Revision as of 19:24, 4 March 2010
This page is for discussion of stuff related to the game coming up this week, no matter when that actually is. For instance, we can all assume Nate isnt coming for some lame reason and that Ed is sick of pizza and is bringing teriyaki or some other crap. They can post something here if that happens to be untrue.

Attendance and Food Preference
--Dieter the Bold 11:23, 2 March 2010 (MST) UPDATE Consistent boardgaming night is now open at my place, Saturdays at 7pm. Minor deviation this Saturday (3/6) when gaming is at noon, due to the Rat City Rollergirls Bout #2 at Key Arena taking up the evening slot. Anyone is welcome, but RSVP's appreciated so we can have the right games available. Arkham Horror is pretty consistent. Smaller games of Battlestar Galactica (we'll be trying out the Pegasus Expansion soon) and Pandemic are also likely. Other popular ones on tap except for Settlers. But if anyone wants to bring that with, very cool.
--Gdaze 16:41, 2 March 2010 (MST) What does bring that with mean? I would love to bring Small World, very aggersive type game. And I just messaged you about it, haha.
--Dieter the Bold 17:05, 2 March 2010 (MST) You have correctly guessed its meaning. We're happy to have other people bring games they're really into. We have an email list that we'd send to, just to make sure no one else absolutely hates the game. It's usually just myself, Charles & Deanna, but Dave's been showing up pretty consistently and Roj has made a few appearances. We've only been doing it for several weekends, now.
--Gdaze 14:35, 3 March 2010 (MST) I'll totally see if I can make it this weekend. I have a few things going on and the other parties are not being very helpful with committing to certain days.
Ranting and Raving
--Dieter the Bold 18:43, 13 January 2010 (MST) I give you.....
The Future of Gaming!!
ED: MATT you are leaving us!! I hope to make the shindig but not sure with the baby and all. does anyone look at the wiki anymore?
JASON: Probably just Rumi and me... Or rarely people in our games. They arent as diligent as you folks. sigh
--Gdaze 10:52, 19 February 2010 (MST) You fuckers, I clearly check it!
--Matts I'm actually not leaving until my project is done, say 4 months from now. I look at the wiki from time to time but my nights these days are basically packing things or helping my wife recover from hyperventilating.
-BEN: I check it all the time (2-3 times daily), but I rarely have much to add: no use in posting that I am unavailable over and over. I just like to see what people are up to. The shindig is still on, though the date isn't set yet, and that'll probably be the first time since december that I'll be doing any gaming.
--Gdaze 15:35, 19 February 2010 (MST) Well said Ben. And Matt, will you maybe have more free time soon then?
Ben's Birthday Shindig - 3/27/2010
Well, it's that time of year again. Unfortunately, I'm on internal medicine, which means I take call every 4th night...and that means I can't give you a firm date for this event yet, though hopefully it will be in February, or at least early march. But I think I've figured out what I plan to do this year, a little something inspired by my old GM Matt Wilson at Grinnell and hopefully not too labor intensive to set up. I'm posting it here because there may be a little prep time involved for some of those that want to participate:
The premise: heroes from across many planes of existence have been summoned together for a mysterious purpose.
The Mechanic: Pick your favorite character that you have played...or even your favorite NPC from a game you have GMed or played in. Convert said character to Hero. Bring the character sheet to the game. Play that character. Sound good?
Feel free to comment here: if this sounds lame, there's plenty of time for me to brew up something else.
An update: 1.) This will probably happen in March: I'm on call this month, and busy on top of that, so I think it will make the most sense to postpone it. I don't think I will do it at my place, although that's not for certain: I'll probably ask dieter, Jason, or Ed to host.
2.) The second part of the deal: if you've GMed with our group, please give/send me the character sheets of any NPCs you'd like to have make an appearance, especially villains. Obviously you have to feel comfortable that I will represent said villains appropriately. Also, if there are NPCs from my games you'd like to RP with again (or battle), let me know.
In response to Gabe. You should be able to bring a guest, though I'll hold off on giving a firm yes just yet. The main factors are: how many of our 'regulars' will we have, is the person actually going to play, and will they feel comfortable gaming with our group. I feel like this one shot will be rife with "inside jokes" so it will probably have diminished value who hasn't gamed a bunch with us. Also, definitely send me requests with any NPCs from anyone's game, and I'll send out the asks once I've actually compiled the storyline.
