in a few hours, or you could also just give me a call (see number above) when you are heading out. Thanks!

--Edmiao 12:12, 18 April 2008 (MST)i'll call you when i'm en route, hopefully around 5:50. will call if i am going to be late

Ranting and raving or other random comments

GABE: So this mostly goes out to Dieter and Jason. I've pretty much had it up to here with my job. When one does huge amounts of work and yet is still yelled at and told that he couldn't handle higher workloads (due to when he decides to copy and paste something) and that the higher ups are looking to "do thing differently (IE with less people, lay offs) it comes time to look elsewhere. So Dieter, is Amazon hiring? Your department? I like the idea of more flexable hours and days.

Jason, is your cheese place hiring for office type work? I love cheese... thats all I got going for that. Let me know guys, thanks.

--Edmiao 15:59, 16 April 2008 (MST)dude, who would fire the vp's sorta step-son? that said, good to be happy with your job. good luck.

JASON: We dont have something immediately, but we do have a recruitment department that screens people before we have openings, so if you have a resume, send it to jamie@sugarmtn.net and tell her you are interested in working for us. You can mention you know me.

GABE: Sweet, what is the name of your company again?

JASON: Sugar Mountain Guest Services.

ED: deiter, i have "how to draw the marvel way" in my glove box. if i forget to bring it up, remind me to go down to the car and get it.

--Gdaze 20:59, 16 April 2008 (MST) That is... quite a name Jason! ANd Ed... what else you got in your glove box, big boy?

--Edmiao 08:48, 17 April 2008 (MST) you mean besides "how to draw the marvel way" and your mom?

--Gdaze -- That must be a HUGE glove box.

--Dieter the Bold 14:12, 17 April 2008 (MST) Investigating job openings here, Gabe. I'll have an answer for you tomorrow. Have your resume touched up ASAP and I'll slip it in where I can. Any specific kind of job you're looking for?

--Gdaze -- Cool, well more then anything something where I DON'T need to talk to customers or be on the phone all the time. So no call centerish job. Do you have to do that kinda stuff? I'm really good at processing files, as I'm the best in my department at that.

I'm also looking for flexable hours. Say like being able to work from 11-7 or 10-6, something like that which I figure Amazon might have. Also what kinda pay you all get there? B'ah I'll just email ya when I'm home.

Other RPG or Non-RPG gaming Events

Monthly Board Gaming Day

--Edmiao 18:31, 14 April 2008 (MST) ben you mentioned a one shot idea, is that going to be a kind of intro/trial run into your high fantasy idea?

BEN: I was going to run the one shot I posted on my page, the one with the kids trying to save one of their number from abduction. Since both of our games are running well right now, and since my high fantasy ideas are piecemeal at best, and both Gabe and Lee have high fantasy one shots on deck, I haven't put too much effort into refining that idea. That being said, I do want to run a one-shot this weekend (Just played in a cthulu one shot on sunday, courtesy of Matt #2, and had quite a jolly old time, so my blood is up, as it were), something simple and quick. I also want to check with Kim to see if she would be interested in the faerie one shot, since I think that might be a fun concept for her: if she is, I'd probably want to run something else. I've got a couple of other ideas if there is sufficient interest to put this together. So, the bottom line is: everything is vague and undefined, except that it will not be a trial run for any kind of campaign, since there are lots of GMs on deck ahead of me. EDIT: another possibility that I've thought of for a while would be a city of tears one shot (sort of sin city-esque cop drama) that would focus on an extended chase sequence. This game would be good for a small number of players, and might fizzle completely, but its an interesting experiment I'd like to try sometime.

JASON: There is a chase flow chart in Top Secret that works pretty well.

BEN: ok, since nobody has expressed interest in a one shot, Ed and I have discussed and settled on a saturday board gaming sessino instead, likely with BBQ. We'll start at 1pm and go till we get tired (by we I mean "everybody other than me"), at BnD

--Edmiao 14:51, 16 April 2008 (MST) yeah, cheryl and i will be there for board games. i'm of course interested in one shots, but would never be able to do them on sat/sun becasue i can only ditch cheryl once a week without reprecussions, which means i'm not interested. I'm sure all attached folks can sympathize and unattached insert appropriate snyde remark here.

JASON: I dont know if we are in or not for Saturday games, but I will let you guys know. On a related note, I think I am going to do a Deadlands one shot for Sunday. Our normal game is canceled, and I would like to try this out. Anyone interested, email me or otherwise let me know.

--Dieter the Bold 14:13, 17 April 2008 (MST) Gaming with Gabe's group on Saturday. Unavailable for one-shots or boardgaming.

Weekly Magic Whining/Complaining/Smack Talking

Urza's Hot Tub deck!

