Revision as of 10:36, 20 March 2009
This page is for discussion of stuff related to the game coming up this week, no matter when that actually is. For instance, we can all assume Nate isnt coming for some lame reason and that Ed is sick of pizza and is bringing teriyaki or some other crap. They can post something here if that happens to be untrue.

Attendance and Food Preference
GABE: Whats on our plate this week?
BEN: Not sure. If we're doing supers, it'll be Matt, me...and Ed after 10. If we're doing OAAAA, it'll be Matt, me, and dieter...and Ed after 10pm. Either way, we're only at Quorum after 10, although I'm happy to do some OAAAA-ing with two players, I suppose. I'm good with either option.
GABE: Wow, right, I forgot I had plans, boy is my face red.
--Matts 12:16, 16 March 2009 (MST)Wow, we could do supers and finally get some quality time alone! I'll bring the candles, ben, you bring the wine... Elemental battles the high-concept villian Psychopomp in a wide-ranging exploration of the modern psyche through expository combat!
--Matts 12:59, 16 March 2009 (MST)You can translate the above as: "We can play OAAA if it means we get quorum"
ED: Sorry, plans altered. I will be on time, could even be early at 5pm or so. In for pizza again so long as it's not ridiculously expensive, what's the price of MAD za? not coming via pudge, i'm giving a talk at amgen downtown. ...forgot to pay you last time ben!!! iou $8. i think everyone else forgot as well.
Deiter, tape that shit and come be a nerd with your rpg buddies!
Matts -- Ok, lets do supers then.
GABE: Crap I'm gonna miss the big fight!
--Dieter the Bold 17:49, 16 March 2009 (MST) Sorry all, but I'm not taping the finale of the best show on TV in the last 10 years (humble opinion). I've taped it every other time, except once or twice, but not for the very last chance to see the Galactica.
GABE: Matt... I forgot your stuff... again... maybe I can just drop it off this weekend sometime? Anyway, I will be there for 6 o'clock magic, yayz.
Ranting and raving or other random comments
--Gdaze 13:28, 13 March 2009 (MST) Also it'd be really nice if some of you could let me know what one shots look fun, or you'd like to play. Thanks! And if none, then say that too haha!
Edmiao Hey Dieter, i just watched the "last frakkin special" for bsg and discovered that Cylon bitch #3 is played by Lucy Lawless of Xena fame. funny, i never noticed with the blonde hair, and she's a bit older now. also never watched much zena, i suppose.
--Gdaze-- That pretty sweet.
That aside, would anyone be down for playing some Runebound this Sat. or Sun.? Dieter, interested? It is basically like Tailsman, and usually takes around 4-6 hours to play.
209.124.189.39 cheryl loves runebound. we have lots of expansions as well. but we've been pretty busy lately and may need a weekend with less activity, i think. but totally interested for some other time in the future.
--Dieter the Bold 13:38, 17 March 2009 (MST) Sunday would have to be in the evening, and I might require a ride home (buses). Saturday might work. I don't currently have plans, but I might have a family requirement. And yeah, Ed, I didn't realize it was Lucy Lawless the first time she appeared either (Season 2). She's very much slimmed down, and the blonde hair from Xena
--Gdaze-- Well sounds like Ed and Cheryl might be down for playing, so much-o cool, but not this weekend eh? That said Dieter keep me in the loop next time you guys board game it up, I'd be very down for playing. Anyway else down for Runebound can always play as well, it is a longer game, think Tailsman (actually it is often called compared to Tailsman, and on good terms).
The other group I game with is having some personal issues so their aviability has dropped, thus why I didn't move forward with WLD.
JASON: We will likely play some board games this Saturday. I had Runebound for a while, and yeah its a lot like Talisman. I dont think I could stand to play a game as pointless as that for 4-6 hours. If I am investing that amount of time into a game it better be more than roll, move, draw card, fight monster, collect treasure. If you want to play some board games with us Saturday, Dieter will probably be there and who knows, he might bring his peeps.
--Gdaze-- You know Jason, you could just say "I don't really want to play that game." Haha! Sweet, are you still in the same location? I heard you guys have been playing Carcassonne a lot which is like one of my favorite games. So you guys are for sure doing something this Saturday? Noelle needs me to be busy so I don't distract her while she sews.
JASON: No, I couldnt say that. It would destroy my soul. We only played Carcassonne once, and it was last week. I felt worn down with too many expansions, it just took too long. But, I do like the game. As of right now I think we are 90% for a Saturday game, I dont know if Dieter is coming, though. The game we play most is Bootleggers, but there are a million games we can play. And yes, I still live in the same place. Keep me informed if you want to play.