BEN: I'd like to do this during one of the next 3 weekends, and if possible, I'd like to be able to have everyone (who wants to) attend. This next weekend matt is out of town. I would like to do a saturday, so that if I want to do dinner at my house in the aftermath, that's a possibility. So, that leaves March 6 or 13...or 20 or 27 if need be. If you guys could post your availabilities for those dates here, that would be greeeaaaattt....yeah.
BEN: date forthcoming shortly. As for point levels, Ed is right. You have the option of bringing whatever character you want, so make them to fit what they should be (or bring them "as is" if htey are hero system already). I assure you that having high numbers of points will not automatically make you "better".
Official Date: 3/27/10, saturday, high noon. Location forthcoming: may be at my place, or I may ask someone else to host...stay tuned.
BEN: yes, please send me your characters beforehand, and any NPCs you want me to use from games you have run (no promises as to which ones get in). As to jason's conflict...that's huge bummer, and here I was hoping that a date that far out would minimize conflicts. But c'est l'vie...and she is a bitch, no?

RUMI: I ♥ this idea. :D On a selfish note, I have family in town from 2.18 to 2.26 and J and I are out of town from 2.21 through 2.25.
--Gdaze 11:12, 4 January 2010 (MST) Sounds like a comic book, also sounds very fun. Let us know as far ahead of time as possible, though I realize that could be tough.
--Dieter the Bold 19:52, 4 January 2010 (MST) Love the idea. And I would also request that you somehow finally work out a PC getting killed by a Space Marine drop-pod. That would be awesome. Even if it was me.
BEN: I hear and obey.
JASON: Can I play Ben in this game? The only problem is how I can fit him into 400 points or less.
--Gdaze 15:06, 5 January 2010 (MST) Sweet, I may go back to my Rifts days.
Edmiao that sounds awesome. i hope to be able to attend.
Ed: I should be able to make it, during the day, but i don't think we are in any shape to host the party, normally yes, but Ella is a bit demanding. shame, cus we have a great place for it.
--Gdaze 16:39, 9 February 2010 (MST) I was going to say, guy with new-born baby, most likely not able to host. Can we bring a guest to the party if so inclinded?
ALSO. Can we request other villians from other player's games? And then maybe you could email them and say, hey is this cool if I use such and such?
--Gdaze 17:34, 9 February 2010 (MST) Oh I meant like a guest to the actual party like part of it! Oops nevermind, thought Sakura con was then but isn't. So I'm good.
Sweet, I've got some NPCs, I'll email you tonight, and if I can't find your email I'll text/call ya.
Edmiao got a date for us yet?
--Gdaze 11:09, 24 February 2010 (MST) Ben really likes to hide his updates in this thing.
Ed. Gaming is not for the weak of wiki reading. Me available for any of those, no particular preference.
--Gdaze 13:24, 1 March 2010 (MST) I should be free any of those days, but I do need advance notice. How many points we have to make our dudes?
JASON: I will rearrange my schedule to attend this event. I would call this a priority.
Edmiao i presume there will be both heroic level and superheroic level characters. it will be interesting and challenging to balance the two point level characters side by side, kinda like pitting the hulk against chuck norris. no way the hulk would survive more than one phase. but i guess in hero system even similar point characters can have vastly different combat potential anyway. speaking of the hulk, I read world war hulk, and loved Gabe's favorite line. "Hi Hulk, I'm Monet, I'm invincible." "oh yeah, go be invincible in conneticut" <hulk throws monet across a few states>
--Brandon 18:37, 1 March 2010 (MST) To the best of my knowledge, all of those dates work fine for me.
--Gdaze 10:48, 2 March 2010 (MST) Um, Ben if we want our dudes done for this let us know how many points we should use! Ah, that was World War Hulk X-Men? World Hulk is basically just a giant boxing match, but great fun to enjoy. And Hulk was a total PC there... hmmm how to defeat, oh right, just throw hella far away. Ah, lack of travel powers... But yus, let us know as soon as you can Ben.
I don't think we have to worry too much about power levels. As Ben said there will be a of jokes and stuff based around old games? So maybe this will be a bit silly (as all cross-overs usually are).
--Dieter the Bold 11:19, 2 March 2010 (MST) March 6th doesn't work for me (Board gaming followed by Rat City Rollergirls Bout #2) nor does March 13th (Emerald City Comic-Con; Stan "the Man" Lee, Felicia Day, Wil Wheaton, etc.). The 20th is wide open and the 27th is theoretically open. Also, my place is totally open (on the 20th or 27th).
--Gdaze 16:44, 2 March 2010 (MST) Yeah I wanted to amended what I said above. First of all, board gaming does not beat out a friend's party, boo. And I also will be going to Emerald City Comic Con on the 13th and 14th. Otherwise I SHOULD be free.