--Edmiao 11:33, 17 April 2008 (MST)cool. that's my kind of deck. gonna make that in the workstation and try it out.

GABE: Holy cow, that is an awesome deck. A job designing magic cards eh? That really must be a competative job to get, kinda like the lego designer jobs.

--Edmiao 11:57, 17 April 2008 (MST) did you see akroma, flying first strike trample haste vigilance protection from red and black, 6/6 creature. the bringers of the blue/red dawn are awsome too.

--Brandon 14:16, 17 April 2008 (MST) If you like the hot tub deck (esp. the use of Angel of Despair), you might be excited by the Reaper King.

BEN: I don't know why I'm so taken with it, but the "Wizards" deck from these champion folks just seems super, super cool to me. I'd almost buy that Arcanis card just cause its the shit and the artwork rules...even the flavor text is cool. Also, go check out Akroma, angel of fury (the counterpart to Akroma, angel of wrath)..."cannot be countered" = nifty.

--71.216.15.253 10:34, 18 April 2008 (MST)Which Wizards deck? I'm here trying to make a wizards deck and we don't have any arcanis, or Patron Wizards (that I know of), not to mention what the hell is the endgame for a wizards permission deck?

GABE: Man... I may have to pick up some boosters to get some Scarecrows, those creatures just look really cool. Really really cool. I think I'm gonna make a "random shit" deck. Just grab random cards and throw them together. Isn't that what you kinda already did Ed? It will be a theme deck where the theme is no theme.

BEN: I may actually end up buying a box (ie, 36 boosters or 12 tournament packs) depending on how insane I feel...I like the concepts in shadowmoor a lot. but perhaps I can fight the callings of the dark side. We don't have any of the cards he uses in that wizards deck...they are all rare and expensive. but it's a friggin sweet deck. wizardcycling? that just rules.

GABE: Are tournament packs the preconstructed? Or just 60 random like starter decks? I suggest the boosters because you get a better % of rares and uncommons. And whose fault is this anyway that we all started playing magic again? WHO DO WE HANG???

BEN: you are wrong...tournament packs are 70 cards and give you 3 rares, 10 uncommons, and 57 commons. Boosters give 1 rare and 3 uncommons plus 11 commons. assuming boxes are priced the same, you get 12 more uncommons by buying a box of tournament packs, and the same number of rares. Since this is somethign I should definitely not do, I've already spent too much time thinking about it

GABE: I... am... wrong... how foreboding! Well I'll be! Don't the starters come with a lot more land though (least I think they come with land, I... could... be wrong...)? That would be another reason I perfer boosters, I got plenty of lands as is... I'd rather have an assload of commons to make decks with then lands. But yeah, I wouldn't even consider getting a box till I pick up four or so boosters, just to make sure I really like the flavor of the set... but I had some bad experiances in the past with magic boxes... My Fallen Empire box was terrible... and that was one of the only boxes I ever got. But dang, it sure is FUN to have an entire box of cards to open!

EDIT: Wait.. I wonder out of those 57 commons just how much is land... cuz even if like 200 of it turns out to be land you still get more with the starters... crazy... I mean you get 684 commons with the starters... maybe better to just get the cig packs then...

--Brandon 12:57, 18 April 2008 (MST) (1) I agree with Gabe that we should pick a scapegoat and punish them for our collective playing of Magic. The Next Step in Werewolf

Werewolf Recap

also, one of the baddies was going to a factory for an inspection tomorrow, we planned to follow them.

GABE: Alright guys, just to let you know these next series of actions that your characters are going to undertake are going to be pretty challanging as many take place in "THE CITY". So yeah, just a warning that actions that fail could have really bad repercussions. You know your elders are a little bit more concerned about your actions now, that said however... rules broken that aren't discovered don't really count now do they? Utitlize what you will, come up with crazy shit, doesn't mean it will work, but just saying, in my head I don't have anything down as "THIS WILL NOT WORK NO MATTER WHAT!" Well there are some things that just aren't possible but in general I'll entertain any nice idea. Just letting you all know so you don't try to play "What is the GM thinking" game.

My objective is not to kill the group, it is to give the group a challange while telling a story that the players influnence through their actions. That said people may loose characters, but this is not a goal. Also there are some things that will happen that just can't be prevented. Hope you guys won't mind that when the time comes. I think you will all enjoy it though, it is fairly... over the top in some cases. It will also give every character a chance to shine... or fail and bring shame upon the pack.

Alright, rage on, grrrr.

BEN: I heard there's been some changes in fang dagger stuff...since mine was a modded version, we should probably discuss how mine actually works to keep it from breaking game mechanics. I'd be willing to trade it in for another effect too if that would be easier.
