This page is for discussion of stuff related to the game coming up this week, no matter when that actually is. For instance, we can all assume Nate isnt coming for some lame reason and that Ed is sick of pizza and is bringing teriyaki or some other crap. They can post something here if that happens to be untrue.

BEN: congratulations, Brandon. NATE! can you let me know if you will be gaming on 10/3? If you are, then we will have 3 players and we can proceed with a session. Otherwise, 10/3 will likely be cancelled.

Edmiao I will be here on 10/3 so game on biatch!

Attendance and Food Preference

KIM: I WISH I had pizza last night, *nom nom nom*. I was in Philly yesterday lusting after such godly greasy goodness from afar... won't be home until the week of Halloween, and then off to rape and pillage more villages. Count me OUT for pizza now through New Years, but when I get back, I SO have dibs on half of every pie, MWAHAHAHAA!

9/26/08

BEN: present, pizza. I think I'm going to throw the debate up, and we'll start when it's done, unless people are opposed to this. We will of course throw down with magic all the while: bonus points if you make a deck using the cards on the bored at work link during the debate.

Edmiao Present, no pizza. personally, i'm recording the debate and watching it later. if that whimp mccain doesn't back out altogether. i thought it was only Palin who was afraid to let the american people see how dumb she it. Anyone interested in a Nov 4th jubilation/wake party?

--Brandon 15:27, 24 September 2008 (MST) Present pizza. I'll be coming straight from campus with no car, and am totally down for debate watching/ridiculing.

--Matts 17:18, 24 September 2008 (MST)I can pick you up, Brandon. I also want to see the debates, or dance on John McCain's cowardice while spawining Homarids (or Camarids to be precise I suppose).

--Edmiao 17:28, 24 September 2008 (MST) perhaps we should just watch the debates and not play magic. i'm trying to picture 2 headed giant with the TV on in the background. if we are going to watch the debate (which may go on until 8pm btw) then i might invite cheryl, i think she may want to watch it. looks like it won't be cancelled after all.

--Dieter the Bold 18:20, 24 September 2008 (MST) If we're doing magic + debate, or just debate before gaming starts, I'll pass until gaming. Totally down with ya'll doing the debate, just let me know when gaming will be start and I'll be there. No pizza, this time.

BEN: it's scheduled for 90 minutes, I think. So Gaming should start at 7:30pm.

--Gdaze 20:02, 24 September 2008 (MST) Yeah, also going to pass if we aren't doing any magic. So I'll be there around 7:30 or 8. I already know the outcome.

Edmiao i don't think cheryl will come for the debate.

BEN: we don't have to debate it up...I can always watch it later if people would rather focus on magic

KIM: Debate it up! I'll be watching at my dad's place, should be interesting kickin' it bi-partisan with the old folks... PS: ya'll would be proud, every tog i shoot with wants to dress me up as Palin and put me in some sort of ridiculously compromising situation, it's just too bad I don't own a hunting vest or a suitable moose rifle...

Friday 10/31 or Saturday 11/1

--Dieter the Bold 11:46, 4 September 2008 (MST) Alright lads. We're gamers, so we're lazy by definition. I am lazier than most. But Halloween is a holiday I always feel bad about for not coming up with an awesome costume. I hereby forward the motion that we make that session a costumed session. Two months to come up with something awesome and wear it to the session. Bonus points to be awarded for those who come as their characters.

--Gdaze 11:00, 5 September 2008 (MST) I'm pretty sure I will be busy on said day. If I'm not, I will come in costume... but one it is over 2 months away so I have no idea, and two, yeah, typically I got out on that holiday.

BEN: as far as halloween goes, and as long as we've opened the can of worms that is switching sessions from friday to saturday or vice versa, the 31st of october may be an ideal candidate for saturday, as opposed to friday, gaming. Either way, I still think people should come dressed as their characters.

--Edmiao 14:24, 8 September 2008 (MST) Definitely will be gone if Friday 10/31, might be able to make Saturday 11/1 but won't be able to tell you until the day of.

Ranting and raving or other random comments

--Gdaze 10:54, 22 September 2008 (MST) Quick question for Matt who to whom else might know... I'm trying to see if I can run my 360 in Japan, but I'm a little worred about it getting fried. Anyway know like what will and wont' work there? Or any links to sites that explain it? I can't find nuttin'!

BEN: the socket voltage in Japan is 100 volts. in the US it is 110, I think. If you look on the power converter for the XBOX, it should say what voltages it accepts. The plug type looks like it is the same as the US, but if the XBOX can't run on 100 volts, you will need to get a step-up converter.

