Hassan is an 18 year old Arab, born in the Caliphite of Assur's capital city, Assur. He came from an upper middle class merchant family, whose tradition was shipping. He had 2 older brothers and was protected by his mother. When the Empire went to war with Araby, all of his brothers and his father answered the call and enlisted their ships in the Arabian navy.
Hassan, however, wasnt so quick to leave the home. Eventually, when it was clear he had to leave to help the cause, he instead joined the army. He travelled as an apothecary in the armies supply train. He worked dilligently after each battle to help the wounded.
During the last great battle he and many of the rest of the support of the army of Assur were captured and returned to Nuln as slaves. Part of the surrender settlement was that these slaves would be freed and allowed to return home. His older brothers were both recently killed in battle and his father has been dead for years, his mother and the family business would be his only reason to return. Sadly, during the war both his mother and sister went missing, and after losing their ships the family business was decimated. Hassan decided to stay.
Because of his healing skills he was able to apprentice himself to an apothecary in Nuln. They became fast friends, and Hassan learned the trade easily and well. Eventually, the worst happened. Alois, who was over 50, died. He had left the apothecary to Hassan, but the locals would not trust the auslander without Alois to 'keep him in line'. Eventually, he was forced out of business.
