This page is for discussion of stuff related to the game coming up this week, no matter when that actually is. For instance, we can all assume Nate isnt coming for some lame reason and that Ed is sick of pizza and is bringing teriyaki or some other crap. They can post something here if that happens to be untrue.

BEN: ok, it sounds like we are going OAAAA this week. Given that, the next FOUR sessions will be at Matt's disposal for Supers, so that we keep things fair and balanced (like your mother and a sperm whale, for instance). That does NOT include the 31st weekend, which as far as I can tell is going to be a CANCEL. We can discuss in the coming weeks (based largely on Matt and the material he has ready) if we want to switch back to OAAAA before December.

Attendance and Food Preference

11/7/08

--Gdaze -- Alright all, so I can go this weekend, who else can? If not, we still on for a spot of magic?

BEN: I'm in for gaming/magic/pizza.

--Dieter the Bold 11:22, 5 November 2008 (MST) Absent. I'll make this my final absence for a while.

--Gdaze -- Just admit it Dieter, your a magic-hater, don't commit your hate crimes here, hate crimes! Ahem, well it should be noted Noelle still won't be stopping by this Friday, but if we have Ed, me, and Ben, that is game right Matt? Or are you gonna cancel last second?

--Matts 13:48, 5 November 2008 (MST)What, you think I have a history of that or something? We're running supers on friday for sure!

--Gdaze -- No of course not good sir. 6 o'clock magic then? Matt, do you work for popcap games?

MATT: Why do you ask?

Edmiao present, no pizza

--Gdaze -- *Smacks Matt Don't answer my question with a question boy. And yay, Ed will be there.

--Matts 16:46, 6 November 2008 (MST)Why would you hit me for saying those things>?

--Gdaze -- Because I care.

Edmiao I might be late. writing with Alan, who knows when it will end. alan says he has to leave by 6. so i should not be too late. unless i have to bail because i have to work writing with alan (that's my boss) tomorrow, but i think i can negotiate that with cheryl. life is so complex. and i have to leave by 12:30 tonight.

Edmiao i am bringing halloween candy and 2L Barqs root beer.

Ranting and raving or other random comments

BEN: SO, just to keep everyone on the up and up: Kim and I broke up this past monday. It isn't on bad terms or anything, we still care a lot about each other, I'm just not in a place to maintain a serious relationship right now. She is moving back to california tomorrow night...she wanted a chance to say goodbye to all you guys but it doesn't look like it's in the cards. I will likely be getting a roommate starting December...I'll try to make sure they are "game friendly".

GABE: That sucks, but good terms is good. Just make sure he isn't like that jerk Dieter, that guy was an ass! Tell her goodbye for all of us!

KIM: I don't really know how to say "bye" on a wiki... and I'm friends with you guys on FaceBook and all that, so it's not a real goodbye, just a "see ya later" I guess. Take care of my Ben for me, and watch out for those ninja-robot-space-dragons!

Edmiao well, sorry things didn't work out. I enjoyed having you around, Kim. best of luck down in cali.

KIM: Just wanted to report that Oreo and I survived the 20 hr journey back down to the Bay, and are spending our weekend building forts with the gazillion boxes now stacked in my friend's garage... Hope everyone had a most excellent halloween! I figured that since it would take major finagling to ever play Kitty Kincaid/KatScan again, and I am just so in love with the character concept, I dressed up as KatScan for the party I went to last night... the costume was rad. What did you guys end up doing? Please tell me someone went trick-or-treating! =)

Edmiao I think that Loki will not miss oreo. just a guess. check out pictures from our vacation to Hawaii (big island of Kona)

--Dieter the Bold 13:03, 3 November 2008 (MST) Condolences to the relationship for both. Good luck with new roommates and all.

--Gdaze 14:41, 3 November 2008 (MST) Dang, those are some nice pics, that fruit is so colorful.

--Gdaze -- Oh yeah... so me and Noelle broke up too! Found out some shit happened, stuff ain't too good now. So that said we have one less person for gaming Friday.

ED- huh. bad week for relationships. sorry to hear that Gabe.

--Gdaze-- Yeah really... let us remember this week! Avoid any contact with sig others on it. Its pretty taxing, learned some hurtful shit, we'll see how it all goes. That said I may come by for magic or something on Friday we don't have enough to play, if everyone is down.

--Edmiao 19:57, 4 November 2008 (MST) Ed declares Obama the next president of the United States of America! Hurray!

