Revision as of 14:45, 9 April 2009
This page is for discussion of stuff related to the game coming up this week, no matter when that actually is. For instance, we can all assume Nate isnt coming for some lame reason and that Ed is sick of pizza and is bringing teriyaki or some other crap. They can post something here if that happens to be untrue.

MATT: Ok, let's get things nailed down here. Ed, are you gonna be late or has your wave function not yet collapsed? I propose the following cases:
* Ed is late, like 10pm -> Matt drinks with his coworkers, arrives late; Ben drafts at 1st pick, arrives late; Matt, Ed, and Ben meet at Ben's at 10pm at a to-be-determined level of sobriety. Magic or Supers or whatever ensues. * Ed forsees a regular arrival time, albeit drunk -> Matt, Ed, and Ben meet at Ben's at regular times. * Ed is mostly out -> we can it, every man for themselves * Ed is probably attending but is totally uncertain as to timeframe -> Everyone plans to meet at ben's at around 10pm.
Sound off bitches!

Elemental: (to police chief, who thanked them for their good work) That certainly isn't going to help Viho's colossal ego. (or something like that...)
CyberJesus: I'm so sick and tired of this bullshit Thomas Kinkaid police state!

GABE:
Alright, so I'm going to throw this out there, not to cause a shit storm or anything. I see that later this year one of the current games may stop or whatever... not sure. All have a lot going on, but if everyone is okay with it I'd like to run the next game. BUT, I'd like to run a game everyone would like to play... DIETER. I know Brandon dropped due to time restrictions.
I'm just asking this now not to generate excitment or anything like that, but I'd like to know what to work on next. As in what kinda game people will actually get into. I dunno, am I outta line for asking this? Let me know.
Also whatever game we end up playing next I'd like to not use the hero system. Again just kinda seeing what kind-a games people might wanna play after one of the current ones end. Like Sci-Fi, whatever. Or if people think that hey, maybe I don't even want two games at a time, say that too. I'm just saying this because our player base has dropped so.
BEN: that's fair. I'll be game for whatever, especially given that my attendance will be spotty at times...but overall I think I can make a fun and interesting character in most settings.
GABE: Yeah and again I'm just trying to have something set up for when that does happen, I'm quite enjoying both games.
--Dieter the Bold 11:23, 6 April 2009 (MST) I enjoy fantasy and scifi most. I wouldn't mind a horror campaign (modern or otherwise) either. Previous games I've really enjoyed have been the Iliadic campaign, Post-Apocalypse, the current Amor campaign, Cyberpunk and Warhammer. I'm not a huge fan of Supers (can be if it's played more straight) or Werewolf/Vampire (too much posing and posturing).
--Gdaze 12:18, 6 April 2009 (MST) Actually I really liked the PA game as well, I think my favorite part was when we were up against the anti-tech people the first time, then the 2nd attack on the super computer place. I've been reading up on Shadowrun, which is pretty cool.
Although I enjoy keeping track of gold and buying items I realize many don't. That said I liked the PA game because of the whole barter system. Thats why I thought the idea of a PA game set in a Dyshon Sphere super ship could be neat.
Matts - This is kind of out of left field, but I've been jonesing for some kind of swashbuckling Age of Sail game, like [Seventh Sea], with rapiers, muskets, cannons, and shit like that. Blame it on Empire Total War.
Edmiao I'm up for any game type. one note though, if the game world highly rewards scavenging and looting bodies, such as in a PA game, it's hard to resist. this has irked some in the past. one solution is to make all the stuff you find pretty much worthless. on that note, i read the best PA novel ever, called "the Road" by Cormac McCarthy, who also wrote "no country for old men", which turned into an excellent movie (i haven't read that book). "The Road" is actually a quick read, highly recommended
GABE: Dude Ed... I was just walking through the book store, JUST NOW, and saw that book... crazy man crazy!
Well the thing I like about PA, is that all loot can be good loot. And yes, looting is fun, and actually make sense in a PA game (although maybe put in some durability rules?).
Swashbuckling is cool, but how fantasy would ya want it Matt? We talking Pirates of the Carabu? Or more like real life stuff? I actually think being pirates, muskets and all that jazz could be pretty fun. I think if we did PA or Pirates I'd use the Warhammer Systems.
Matts - My chief criteria for a swashbuckling game, aside from swashes and buckles, would be a) cutlasses, rapiers, etc, b) muskets, c) boats, d) broadsides, e) tricorn hats. Magic or no magic, either way I'm down. Pirates of the Carribean is actually a pretty dope fantasy take on the Age of Sail, though I haven't seen the last movie and don't really plan to.
--Gdaze 13:34, 8 April 2009 (MST) I'm gonna totaly let this get bigger until Ed gets sick of it and makes it its own page. That looks like a pretty neat world Matt, and I love muskets, boats, and broadsides. In fact as you know I have a whole HOST of paper ships in many different makes.
I mean it would have looting so thats good. Biggest thing though is would others want to play, I see PA popping up a lot, although survival on a ship can be fun too. Alright I'll just ask now, PA or Swashbuckling?
Edmiao what about that escape from the dyson sphere? that could have some sci fi, some of the lawlessness of pirates and depending on the setting, could have a PA type feel to it. Even if the players had a well equipt ship, there could be lots of poor starving folk around as tech is degrading in the sphere.
Matts -- Whichever we ultimately do, a cohesive premise is key. Let's not make a mutant setting just to please everyone; history has proven that doesn't work at all. I can honestly get behind anything, but premise is something that compromise can make ambiguous, and if it's ambiguous, you wind up with each player in a different direction.
GABE: Thanks for the talks on the pages I put up. And Matt, we all know you can get behind anything too bad we like you in front.
If we did the Dyson Spehre thing, it would in all likelyhood be PA like.
I think Ben made a really good point about the pirate game, is that it would diffently be silly at times, and quite bloody at others... but none the less silly. Since we NEED DIETER as a player, I'd like to hear from you DIETER.

