Current events
This page is for discussion of stuff related to the game coming up this week, no matter when that actually is. For instance, we can all assume Nate isnt coming for some lame reason and that Ed is sick of pizza and is bringing teriyaki or some other crap. They can post something here if that happens to be untrue.

Attendance and Food Preference
--Gdaze 09:13, 12 October 2009 (MST) I'm down for finishing off the current story in my game. Can we get at least 3 people there?
BEN: it's Nate's last gaming weekend for who knows how long, so come hell or high water we're playing this weekend. I'll be there.
Edmiao I'll be there.
--Matts 11:53, 12 October 2009 (MST)I'm down to play also. If we play Kingmakers, Nate's gonna be the Noble (though he doesn't have to actually make a Noble).
--Gdaze 12:06, 12 October 2009 (MST) Hmm, maybe we could do both? I dunno. I mean Ed seems to want to have the last big fight. But I'm down for whatever. Lets decide by Wed. please.
--Matts 12:23, 12 October 2009 (MST)Oh, well then nevermind, and let's roll with Mass Effect. Doing both sounds kinda dumb. Really dumb.
--Gdaze 12:38, 12 October 2009 (MST) You sound dumb. And get Rina her own profile on your computer so your AIM isn't up while she uses it.
Well if we just want to stop Mass Effect altogether I'm fine with that, really am. I dunno if the last adventure will even fill out the entire night. Maybe we could make characters then? Do some back stories? Or just magic after then?
BEN: If all that's left in ME is a big fight, I say we either a.) skip pregame magic and do the battle at 6pm and then start Kingmakers or b.) go straight to Kingmakers...it'll be way easier to incorporate Nate and I think we're all pumped about this game. Also, Nate doesn't play Magic, so the idea of spending all night playing magic except for one battle seems silly to me.
--Matts 14:06, 12 October 2009 (MST)I agree that we should play less magic and more game. I can have kingmakers ready to go on friday.
--Gdaze 14:27, 12 October 2009 (MST) Well, you want to just end ME then? I mean I can just go over what happens pretty much. And yeah thats why I suggested to do battle then Kingmakers, but Matt is flip floping like a fish. A FISH I TELL YOU!
In all honesty I just don't think I picked the best system to run ME. It was just a filler game really to take the ease off of A^100 because of Ben being on rotation. So how about magic at 6, and then King Makers at 7. And I can always hold off ME stuff for a one shot down the line.
Ed. Wow. ME went from "the climactic finale" to "booorrriiinng and dead" in under 60seconds. Exact same thing happened with gabe's mom last night.
--Gdaze 14:34, 12 October 2009 (MST) Eh, I don't mind. A new game is always more exciting, usually. And ME seemed to be dragging its feet (my bad, I know). It was basically just gonna be a zombie shoot out with you guys well... I'll save that for later.
Nate Daddy here: I will be there. If there's room I can probably drag my buddy D or Adam or both along. I'm looking forward to friday.
Edmiao Ben, you home tonight? I wanted to drop by and grab my WFRP book to peruze careers. if not, I'll give raj a buzz.
Quote(s) of the week
Elemental: (to police chief, who thanked them for their good work) That certainly isn't going to help Viho's colossal ego. (or something like that...)
CyberJesus: I'm so sick and tired of this bullshit Thomas Kinkaid police state!
Ashbury: I grow plants that may or may not be used for pharmaceutical purposes
Ed/Aefra: "I use Seduction on the baby"
"Galen, you're wearing a dress." "Yes, but I still look better in it than in you do in your clothes."
Ranting and Raving
BEN: just picked up the new Rogue Trader. It's pretty f-ing sweet. Really high production values, too.
--Gdaze 09:12, 12 October 2009 (MST) Man Jason, that sounds freaking awful. I'd be crying most likely, I suck at taking pain... how do I even get a tattoo?
And Ben I saw this book too over the weekend, but I didn't buy it because well... it is just so much cheaper on Amazon. But yeah, it looks pretty cool, much more freeform then Inques. Plus I like how the scope of the game is kinda big, like buying planets and running your trading dynasty.
Edmiao what's on tap after this week's mass effect?
JASON: I made it. And Gabe, on a scale of 1-5 for pain threshold, I give myself a 1.5. Im a wussy-baby-little girl-bitch. I do NOT recommend kidney stones. Not even for my worst enemies. Ok, well, maybe for them. Im also an asshole.
Edmiao congrats on giving birth to your first offspring, jason. what are you gonna name the little pebble?