Edmiao I'll be there, looking forward to it.!
--Gdaze 16:57, 4 March 2010 (MST) Date locked in. Wow, any amount of points? Can't wait to see what Ed comes up with. I don't think I have any of my old characters, but I shall check. Ben, do you want to know who we are playing as? Should we send it to you? I'm 80% sure of who I'm gonna play.
JASON: I totally dropped the ball on this. Under normal circumstances I would reschedule anything to be at this party, but it turns out Charles and I have already paid like $150 to be at a con in Vancouver selling stuff that weekend. I suck. Please ridicule me at your leisure.
Kingmakers
Current XP as of 12/5 session: 3500
BEN: that was a good session today...lots of fun, even if my character nearly got killed again. nice emperor battle too.
--Gdaze 10:15, 7 December 2009 (MST) Funny you should say that, I was about to post the same! I really enjoyed the RPs, a good mix of serous play and down right goofy (although very effective...). I think my favorite part is when Ben Hans went and punched out the noble in a cafe, and Elf Hans started a food fight. Okay actually that whole thing was great. Showing up as the "bandit king" was great.
Of Amor, Armor, and Alchemy
Current OAAAA XP: 75 base + 370 XP; Followers: 18 XP (current as of 12/11/09)
Edmiao that correct? 17 xp for characters and 3 for followers?
--Gdaze 16:47, 14 December 2009 (MST) I thought we got a bonus 3 times?
--Dieter the Bold 12:26, 15 December 2009 (MST) Gabe is correct. We got +1 bonus XP each round of card play. XP corrected above.
Edmiao uh, you didn't chage it, so xp corrected above by me.
--Gdaze 16:13, 15 December 2009 (MST) Dieter is full of lies.
Edmiao that was a great session last time, btw. really enjoyed it. i thought the card thing worked quite nicely for that kind of round robbin storytelling. ever played "once upon a time"? its a round robin story telling game just like we did, but instead of regular cards each person has a hand full of cards with something printed on them that they should work into the story: "a king", or "a quest", or "a sword", "betrayal"....that kind of thing. might be another interesting way to do it. may be more constraining or may help with creativity.
BEN: saw it and was intrigued but was worried that it wasn't open ended enough. I'd like to try it some time, especially with "non-gamers" as a way to illustrate why gaming is fun for them that like it. I also enjoyed it and like the card mechanic for telling large chunks of story...I think the mechanic is most beneficial in the sense that it creates some arbitrary structure and it really promotes players working together because of the need to counter GM moves.
Edmiao totally. and that arbitrary structure is a good thing. it encourages both small tidbits that enrich the story with low cards and big sweeping develpments with high cards.
BEN: Another important piece of "world news" for Amora:
In the wake of Serafina's assassination, A mysterious warrior has begun "cracking skulls" and asking questions. This has happened in Csara, Eburon (by report of the Children of Light and Shadow) and Imadigo, mostly). Especially in Eburon, the warrior has been opposed by fairly potent opponents, including at least one mage, and come away victorious and unscathed.
Edmiao i don't remember who serafina is. lol
BEN: in the current generation, an unprecedented 3 witch queens exist: Arina, Serafina, and Jagha. They united (also unprecedented) and offered to each take 3 apprentices (ALSO unpre...you know the drill). Now, one has been assassinated, something that has happened to witch queens a number of times you could count on one hand. It's a big deal.
Edmiao oh, that Hans. now i remember. what happened to her apprentices? presumably one is hunting her killer
Matts Isn't she the one who had robot Hans for an apprentice?
BEN: that was Arina. You guys never met serafina.
Edmiao and now we never will. oh wait, its high fantasy, we probably will.
--Matts 11:21, 18 December 2009 (MST)You meant to say, "And now Hans never Hans. Oh wait, it's high Hans, we probably Hans."
Edmiao HAAAns HAAAns HAAAAns. you so funny.
--Gdaze 15:21, 18 December 2009 (MST) I gotta Hans it to you guys. And with that I wash my Hans of this conversation!
Edmiao we got questions we can ask about plot points in the game. Ed has 2, Gabe has 4, Dieter has 9. Things to ask:
1) where did that human girl born under the forge sign that the dwarves gave to Fantus come from? what is her history? Why does Aeifra look at her with eyes like a wolf?
2) who is the knight of thorns, what's his story? Why is he so crazy?
3) where did the fairies on caminus go? Do we care?
