Revision as of 19:15, 9 September 2008

This page is for discussion of stuff related to the game coming up this week, no matter when that actually is. For instance, we can all assume Nate isnt coming for some lame reason and that Ed is sick of pizza and is bringing teriyaki or some other crap. They can post something here if that happens to be untrue.

--since matt is here on the 26th now, should we do the 3 supers and push OAAAA into the next 3 weeks?

--Matts 14:01, 8 September 2008 (MST)I'm fine with doing 3 supers, and I'm also fine with playing some more OAAA on account of being eaten by a dragon sounds awesome.

Attendance and Food Preference

9/13/08 Saturday 6pm

--Matts 10:10, 4 September 2008 (MST)Something's come up: a friend is leaving the country for good and having his goodbye party on the 12th. I intend to go, which means that there wouldn't be a Super Heroes game. I have a crazy notion, though: A one-time shift to Saturday night, assuming we can arrange for a place to hold the game. What say y'all? Or you could stick to Friday night and just play magic or do whatever.

--Edmiao 10:21, 4 September 2008 (MST)harder, but i will check with the lil lady
--Dieter the Bold 11:41, 4 September 2008 (MST) Would definitely be up for a Saturday switch

GABE: I'm okay for a switch, I think. I'd perfer we start around 2 then if possible or around that time.

--Edmiao 17:09, 4 September 2008 (MST)i can do saturday, but must start at regular time. 2pm is a no go

--Matts 17:38, 4 September 2008 (MST)Defining a Somewhere Else is now necessary then. Any volunteers?

--Gdaze 14:36, 5 September 2008 (MST) I think my place will be open to the masses, although it is small. But never the less the offer stands.

--Edmiao 16:27, 5 September 2008 (MST)i cannot offer my place. so are we on for saturday 9/13 at 6pm?

--Matts 16:12, 5 September 2008 (MST)Saturday at Gabe's, 6pm it is!

Friday 10/31 or Saturday 11/1

BEN: as far as halloween goes, and as long as we've opened the can of worms that is switching sessions from friday to saturday or vice versa, the 31st of october may be an ideal candidate for saturday, as opposed to friday, gaming. Either way, I still think people should come dressed as their characters.

--Edmiao 14:24, 8 September 2008 (MST) likely will be gone if Friday 10/31, might be able to make Saturday.

Ranting and raving or other random comments

--Edmiao 08:33, 8 September 2008 (MST) Hey Jason, anything we can do about that spambot with a rotating IP that is targeting our Talk:Mainpage? can we just shut down the Talk:Mainpage?

--Gameadmin 10:28, 8 September 2008 (MST)It is probably multiple spambots. Our best bet would be to disallow anonymous posting, but lots of us often do it. I will see if there is something I can come up with. This weekend was ridiculous. I must have blocked 6 ips.

--Edmiao 08:47, 9 September 2008 (MST) it's got to be one spambot, because it is all recent and all refers to various loans. can you block the word "loan" or block any post with say more than one or two outside links?

JASON: The ips come from too many disparate subnets to be the same bot. Those ips span 4 or 5 different providers. Most likely what happened is somehow we ended up on some list somewhere that lots of spammers use. I cant block anything in either of those fashions. The only way to stop it is to disallow anonymous posts. I will research and see if there is something I dont know about, however.

--Edmiao guess they are only hitting our mainpage:talk. probably more trouble to make everyone log in than it is to keep deleting the spams at this point? although if it keeps up at 4 times a day it could get irritating. wonder how they found us?

--Matts 18:15, 9 September 2008 (MST)this might be why...

Other RPG or Non-RPG gaming Events

Monthly Board Gaming Day

Halloween

--Dieter the Bold 11:46, 4 September 2008 (MST) Alright lads. We're gamers, so we're lazy by definition. I am lazier than most. But Halloween is a holiday I always feel bad about for not coming up with an awesome costume. I hereby forward the motion that we make that session a costumed session. Two months to come up with something awesome and wear it to the session. Bonus points to be awarded for those who come as their characters.

--Gdaze 11:00, 5 September 2008 (MST) I'm pretty sure I will be busy on said day. If I'm not, I will come in costume... but one it is over 2 months away so I have no idea, and two, yeah, typically I got out on that holiday.

Other Games

GABE: Dieter... CoV, feel free to play anytime, we get on about every other night, still trying to meet up with the other Matt in-game.