ED: anyone use iGoolge? mtg backdrop
--Gdaze 11:31, 30 March 2009 (MST) +5 nerd points. Although that is cool.
--Gdaze-- So the match ups up were pretty intense last night, several games with both Brandon and I at under 10 life. That said I think I can now say that my warrior deck is fairly strong in one on one games. (Brandon, how did warriors and elementals fair again?)
--Brandon 11:29, 6 April 2009 (MST) Yes, 'twas good. Warriors and Elementals were a good matchup. If I remember correctly, it was either 1-1 or 2-1 (in elementals' favor).
--Brandon 11:29, 6 April 2009 (MST) I apologize in advance to everyone - except Ed - for posting this:
"Q: In an EDH game, one player has both Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir as well as Eye of the Storm. Is that as broken as we think it is?
A: Pretty much. Copies from Eye of the Storm are played during the resolution of the Eye's triggered ability. That's a time when a sorcery normally can't be played, so Teferi stops everybody else at the table from getting copies out of the Eye.
It's also important to remember that the instant or sorcery that triggers Eye of the Storm gets removed from the game, so it never resolves. A copy of it can be created, but that does no good if it can't be played.
I'm definitely writing that combo down; I haven't been banned from my local EDH group, so my deck obviously isn't broken enough."
--Gdaze 12:18, 6 April 2009 (MST) I move that the Eye of the Storm's picture be changed to the 3rd ed. Terror picture. http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?id=1182
Brandon, do you remember that question we had that came up in play? Like we both had triggered abilities?
--Brandon 14:21, 6 April 2009 (MST) Here is the scenario in question:
I attack with a Spitebellows, Gabe blocks with a Changeling Berserker. Damage resolves, and both go to the graveyard. Since both leave play, there are two relevant triggers: the "leaves play" trigger where the Spitebellows deals 6 damage and the "leaves play" trigger where the championed card "underneath" the Berserker comes back into play. The operative question is whether or not I can target the championed creature with the Spitebellows' triggered ability. The answer depends, I take it, on the order that the triggered abilities resolve. So, the fundamental question is who gets to pick the order in which the triggered abilities go onto the stack. Thoughts?
--Gdaze-- Right thats it... I was going to add that I thought it was who ever had the priority gets to choose what triggers... but unsure on that, also who even has that?
User:Matts:Matts -- It would go to whoever has priority, which unless there's something wacky, would be the person whose turn it is. My guess would be that gabe could have his leaves play go off after your spitebellows if he so chose.
--Brandon 10:45, 8 April 2009 (MST) That's sort of what I thought, though since it was my turn (I was the one attacking), wouldn't I be the one with priority, so I could choose to have Gabe's leave play trigger before my Spitebellows? (btw, in this instance 'spitebellows' is not a euphemism for my cock.)
--Brandon 11:25, 8 April 2009 (MST) I'm thinking that maybe I should take down the Teferi/Eye of the Storm combo before Ed sees it. Thoughts?
BEN: we only have one teferi, I will just make sure it disappears. I have two royal assassins, so it shouldn't be too hard. Also, I thought the euphemism for your cock was "kithkin daggerdare"?
BRANDON: I think that you're getting it confused with the other one, "giant hugemotherfuckingcockdare," which I'll use to tap Teferi (handsome fellow that he is) so that your assassins can make short work of him.
BEN "Giant hugemotherfuckingcockdare": BBBBBBB: 10/10 1: Tap target card with an illustration of a hot chick/dude on it. 3: Tap target card with an illustratoin of an ugly chick/dude on it. 5: tap target card with with an illustration of a humanoid on it. 7: Tap target card with an animal or monster on it. 9: Tap target card that features only landscapes. 'this is for fighting, this is for fun'
Edmiao too late! but i think Teferi is lost in another deck.
--Brandon 14:09, 8 April 2009 (MST) Bravo, Ben. The casting cost is a very nice touch. And, Ed, ummmm, yeah. Teferi is totally lost in another deck, like forever.
Edmiao I know!! damn!!! maybe ben will help me find him?
--Gdaze-- How the heck did I get this Teferi in my deck...
--Brandon 14:50, 8 April 2009 (MST) Well, I thought that Teferi had a CLEAR place in your RG Warriors deck. You should totally keep it in there, like forever.
Edmiao I will see you all in HECK
--Gdaze-- Yes... it does... I can see the combo clearly now!

