This page is for discussion of stuff related to the game coming up this week, no matter when that actually is. For instance, we can all assume Nate isnt coming for some lame reason and that Ed is sick of pizza and is bringing teriyaki or some other crap. They can post something here if that happens to be untrue.

Attendance and Food Preference
Edmiao what's the plan? I'm in for whatever.
--Matts 09:46, 29 September 2009 (MST)So am I!
Edmiao sweet. even if all else bail, you up for some magic? i gotz like 4 new decks. they all suck too, so should be fun to whomp on.
--Matts 10:07, 29 September 2009 (MST)Sure, I actually have my deck with me (I mean at home), so I'd down for that at the very least. But I'd like to game too!
Edmiao Well, if Gabe is in, that would make three, which is technically quorum. Ben and Deiter are out. so we could run mass effect or a one shot. maybe we could recruit Jason for a one shot? Not sure if Raj is interested or not. Brandon?
- --Raj 13:57, 1 October 2009 (MST) I will be out of town on Friday, but thanks for the info, Ed.
--Gdaze 10:14, 29 September 2009 (MST) Alright... I think it would be best to do something this Friday. Matt still might bail though. So we got 3 people total? Maybe a one shot is in order? SCREW YOU ED!
Edmiao huh? that's what your mom said last night after the dirty sanchez. you two been comparing notes?
--Gdaze 10:56, 29 September 2009 (MST) Oh no you didn't! Anyway, you wiki blocker. I'm down for a one shot, because I'd like there to at least be 3 regulars as the current arc is gonna finish in Mass Effect.
I'm also down for much magic on Friday as well. So what kind of one shot we looking at? I'm down for a super's one, using M&M. I'll even run it, but rather play in it. Matt, input? I had an idea for a WW II super's game.
--Matts 12:24, 29 September 2009 (MST)I don't really have anything set up for M&M, since I posted the one-shot summary on the wiki already, I can't use that scenario again. My honeymoon to Europe did give me inspiration for a fantasy game about the rise and fall of royal dynasties though. Don't know how interesting that would be for you guys, but we can figure something out. I think I've got a fair number of one-shots in the cooker somewhere.
--Gdaze 14:54, 29 September 2009 (MST) I think we should use WHFRP or Champions then. I too am willing to run a one shot. Matt, lets decide by the end of today.
--Matts 15:02, 29 September 2009 (MST)Ok, so to avoid the usual sequence of dithering that always pisses off Ed, I'll run a one shot this friday. I'll be test-driving some mechanics that I'm thinking about, so that part may be a little rough. Let's use WFRP for the sake of familiarity, BUT i'm going to be looking for ways to speed up the combat.
--Gdaze 15:25, 29 September 2009 (MST) Sounds good. Um, isn't WHFRP pretty fast? I'll see if I can't round up another player. Why do I say that? See if I can not? Why not just say, see if I can? That makes no sense. Are we all gonna play as nobles then?
Or mix it up, make us space nobles, or nobles with super powers! Wooooo~
--Matts 15:41, 29 September 2009 (MST)I was thinking the noble in question would be an NPC or a particularly game PC, and the players would be retainers of various stripes from across the standard low-fantasy buffet: Armsmasters, sages, mages, thieves, barbarians, priests, merchants, whatever. The basic charge of the group is to navigate the noble through the treacherous waters of politics: assasinate his rivals, recruit allies, strong-arm people, etc. Think Cardinal Richileu or Colbert or Svengali.
I think the primary thing that slows down WFRP combat is hit locations, so I'd probably take them out except for critical hits and only use critical hits for particularly notable enemies.
--Gdaze 16:10, 29 September 2009 (MST) That sounds like fun. No idea who you mentioned there. What verse you setting it in? I would like to play a mage if possible. Or if no magic, a knight.
Also that would be great I think, will you give equal armor points across the board then? As in who cares if they are wearing a helmet. That way characters can even have a certain look down (example, why don't Space Marine Captains ever were them?). I think that would speed it up a lot. Also just have stright stats, ending in either a 5 or 0.