--Gdaze -- I 2nd what Ed declares, huuu-rray! That said, not that most want these updates, haha, but Noelle and I talked things out, we agreed to kinda do a fresh start, restart everything. Thanks for those of you who emailed me by the way, it is still kinda bleh, but I'm a firm believer in 2nd chances. Now I'm gonna stop getting all fag on ye'all.

BEN: hey, what are friends for if you can't go all faq, er fag on them? Glad to hear it Gabe, best of luck with that: you guys seem like a pretty good team and I hope you can fix your problems. And if not, well, we're here for you.

--Brandon 18:55, 5 November 2008 (MST) Woah. So, amazing news on the presidential front, y'all, not so stellar on the relationship front. Best of luck to Kim. Gabe, I'm glad you and Noelle and still working, but sorry that things suck. Ben, tonight you can take out your frustration on those rings. On a side note, there is a very good chance that I can play a bit of Magic on Friday. I've got a new deck that I think will be really fun for two-headed giant.

Other RPG or Non-RPG or Monthly Board Gaming Day gaming Events

BEN: an idea I have been tossing around, and that I may or may not try to pursue in the next couple of months, is a schedule-less game. What I mean is: a game in which the group doesn't meet at a specific, recurring time, but just agrees, via wiki, when the next session will be...the next day, five days from then, a month from then. The game only takes place when everyone can attend. I envision this as a small game (3-4 players), using a system with a very strong narrativist streak. I have no idea yet what genre I would want to set this in, but I think it would be something with a lot of politicking and intra- and inter-character RPing and development, with a plot driven almost exclusively by the players, significant cause-effect consequences, etc (what Gemini was supposed to be, basically...I understand that this doesn't sound appealing to many, but it is a game type I still really want to explore). As such, it would probably be something like "Vampire: the masquerade" (possibly using Sabbat characters), "Hunters hunted" (White wolf mortals) or something similar if I used a published setting, or "City of Tears", "Black Sun, White Moon" or something similar if home-brewed.
Anyways, if you or someone you know would want to be part of something like this (this would NOT in any way impact friday games, obviously, which are still my primary gaming priority), just send me an email. If there's sufficient interest, and I decide that I have time/motivation to make this happen, I'll let interested parties know how it may go down, and make a new page on the wiki here for it. BEN: I think if I ran this game, it would likely be set in the world of "the league of extraordinary gentlemen" (the comic, not the movie).

GABE: Even though I would most likely be unable to join this, what about that one system/world you got? The one about the family who like use to rule the world, and now the brother controls it? That seems like a fairly heavy RP system.

BEN: Lesser shades of evil? That's a good idea. It can definitely go on the list. I guess the main thing will be what genre I want to run. My favorite RPG genre is fantasy, but I've already got that one covered. So I want to think about what other genres I haven't hit satisfactorily in the past. I'd consider doing a game set in Gemini again, like 20 years later after all the shit you guys did leads to the formation of a new fascist Regime in the distant system and the outbreak of a system-wide cold war.

Edmiao friday gaming is my max for ditching cheryl, i think. so i'm out.

Nate here: I don't know how long this has been up, but I would definitely be down for a Vampire game. Obviously I can really only do weekends so it would have to be on a sat. or sunday, but let me know if it would work out.

--Dieter the Bold 13:06, 3 November 2008 (MST) Just picked up The Burning Wheel over the weekend and am reading through it. Was highly recommended by a panel at PAX and I'm liking what I'm reading so far. So far I'm getting a "Dogs in the Vineyard" feel for it, but with a Cyberpunk-style system backing it up. Should I continue liking it all the way through the GM's and Player's guides, I will run a one-shot. Of some kind.

Weekly Magic Whining/Complaining/Smack Talking

Shards of Alara

here

JASON: I just made a new goblin deck, and since I dont play as much as you guys, any suggestions for improvement are appreciated:

17x Mountain
1x Mox Ruby
1x Mox Diamond
1x Chrome Mox
1x Lions Eye Diamond
1x Sol Ring
4x Coat of Arms
4x Goblin Charbelcher
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Goblin Grenade
2x Fireball
1x Wheel of Fortune
3x Goblin Piledriver
4x Siege Gang Commander
3x Goblin Lackey
2x Goblin Recruiter
2x Goblin Wizard
2x Goblin Warchief
4x Gempalm Incinerator

GABE: I suggest you give me the Moxs, because really, who wants those?