Things that are going on:
the juice and his son are at large, not seen since they helped with the battle vs Emir
Emir abu kaliq is in prison, captured for putting a virus into wall street, taking stock brokers hostage, demanding ransom and killing one of them.
Oppenheimer, the radioactive power source corpse, is in an oceanic trench sealed in a concrete box. the feds want him back and they know we took him. we have been avoiding the feds.
The government was maybe using oppenheimer to make some weapon, they seem to need "quicksilver" ie silver serpent, to make this weapon.
The Artifecier (sp?) thinks the old ones are waking up. who is the artificer? who are the old ones?
The Explorators (SP???) work for the above named client and have brought back 3 ancient warriors, who are now at large.
Super Roids Factory Super roids factory was taken down, head scientist killed, links were found to Emir abu kaliq. got warrant for his office and found more incriminating evidence. this issue resolved..?

Plans to save Danny-Girl from the dragon
These are the ones i remember.....
Fight the dragon, kill it
Lyra told us where to find the freezing Tears of _____ so we can put out the dragon's breath, right before she extinguished the eternal forge flame in our temple (bitch) by sucking its soul out like a vampire. She will help us fight the dragon. In return we agreed to let her strike the killing blow IF we successfully obtain the Tears. Other allies could also be enlisted in the fight.
Swindle all around
Talk to Grundbad, get him to fight the dragon and kill it. Also, talk to Oryxis, pledge to deliver the ruby shield in return he frees Danny-girl. Dragon dies: Danny free. Grundbad dies, danny free. Win - Win.
Deal with the dragon
Give the dragon something he wants more than Danny. Say the Ruby shield or freeing Iximion.
Dragon vs Dragon
Free Iximion, tell him Oryxis is getting up in his magic shit and doens't he want to kick the shit out of Oryxix for learning magic?
BEN: that's...hmmm, I didn't think of that. That's a really good idea, actually. Oh, I'd also like to add: along with good insight in the last session, the bonus XP was due to Aefra's exceptionally commendable moral decision, to stay loyal to Grendel despite no perceived benefit. I tried ot make it as easy as possible to cast off from that, and I was very pleasantly surprised when Aefra did the heroic thing and said "FU, crotchety old bigot! BFFs 4 life!" So, a tip o' the XP hat to Aefra this past session.
Edmiao ha, groovey. seemed like the only choice she could make, actually, she's very loyal.
Yeah, gabe, they would have gotten their asses kicked by Lyra, but again, had to play the character. Calling in the guards seemed like the next best option to fight her without getting our asses kicked. it is much more interesting with her still at large, though. It occurs to me that the original plan was to have the flame put out to retrieve Danny-girl before administering the cure anyway, so folks must not have been too concerned about putting the flame out.....?
I like the Salazar's pet idea. foom!
GABE: Calling guards is a good idea, it makes it so we look good. And yeah, lets use the pet, bonus points Aten!
--Dieter the Bold 12:42, 19 March 2009 (MST) Nice idea, Aeten. And I vote we cut ties w/ Lyra. Not because Galen's super-pissed about the forge, but because I'm not sure we want to get involved with a very mercenary slayer who goes after the souls (XP) of powerful beings/things. I just don't think she's good peoples.
Edmiao If we cut ties with her, then we owe her some LOOTZ. what was the deal we made?
GABE: Um, she is no worse then me, and she sticks to her word, to the T. If we don't do it, we can't get the tears. Tears are very needed, with them I could perhaps make something to dose the dragon's breath. (Meta-game, we are still most likely going to loose some characters, but what a fight, with a dragon! Speaking entirly outta game, I wanna fight a dragon.)
Edmiao Metagame: haven't we wanted to fight a dragon from the get go? So, i think those characters with pride should suck it up and we should stay with the deal with Lyra, we need as much help as possible. She'll help us fight the dragon, and if she dies, cest la vie.