Edmiao Are we playing at Gabes? Matt, shall we carpool? No pizza for me. yeah, hit locations are fairly meaningless unless you have asymmetric armor, which is rare. i presume from their silence that our pinch hitters (jason, brandon) are not coming. Someone should call Nate.
--Matts 10:47, 30 September 2009 (MST)We could carpool, that'd be good I think. Is nate still around? Has he deployed yet?
Edmiao he showed up two weeks ago for the one shot and at that time he had not signed up. but he seemed pretty inclined to do so. we were trying to talk him out of it.
JASON: As far as I know this week I am going to a board game thing with Rumis friends on Friday. If I dont, I could get in on this. I like the way it sounds.
--Gdaze 14:47, 30 September 2009 (MST) I think Brandon already said he couldn't. Yeah, my place is fine.
Ed. What time and place shall i pick you up, matt?
--Matts 09:32, 1 October 2009 (MST)In belltown, any time?
Ed. I will be done with work at exactly 5:00. Gabe what time you home?
BEN: Change in plans: I'm available tomorrow. I can host, or I can drive over to Gabe's. I have to get up at like 5 AM to drive to leavenworth though, so i won't be able to stay up that late. I think I can make it home by 6, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyways, I'll try to attend wherever.
--Gdaze 13:23, 1 October 2009 (MST) 5:30 or 6, most likely that is when you guys will be coming by anyway.
--Matts 21:49, 1 October 2009 (MST)I'm location-agnostic this time. Ben's is obviously closer and easier, but then he's got to get to bed early, but then, it'd probably be best if I wasn't out until who knows how late.
--Gdaze 10:18, 2 October 2009 (MST) Not sure if I can get the car today or not. But would someone make a fucking choice? Ed, decide.
Quote(s) of the week
Elemental: (to police chief, who thanked them for their good work) That certainly isn't going to help Viho's colossal ego. (or something like that...)
CyberJesus: I'm so sick and tired of this bullshit Thomas Kinkaid police state!
Ashbury: I grow plants that may or may not be used for pharmaceutical purposes
Ed/Aefra: "I use Seduction on the baby"
"Galen, you're wearing a dress." "Yes, but I still look better in it than in you do in your clothes."
Ranting and Raving
Edmiao I gave Raj the wiki link when i was over picking up the cards and invited him to join us if he's inclined.
Edmiao welcome back from the honeymoon, matt. no stiches?
--Matts 12:06, 29 September 2009 (MST)Nope! Not too many crazy stories at all, though we did wind up staying in Brussels in a furnished apartment named "Mr Burgess", outside of which there was a squadron of hookers camped out. Other apartment names in the building: J. Bond, and "Galore".
Edmiao the depth of awesomeness in that cannot be plumbed.
JASON: I dont know if I mentioned this or not, but I have a pdf copy of Hero 6th. Its kind of become a dirty word around this wiki, I know, but I think its worth checking out. As you guys are probably aware, I pretty much gave up on Hero last year. The biggest difference I can see is the 'Toolkitting' aspect of the game. There arent a lot of hard and fast rules. There are 'this is how most games do it', with corresponding toolkit examples of how to adjust the game for your setting to make it different and interesting. For instance, in heroic games there are 4 suggestions of different ways to calculate skill rolls.
Beyond that, its an almost completely different game. Dex does not figure CV anymore. No more Comeliness. Lots of powers are gone.
I might try it out once or twice to see how it is. Or I must use Indiana Jones Masterbook and say fuck Hero forever (substituting it for Gabes mom).
Edmiao hero 6th. interesting. sort of reluctant to switch.
did some gunslinging at the mtg pre-release last weekend. zach played the probably tournament standard landfall deck against me, played that red sorcery that shuffles all permanents into deck and redeals that many cards and you keep whatever is a permanent. Ob whatever, that ridiculous black creature came out and he triggers landfall for all the lands that come out simultaneously. now that seemed totally lame, that if a creature and a land enter simultaneously that the creatures landfall triggers. how can the creature has to come into play before the landfall ability becomes active, right? and the land and creature come into play at the same time, so using real world logic, it would not see the land fall because it did not exist before the land fell. whatever. When i got my peranents, i got eye of the storm, and i had electrolyze and swerve in hand. i electrolyzed, and if i had been smarter i would have swerved it, to cast electrolyze twice, but i was dumb. had i done that i would have drawn two cards and won the game with more instants. bummer.