--Gdaze-- Man you still even have a soul? Lucky~ Hmm, the only expansions I usually play with are river (and not all the time for that), builders, catherdrals, inns and whatever... like the more basic ones. Never played hunters or the dragon.
Ed, do you have any of the board expansions for Rune Bound, or just the decks? I'm wondering if the Sands one is any good, as its suppose to like make the game more story like.
--Dieter the Bold 12:17, 18 March 2009 (MST) Yeah, all the expansions did run things longer than people thought. I think Trogdor caused the most consternation, so we could just leave that one out and play with the 'Builders and Traders' expansion. 'The Count' doesn't actually add any tiles to play. And Gabe, if you can get yourself free for Runequest on a Saturday and spin it as "not-Talisman", there's a chance you could get Tom and Brennan to jump in as well. I'll talk with them to see if they're down for anything this weekend.
--Gdaze-- If I spin it as "not-Tailsman" though, I'm sure they will be disappointed in the game, because it is very Tailsman. Remember the game takes from around 4-6 hours, it is meant for people who like Tailsman like games. However I am thinking of adding some custom rules that make things go a bit faster (loose less gold for dying, healing in towns is cheaper). Unlike Tailsman, the ONLY way to get items most of the time is by defeating challanges and getting gold, then going to a city space. But as noted, Ed and Cheryl like the game, and four players is just about right.

Edmiao cheryl and I are gonna see Watchmen at imax this second sunday. all invited.
Weekly Magic Whining/Complaining/Smack Talking
GABE: So now magic will be naming themselves like sports games, great, and rotate core sets every years. But besides that, why do I keep seeing these rumors there will be no more mana burn, anyone know if thats true?
I dunno, as I don't play any of the formats, I think it is pretty cool that they are getting back their their fantasy roots with the main sets. Silence is an insane card.
Next step in Super Heroes
ED: what were we doing? i forget.
GABE: Your rival is in the stock market with a huge suit of powered armor that has more guns then an NRA BBQ.
Edmiao right! can we take that on without Gabe, Noel and Deiter. ie with just Ben and I? actually, i think the last big fight we did, taking on the doping compound, was just ben and I and that went swimmingly and was a lot of fun.
--Matts 11:36, 17 March 2009 (MST) I've got a bunch of notes on how to scale the encounter, so we are on for sure! Hope y'all are ready!
--Matts 11:18, 18 March 2009 (MST)Also, just to note, Elemental had gone mysteriously missing early in the day, and reports that Indian Point nuclear reactor had been attacked were just starting to circulate. Then Emir opened the stock market with threats of violence.
--Gdaze-- Too bad for him we just arrived with a stimulus package... of pain.

Plans to save Danny-Girl from the dragon
These are the ones i remember.....
Fight the dragon, kill it
Lyra told us where to find the freezing Tears of _____ so we can put out the dragon's breath, right before she extinguished the eternal forge flame in our temple (bitch) by sucking its soul out like a vampire. She will help us fight the dragon. In return we agreed to let her strike the killing blow IF we successfully obtain the Tears. Other allies could also be enlisted in the fight.
Swindle all around
Talk to Grundbad, get him to fight the dragon and kill it. Also, talk to Oryxis, pledge to deliver the ruby shield in return he frees Danny-girl. Dragon dies: Danny free. Grundbad dies, danny free. Win - Win.
Deal with the dragon
Give the dragon something he wants more than Danny. Say the Ruby shield or freeing Iximion.
Dragon vs Dragon
Free Iximion, tell him Oryxis is getting up in his magic shit and doens't he want to kick the shit out of Oryxix for learning magic?
ED: Aefra is buying you all a flying carpet. should have done it last time before she lost all that cashola! she figures Aeten will carry it around for us. what a chum.
GABE: OMG I know right? Just call him a knight or student and the guy will do anything.
Aetan Finn I will only carry this carpet if it is strong enough to carry me and the rest of the auspice-bound without any diminished efficacy. (Aetan's pretty heavy)
Aefra: it can hold you big boy, if you can hold it! (str 35 magic carpet has a lift of 3200kg which means it can fly with no penalty with 768kg on board, full speed of 53 mph. with up to 1568kg on board it can fly at 44 mph)
BEN: probably worth doing the math for how much the PCs weigh: Aetan without any of his gear is probably close to 200kg. 35 should be enough for all of you, I agree, but if tithe returns it'll be a close call...
--Dieter the Bold 12:10, 17 March 2009 (MST) You can certainly drop a lot of those weights down. 1kg = 2.2lbs. And I can assure you that Galen is not 310lbs!! I'd be shocked if Fantus was as well. And 220 seems a little high for Aefra.