Is Goblin Recruiter that one that puts goblins into play?

JASON: Recruiter puts as many goblins as you want on top of your deck.

BEN: Traded away some of oour stuff to jason for a bunch of other rares, just to mix things up. Also, I passed most of my alara rares off to him so he can try to sell them...I kept the ones that wouldn't draw complaints and looked fun to play with.

Edmiao trading away cards because they draw complaints is against the spirit of the game. what are we going to talk about now?

GABE: Freaking Shadowmoor card "X", so over powered...

BEN: Ahem. [1]. [2]

Edmiao so you gave jason the entire shadowmoor block? wow. I don't think those dragons are overpowered. i mean, sacrifice 6 goblins and he's only a 16/16 flying haste creature. how is that unbalanced?

--71.216.15.253 13:53, 7 November 2008 (MST)No, seriously, I don't see how. Uh, terror, bounce, whatever. I've certainly never managed to get those kinds of huge bombs out without a major firestorm erupting.

--Brandon 14:26, 7 November 2008 (MST) The above assumes that there is some sort of rhyme or reason behind why cards for the newer sets are complained about. I have witnessed no evidence of this. (Hehe.) But, the predator dragon is especially nasty because of the flying and haste. This means that if you tap all (or even 4/5) of your mana on turn five- on the draw - you can easily take death to the face on turn 6. On a side note, at pro-tour berlin, where predator dragons were a big part of the metagame, there was one whose p/t was designated using 3 d6s (one for hundreds, one for tens, one for ones) that connected and still didn't kill the other guy.

JASON: He actually didnt trade me those, he gave them to me to sell on his behalf. This means if you guys want them back, then they can easily be returned. On another note, I think lots of things can be overpowered, but seriously, sacrifice 6 creatures? Thats pretty much all your resources. Then he is thwarted by a terror, boomerang, or any decent removal spell and now who is screwed? I dont think that creature is even a little bit overpowered. He is good and usable, but not nearly as powerful as Balance, Wrath of God, Land Tax, Lightning Bolt, Vampyric Tutor, Brainstorm, Mind Twist...you get the picture. Sure he is huge when the stars are aligned, but look at the cost.

Edmiao Gabe's mom is huge whether the stars are aligned or not, and look at that cost! free, bitches! (although there is the requisite antibiotic therapy to cure your syphilitic chancre afterwards)

GABE: I thought wikipedia was work safe... You bastard.

BEN: ROFLMAO. ROFLCOPTER. they were gonna restrict gabe's mom, you know, except a.) logistics: everybody uses her and b.) it was easier to just say: if you can get her in the door, she's tourney legal. hasn't been a problem since.

GABE: You should come play with us Jason, then you would see what true delay is, Ed's deck are awesomely long and take turns upon turns to win. Kekekeke. I bought some penny magic cards, five of them, and they gave me 10 of my mom.

Edmiao that's medical right there bloods. Wikipedia rules. what the hell is roflcopter?

BEN: L3RN 2 5p33k n00b. l0l.

Edmiao tw33k m1 n1PPLz phAg. JUADLMAOAKOYHWBYMRDS (jumping up and down laughing my ass of and krapping on your head while boning you mom rear door style).

GABE: Did you really just tell him to tweek your nipples...

Next step in Super Heroes

On Youtube:

"Zeus" speaks into the camera. The background is indistinct.

"What up, this is New Immortals shit, your motherfucking storm god, Thor up in it, uh, the Assyrian up in it, Lil' Nip, you know how we do. I gonna keep it short, cause, we all got shit goin' on, but here's the real: If you is like me, and you sick of what's been goin' on, sick of the way we been treated, sick of all that shit, or you just someone who like to fuck shit up, you get in touch with me, aaight? We forming the New Immortals Army up in here, and we gonna be hard as fuck.

So if you sick of weak-ass motherfuckers telling you what to do, you want some serious business up in here, you know, holla."

GABE: Are we gonna know this since we are currently with his gurl?

--Matts 16:43, 7 November 2008 (MST)Next time you get on the internets and look, you'll know.