--Gdaze 16:12, 29 September 2009 (MST) What the fuck is this youtube post above me? Hero sixth eh? Well I'm always for a game system trying to fix itself. Plus after their failed online game...
--Matts 16:27, 29 September 2009 (MST)Oh man, Warp World with Ob Nixilis is just gross gross gross. That said, your Eye of the Storm deck and the standard warp world deck share a theme in that they both employ symmetrical effects to a devastating purpose. How do Warp World and Eye of the Storm interact anyways?
JASON: I ddont think their online game has failed, I know quite a few people playing it. So far, it looks like they made good changes. No more Damage Reduction. Instead, Damage Negation: each 5 points in this power reduces the DC of incoming eligible attacks by 1. A much better power, and more universally useful.
Edmiao Hmmm. the game i played, eye was not in play and it came into play via warp world. If eye was in play, it would counter and copy warp world, then warp world would shuffle eye into the deck and all the previously removed cards instants/sorceries would be lost from the game.
--Gdaze 15:08, 30 September 2009 (MST) Well, it was suppose to blow all other super mmos out of the water, and it really didn't. Plus after reading reviews on it, it seems as if it was rushed. I mean people reached the max level over the weekend. Personally, I just can't stand the way it looks.
--Gdaze 15:41, 30 September 2009 (MST) And Jason, what Alternity books do you have for sale?
Other RPG or Non-RPG or Monthly Board Gaming Day gaming Events
Edmiao I took ALL the magic cards. Will return them friday at games, all organized. it's an impressive set now. i gots a bunch of new decks, anyone interested in some magic this week? bought some singles from berserk games via their website cardkingdom.com. pretty nice setup, you place an order in store or from home and go pick em up to avoid shipping costs.
BEN: I don't think I'll make it to the release events this weekend, but I'm trying to make a Valakut deck, so whoever goes, I'd love to trade you for your release foil.
Edmiao the designer Zack was playing that deck against Joe in gunslinging. it was pretty ridiculous. bunch of ball lightnings, direct damage and some mini ball lightning creature with unearth. that deck will force a lot of land destruction decks coming back into vogue.
--Brandon 21:37, 28 September 2009 (MST) Ed, I think you're referencing Hellspark Elemental, which is awesome in decks like that (I have one on MWS that is really fun). Also, I'm pretty sure Kelly Digges references a conversation with Chris in this article, although it's about winning in 2 Headed Giant with Lorthos, rather than Chris's raving about the unfairness of Luminarch Ascension. ; ).
--Gdaze 11:14, 29 September 2009 (MST) Ed, what days would work for you this week for magic? I'm looking at Wed.
Edmiao i have to clear it with the wife. its a definite maybe. actually, i think its unlikely i will be able to do more than an hour of magic wed or thurs, and your place is too far a drive for a short stint. may have to wait until friday.
JASON: Any possibility that Ed might want to organize my Magic cards in exchange for a few thousand that you guys can put into your collection?
--Gdaze 14:54, 29 September 2009 (MST) Well, lets just wait until Friday then? I mean since we got no one shots planned.
Edmiao Hmm. Jason, depends on how many cards you have. but sure, why not. maybe I should just work for an hour and see how far I get, and by that we can see how long it would take, and if it is worth it to you. Personally, i find it hard to make decks when the cards are all mixed up. Probably that's because i don't have all the new cards memorized. For our sets we have about a third of the cards that needed to be organized and it took me 30-45 minutes per color probably, but while listening to the tv, so its not so bad.
JASON: I have 50,000 cards approximately. The sorting has begun, and I wouldnt need them to be quite as organized as you have them at Bens. I have them mostly organized into common, uncommon and rare, with the rares fully sorted and the uncommon 75% sorted. I just need them by color and then anything else under that, alpa, casting cost, whatever. No need to do spells, instants etc.