--Dieter the Bold 11:46, 4 September 2008 (MST) We just got some Tubes hooked up to our condo, but we lack a modem. And I also don't have my computer moved over yet. Once all of these things come together in a glorious symphony, I will indeed to spreading tyranny and villainy with you again.

Weekly Magic Whining/Complaining/Smack Talking

--Edmiao 10:27, 6 September 2008 (MST) Magic question. I play Zap: "deal one damage to creature. draw a card." the creature is sacrificed to a different effect. when zap resolves there is no creature to damage. do i get to draw a card?

--Edmiao 15:12, 6 September 2008 (MST) I think the Woolly Thoctar should be vice president (scroll to bottom of link and read Woolly Thoctar)

JASON: I would say yes, you get to draw a card. That effect happens when you play the spell, not when the spell resolves.

--Edmiao 12:28, 7 September 2008 (MST) I think both the damage and the draw a card occur when the spell resolves. they are listed as separate lines on the card text see zap. Likewise, what if i play rewind targeting lighting bolt, then someone else plays counterspell targeting the same lightning bolt before rewind goes off. do i get to untap the four lands?

--Edmiao 13:39, 7 September 2008 (MST) up, found the rule:

413.2a If the spell or ability specifies targets, it checks whether the targets are still legal. A target that’s moved out of the zone it was in when it was targeted is illegal. Other changes to the game state may cause a target to no longer be legal; for example, its characteristics may have changed or an effect may have changed the text of the spell. If the source of an ability has left the zone it was in, its last known information is used during this process. The spell or ability is countered if all its targets, for every instance of the word “target,” are now illegal. If the spell or ability is not countered, it will resolve normally, affecting only the targets that are still legal. If a target is illegal, the spell or ability can’t perform any actions on it or make the target perform any actions.
Example: Aura Blast is a white instant that reads, “Destroy target enchantment. Draw a card.” If the enchantment isn’t a legal target during Aura Blast’s resolution (say, if it has gained protection from white or left play), then Aura Blast is countered. Its controller doesn’t draw a card.
Example: Plague Spores reads, “Destroy target nonblack creature and target land. They can’t be regenerated.” Suppose the same animated land is chosen both as the nonblack creature and as the land, and the color of the creature land is changed to black before Plague Spores resolves. Plagues Spores isn’t countered because the black creature land is still a legal target for the “target land” part of the spell.

for our replicate question:

502.52a Replicate is a keyword that represents two abilities. The first is a static ability that functions while the spell is on the stack. The second is a triggered ability that functions while the spell is on the stack. “Replicate [cost]” means “As an additional cost to play this spell, you may pay [cost] any number of times” and “When you play this spell, if a replicate cost was paid for it, copy it for each time its replicate cost was paid. If the spell has any targets, you may choose new targets for any number of the copies.” Paying a spell’s replicate cost follows the rules for paying additional costs in rules 409.1b and 409.1f–h.

409.1f The player determines the total cost of the spell or ability. Usually this is just the mana cost (for spells) or activation cost (for abilities). Some cards list additional or alternative costs in their text. Some effects may increase or reduce the cost to pay, or may provide other alternative costs. Costs may include paying mana, tapping permanents, sacrificing permanents, discarding cards, and so on. The total cost is the mana cost, activation cost, or alternative cost (as determined in rule 409.1b), plus all additional costs and cost increases, and minus all cost reductions. If the mana component of the total cost is reduced to nothing by cost reduction effects, it is considered to be {0}. It can’t be reduced to less than {0}. Once the total cost is determined, it becomes “locked in.” If effects would change the total cost after this time, they have no effect.

203.3. The converted mana cost of an object is a number equal to the total amount of mana in its mana cost, regardless of color. Some effects ask a player to pay mana equal to an object’s converted mana cost; this cost may be paid with any combination of colored and/or colorless mana, regardless of the colors in the object’s mana cost.

Next step in Super Heroes

What's the role of super hero? Is it to protect the innocent? Punish the guilty? Keep a captured villain in a closet and occasionally throw him some Sun Chips?

The Guardians are thinking long and hard about this moral conundrum...

GABE: That was super heroes at their bestest. How about what the heck do we do with all these people we keep beating up??? No place can hold them! I mean Viho only has so many closets.

Next step in Of Amor, Armor, and Alchemy

--Edmiao 10:28, 6 September 2008 (MST) so, the way i see it, all the blood elf pirates abandoned ship, leaving us on the ship. dragon likes to eat blood elves. let dragon eat blood elves, we keep ship.