Next step in Of Amor, Armor, and Alchemy

Stuff we want to buy:

Horses for all plus one or two as pack animals
Winter clothing and sleeping rolls
climbing gear and rope

picks, shovel, other digging equipment to clear cave ins? dynamite?
Ketchup (if you can't beat 'em . . .)
carrier pigeons

BEN: Well, for only three characters to go head to head with Sky was quite something. But the characters played smart and kept their actions tight and well coordinated, and victory was theirs. I'd just like to commend a few highlights, and leave it to the players to provide the summary to their fellow party members:
1.) Aefra taking down Sky with a thrown daenerys dagger...right after the MT Tithe got taken down with a 68 stun hit to the head.
2.) Aetan heaving several goblins into the abyss...or just bashing them into goblin pulp with his hammer and sending the others running in terror.
3.) Aetan diving off a bridge (!), into the abyss, after an unconscious and falling Tithe, catching him in midair with a critical success dex roll, to completely save the situation.
4.) Aefra making a cool illusory wedding band as for Grendel, to seal her marriage to him.
5.) Aetan declaring himself a vassal of Grendel.
6.) Matt prebuying luck to allow him to reroll the second of two 17 failures for a 15- roll, as an instant effect.
7.) Tithe getting dog piled by goblins and fighting his way out.

On account of numbers 1, 3, 4, and 5, but especially #3, the entire group (including Dieter, Gabe, and Nate) are awarded 1 bonus XP.
Additionally: Matt and Ed: I think that your purchased disadvantages came into play last session, so you each get the bonus from that as well.

--Gdaze -- Jeez, seems the group got a hard-on for Grendel. So is the group ever going to run into people we don't bow down and kiss their ass sometimes?

Edmiao I'm going out on a limb here.... no?

BEN: have you met anyone you particularly didn't like where it would have been beneficial to be bellicose towards them? Other than the establishment back on Caminus? Or the knight of flowers? Or the ninja orc?

--Brandon 11:18, 20 October 2008 (MST) I was going to say, though Ben has partially stolen my thunder, that I think we have established a pretty good balance between ass-kissing and ass-kicking:

Some members of Caminus establishment: kissed
Other members of said establishment: tricked/kicked
Bandits: kicked
Gwyndolin: kissed
Dragon: neither (we just ran and ran)
Ape: kicked
Knight of Flowers: kicked
Folks in Carthay: intermittent kissing
Wood Elves: stayed respectfully aloof
Ninja Orc: got kicked, then kicked
Grendel: kissed (literally)
Dragon (second time): I predict a prodigious amount of ass-kissing here

--Gdaze -- Yeah, but didn't this guy threaten us/Aefra to marry him? (Is this guy the goblin king or is that someone else?, also Fantus just doesn't like his friends being forced to do things they won't want.)

BEN: he didn't actually threaten the group at all. He had an attitude similar to the knight of flowers, really (kind of a lot of similarities, now that I think about it), except that he never hurt any member of the group (he did have the stone grab tithe's head, but it didn't hurt him...). He made requests of the group, and when they expressed reservations about the marrying thing, he got upset, explained why he was upset (the faeries chased him out as a child because he was ugly, and it nearly killed him several times), and offered the group the opportunity to just go along their merry way without doing any of his tasks, but that he would then take that as an indicator that even the best among the fae (ie, Aefra and Aetan) were nothing more than self serving, callous beings who would never respect him, and that this conclusion would lead him to join the wood elves in their war against the fae.

Edmiao yeah, so he was pretty nice about the whole thing, except for the threat of race war on your kind forevermore.

BEN: which really, when you think about it, ain't no thang. Sounds like a pretty reasonable guy, doesn't he?

Edmiao that's what i said, glad to be married to him

--Gdaze -- Totally, like a cute Hitler. I wish someone would have said "Well maybe you shouldn't have been so ugly." Although, awesome rebellion by Aefra "Look who I married dad!"

--Brandon 14:52, 20 October 2008 (MST) Ummmm, I know history is written by the victors and all, but since when is being hit hard enough to be knocked unconscious, begin bleeding to death, and be knocked off of a bridge so as to fall to one's death (barring miraculous salvation at the hands of a lucky, impulsive, clever troll) considered "not being hurt?"

--Gdaze -- How dare you speak ill of Aefra's husband and the one who hold's Aten's leash. I mean, you got better right?

--Brandon 15:08, 20 October 2008 (MST) Lolz. Yeah, if by "got better" you mean that I was healed by the smooth and silky touch of Galen's hands. Luckily, he picked just that moment to stop running repeatedly into the wall and actually do something productive.

BEN: good point. I guess he did hurt somebody. Just not somebody important. Besides, you were about to kill one more of his precious goblins (who continued to kill one another, on accident, while he was hanging around).