Edmiao sure, why not. i have the bens condo collection as spells and creatures separated, by color artifact gold or land, by casting cost, alphabetical.
Mass Effect
Current Mass Effect XP: 1000 Starting + 1900 xp = 2900. (Current at end of 8/28/09)
BEN: I'm posting here for ease of viewing...it can get moved to the recap section at your leisure. IN short, what we accomplished:
1.) Discovered that the horned, hooved folks are called narthaks. They are megalomaniacal, genocidal peoples, by the looks of it. Then again, they genocided people who were going to genocide them after they figured out how to dodge the pesky genocide courtesy of the Reapers. But they sounded a little too happy about the whole thing, so I'm not a big fan of them, personally. We also discovered that they are in suspended animation in some sort of "the matrix" where they are training to take over the galaxy, soonish. But if we get that genocide weapon, which is probably on Armeni, we can head them off at the pass.
2.) Sold 90% of those seeds. Stop screaming, we got 2.5 million credits for them. And access to the corporate black market to get rare items, and all the money in a tax-free, untraceable account. Each player gets 100,000 credits to spend. Check out this shiny 8/8 shield!
3.) 300 XP all around. Huzzah!
4.) Discovered another narthak planet, and killed 8 zombie lizards and a maintenance robot. Also blew up a giant exhaust port.
5.) Fizzak created a cipher that even corporate black ops can't crack. Five degrees of success FTW.
Next step in Of Amor, Armor, and Alchemy
Current OAAAA XP: 75 base + 352 XP; Followers: 15 XP (current as of 8/7/09)
ED: How long did you say the interim was between act 2 and 3 again, ben? 10 years would be great, time to fit a lot of goings on.
BEN: 10 years is correct. Some things for the next session of OAAAA:
1.) Everybody will get to spend their bonus "interim" XP as they please, I've changed my mind about forcing expenditures in a certain way.
2.) I want everyone to think about their interim adventures. At the start of the nextsession, I amthinking we may do Gemini style card "prologues" in which we explore people's adventures: the person we are doing it for presents the overall theme/happenings, and then we run through it, with the group contributing details. Group bonus XP will be assigned based on cool story effects people come up with in these. If this idea seems too complex or seems like it will give other players too much involvement in your interim events,we can can it and just let each person do a narrative, in character or out.
3.) I will clarify happenings in the world at the first session of book 3.
ED: Sounds fun. I wrote up a bunch of ideas, i think there's plenty of room for adventures in between the paragraphs. Brandon, what is your email so i can send you the Tithe sheet. I may not have done a great job on him, he was pretty low on the damage potential, but still could take hits quite well. you may want to remod him, i'm sure ben would be fine with that. although i really think you should keep the pegasus, since it played a major role in the fight with the dragon. Let you fly and catch Aeten, bring him back to the battle and Aeten immediately thereafter struck the killing blow.
--Brandon 20:53, 9 August 2009 (MST) Sweet. A pegasus sounds awesome, and I was totally thinking about getting a mount for Tithe anyway, so that's perfect. I'm glad that Tithe played a solid role. My e-mail is olsenb3 [at] u.washington.edu. I would appreciate a full recap at some point, if someone has the time. Gratz, y'all!!
--Dieter the Bold 15:41, 13 August 2009 (MST) I think such a prologue adventure thing would be awesome. I heartily approve. Also, I personally would like a little GM wild-card in how points get spent, but that's just me. Ben, do you have the time/interest to do that with Galen?
BEN: sure...or rather, if you want you can use your prologue adventure thing to drive your xp expenditure. Or I'm happy to take as heavy of a hand as you want. Also, if we do this, the player who was "on the spot" would have full veto power over any card played: this may sound like a cop-out, but the point is to generate a backstory for those 10 years that appeals to the given player, and that trumps. I don't anticipate this being a problem, but it's easier to enforce than a "don't be a dick" policy. Also, any given player can just opt-out and write/come up with his own background for that time.
--Gdaze 13:48, 16 September 2009 (MST) So is that exp at the top, all the exp we have? Or am I missing the extra bit for the last 10 years? Also, Ben, should I email you with what my guy has been up to? Or are we doing this card thing?