--Matts 11:25, 22 September 2008 (MST)I am certain that at most you'll need a new power brick, but I imagine not. They sell xboxes in japan, and the reason that the big brick comes with your 360 is so that they don't have to manufacture different machines for different voltages.

My power brick for my devkit here at work takes between 100 and 127 volts. So I think you'll be fine.

Most consumer electronics are too expensive to manufacture with different processes, so they externalize the transformer. Once you've done that, making it large enough to accept several incoming voltages is pretty cheap. So I think a PS3, a 360, and probably recent dvd players or tvs would all work fine in Japan.

JASON: I think the external power brick will be necessary. I know a laptop is not an XBox, but they are modern electronics, and when Kurt went to Europe I had to purchase a new set of plugs for his macbook. They made an international traveler version that had a customizable plug for any country with instructions.

--Gdaze 12:50, 22 September 2008 (MST) Thanks all, I have little to no exp plugging stuff in over seas... wait a second... ahem.

I'll take a look at the box when I get home then. And if I do get this job in Japan I'm also gonna need a labtop. I'm also asking about this because someone I know Wii was fryed when they tried to use a conventer in Italy. So yeah... don't wanna be loosing my systems.

--Matts 13:10, 22 September 2008 (MST)I think the safe rule is that you shouldn't use upconverters with electronics like the Wii or the Xbox. Instead, look for a power cord + brick sold in that country. Like for your Wii, buy a new grey power brick - the hardware itself takes probably like 12volt DC regardless of the country you're in.

--Gdaze-- Oh okay, so unlike your mom who takes all forms of stiff cords. And thanks!

Other RPG or Non-RPG or Monthly Board Gaming Day gaming Events

JASON: Anybody up for a game of Battletech sometime in the next few weeks? I will need to try it out to see how feasible this mechwarrior thing is. Its only been about 18 years since I have played it!

--Dieter the Bold 17:41, 16 September 2008 (MST) Definitely down. I have a few boxes and books I can bring if necessary.

Weekly Magic Whining/Complaining/Smack Talking

Shards of Alara

Next step in Super Heroes

Edmiao I wonder if the suveilance cameras caught cortez and the battle on tape, could be good PR sort of the Guardians most wanted list.

--Gdaze 02:29, 21 September 2008 (MST) Yeah... except then we went to the park and fought the mutant kid... had to knock out a bunch of teens with Ash Berry's spores... and um... he got away...

--Brandon 12:37, 21 September 2008 (MST) I just want to say that that last battle had a lot of great moments. Silver Snake being thrown into the air and then transforming and swinging back down in mid air; Ashbury flying above the crowd of teenagers and releasing pollen everywhere; Elemental taunting Zeus, and then not budging when the counterattack came; Brimstone walking with Silver Snake as armor, dragging a line of fire through the air, and then teleporting inside of Zeus's shield. Good times, all.

Next step in Of Amor, Armor, and Alchemy

--Edmiao 10:28, 6 September 2008 (MST) so, the way i see it, all the blood elf pirates abandoned ship, leaving us on the ship. dragon likes to eat blood elves. let dragon eat blood elves, we keep ship.

GABE: Agreed.

Also... about the dragon, here are some deals I thought of.

What about if we offer him the Ruby Shield Ignus? You know, the one thing that can stop his breath, and we give it to him? Also another deal we could make, since he looks phat lootz, is find out who is shipping what and from time to time give him that info? I know its awhile till we play but just some things I thought up.

BEN: in response to Ed's concern above I will say this: there won't be a whole lot of "meeting" going on during this first encounter with the dragon. Very likely none, barring spectacular miracles and/or cleverness.
Allow me to try to elaborate (on a metagame level, since none of the PCs likely have much dragon knowledge): Dragons are both brutal animalistic predators and wise and cunning sentient beings. When they are in the "predator" mode, they are almost exclusively instinct-driven monsters, attacking with total ferocity. In short, this is not a mode in which it would be easy to bargain with or even communicate with a dragon. Surviving such an attack is a rare and great feat in itself.
Also, as I alluded to before, the next session will start, at the very outset, with a presence attack against everyone on the ship on the order of 14-16d6. That means that anyone with a presence lower than 21 will be in a state of total, abject terror (barring special effects or miracles) and only concerned with getting as far away from the dragon as fast as possible, or just wetting themselves and waiting to get eaten (we will assume the former as default for the PCs). Actions in line with psychological disadvantages, or actions relating to your auspice bond may be taken as long as they don't interfere with the above: if they do, PRE rolls with penalties will be involved. Other actions will come at high costs, either in terms of stat rolls (likely PRE) or XP expenditure.
If you have questions about this start up of the next session, feel free to ask.