Edmiao So, say with gear: Aeten 250kg, Fantus 90kg, Aefra 60kg, Galen 90kg = 490kg; no problem full speed ahead cap'n. plus Tithe 200kg = 690kg will not slow the thing down. these weights are a guestimate with armor and items
GABE: Also are we sure we want to save her if she is just gonna become the flame?
BEN: I'm going to have to ask y'all to take a step back for a second. a.) I don't remember actually saying a priestess sacrificed herself to start the flame...if i did, that still doesn't necessarily mean that such an act is absolutely necessary to rekindle it. Research of some sort would probably be warranted before assuming the irrefutable truth of such a thing, even in a largely stereotyped fantasy world such as this one. b.) Oryxys was going to have you guys free Ixymion...assuming that Ixymion will be easily convinced to fight Oryxys upon being freed is a very big jump, particularly since it relies on human motivations, and I've very clearly stated in the section on dragons that trying to assign human motivations to dragons is rarely accurate. c.) As a spoiler, Grundbad is not just going to jump at the opportunity to kill a dragon. They are not a particularly stealthy kind of creature, and the thought must surely have occurred to him, especially given that Oryxys is particularly fond of blood elves and ORCS. That doesn't mean you couldn't convince him, it will just take more than "hey, don't you want to fight this guy?".
--Brandon 20:39, 17 March 2009 (MST) Can someone put up some more detail about how Lyra put out the flame? That pisses me off from afar! Also, make sure you listen to Ben. He clearly said that you have to set Daenerys - along with twenty kittens - on fire in order to rekindle the flame. Start gathering kittens!
GABE:Well on the first point I'm 98% sure thats how the flame was lit, my character was very interested in that. She used some tears, the tears of whatever that we are going to go get right now... Not sure why we didn't just try to beat her up and take them, but whatever.
ED: Ben said something about the flame having a soul. Lyra is a vampire of sorts who sucks the souls of those she kills. she sucked the flames soul as she put it out with the tears of whatever. and then Galen and Fantus pretty much said, meh, fairs fair, i guess we asked you to do it so no matter that it didn't need to be done anymore. Aefra wasn't taking that shit and called the guards.
GABE: Well actually Fantus was thinking that if we did fight her right there and then, Fantus would be doing all the fighting. While he is pretty good in a fight, he would be just dodging most of the time. Since he was with an illunist, and I'm sure she has huge saves against them, and a healer, who she could take out... And if we fell there, then what? Nobody would save our fair blacksmith. (Meta-Game: Well yes our alts would haha!)
--Matts 13:22, 18 March 2009 (MST)I think it's pretty obvious what we need to re-start the flame, and that's Salazar's pet! NAAATE!
BEN: that's...hmmm, I didn't think of that. That's a really good idea, actually. Oh, I'd also like to add: along with good insight in the last session, the bonus XP was due to Aefra's exceptionally commendable moral decision, to stay loyal to Grendel despite no perceived benefit. I tried ot make it as easy as possible to cast off from that, and I was very pleasantly surprised when Aefra did the heroic thing and said "FU, crotchety old bigot! BFFs 4 life!" So, a tip o' the XP hat to Aefra this past session.
Edmiao ha, groovey. seemed like the only choice she could make, actually, she's very loyal.
Yeah, gabe, they would have gotten their asses kicked by Lyra, but again, had to play the character. Calling in the guards seemed like the next best option to fight her without getting our asses kicked. it is much more interesting with her still at large, though. It occurs to me that the original plan was to have the flame put out to retrieve Danny-girl before administering the cure anyway, so folks must not have been too concerned about putting the flame out.....?
I like the Salazar's pet idea. foom!
GABE: Calling guards is a good idea, it makes it so we look good. And yeah, lets use the pet, bonus points Aten!
--Dieter the Bold 12:42, 19 March 2009 (MST) Nice idea, Aeten. And I vote we cut ties w/ Lyra. Not because Galen's super-pissed about the forge, but because I'm not sure we want to get involved with a very mercenary slayer who goes after the souls (XP) of powerful beings/things. I just don't think she's good peoples.
Edmiao If we cut ties with her, then we owe her some LOOTZ. what was the deal we made?
GABE: Um, she is no worse then me, and she sticks to her word, to the T. If we don't do it, we can't get the tears. Tears are very needed, with them I could perhaps make something to dose the dragon's breath. (Meta-game, we are still most likely going to loose some characters, but what a fight, with a dragon! Speaking entirly outta game, I wanna fight a dragon.)
Edmiao Metagame: haven't we wanted to fight a dragon from the get go? So, i think those characters with pride should suck it up and we should stay with the deal with Lyra, we need as much help as possible. She'll help us fight the dragon, and if she dies, cest la vie.