--Gdaze 11:25, 12 October 2009 (MST) They just sound painful, even with out Ed's lovely details on them. Glad to hear it is all gone then. And what's on tap, I'd say AAAAAA or King Makers. I'm pretty excited about King Makes but only because I've been reading the Savage Sword of Conan comics.
JASON: I played Chaos In The Old World[1] last night, and I would like to make a few statements. Its more simple than your average Fantasy Flight game, but still convoluted in points. You can see BSG and A Game of Thrones in it. The dice dont drive the game, but they are a factor. Unless you are Khorne, which I was.
Dieter likes to bitch about playing dice games with me. Twice I got pretty lucky against him in major battles. Once, it was on the order of 1 in 10,000, the other time about 1 in 1000. In neither game did it matter, for I failed to turn that fortune into a win.
Blood for the blood god! To win with Khorne you need to kill stuff in as many territories as you can every turn. Its generally better to kill 1 guy in 2 places than 3 guys in one. You also get to go first, but generally enemy units get to fight back. The Bloodthirster is the baddest mother in the game, and after some early success I got an upgrade that made my Bloodletters able to inflict their kills with no return fire. About halfway through the game I was in the lead, tenuously, but had a critical turn coming that could set me up for the future.
As an aside, in combat you roll one die for each axe on your units card. Bloodletters have 2, Bloodthirster has 4. Any roll of 4+ hits, while 6 hits and can be rerolled.
Back to my situation. I had two combats in two territories (I hadnt spread myself out like I should because of some Old World cards that were making stuff difficult). I was rolling a total of 8 dice, 4 of which remove the opposing figure without allowing them to strike back. Each of my opponents were rolling 1 die total. I missed on all 8 dice. My opponents rolled 8 consecutive 6's and wiped out every figure I had on the board except one non-combatant. Game over.
Probability: less than 1 in 214,990,000
--Matts 12:01, 13 October 2009 (MST)So that game is basically Risk with Bloodthirsters? Where do I sign up????????????????????
JASON: Its a lot better than Risk. Most of the powers have a lot of interesting things to do besides fight stuff. As Khorne, you fight stuff and prevent the others from doing their cool stuff at a high rate. As Nurgle you corrupt provinces. As Slaanesh you corrupt nobles which allow you to dominate provinces. As Tzeentch you do all sorts of crazy shit. Its relatively true to the feel of how the chaos gods interact.
--Gdaze 12:36, 13 October 2009 (MST) Well I'm glad to hear it is better then Risk, I really don't enjoy Risk. But this game looks pretty tight. Also what a finish... jeez.
Mass Effect
Current Mass Effect XP: 1000 Starting + 1900 xp = 2900. (Current at end of 8/28/09)
BEN: I'm posting here for ease of viewing...it can get moved to the recap section at your leisure. IN short, what we accomplished:
1.) Discovered that the horned, hooved folks are called narthaks. They are megalomaniacal, genocidal peoples, by the looks of it. Then again, they genocided people who were going to genocide them after they figured out how to dodge the pesky genocide courtesy of the Reapers. But they sounded a little too happy about the whole thing, so I'm not a big fan of them, personally. We also discovered that they are in suspended animation in some sort of "the matrix" where they are training to take over the galaxy, soonish. But if we get that genocide weapon, which is probably on Armeni, we can head them off at the pass.
2.) Sold 90% of those seeds. Stop screaming, we got 2.5 million credits for them. And access to the corporate black market to get rare items, and all the money in a tax-free, untraceable account. Each player gets 100,000 credits to spend. Check out this shiny 8/8 shield!
3.) 300 XP all around. Huzzah!
4.) Discovered another narthak planet, and killed 8 zombie lizards and a maintenance robot. Also blew up a giant exhaust port.
5.) Fizzak created a cipher that even corporate black ops can't crack. Five degrees of success FTW.
Next step in Of Amor, Armor, and Alchemy
Current OAAAA XP: 75 base + 352 XP; Followers: 15 XP (current as of 8/7/09)
ED: How long did you say the interim was between act 2 and 3 again, ben? 10 years would be great, time to fit a lot of goings on.
BEN: 10 years is correct. Some things for the next session of OAAAA:
1.) Everybody will get to spend their bonus "interim" XP as they please, I've changed my mind about forcing expenditures in a certain way.
2.) I want everyone to think about their interim adventures. At the start of the nextsession, I amthinking we may do Gemini style card "prologues" in which we explore people's adventures: the person we are doing it for presents the overall theme/happenings, and then we run through it, with the group contributing details. Group bonus XP will be assigned based on cool story effects people come up with in these. If this idea seems too complex or seems like it will give other players too much involvement in your interim events,we can can it and just let each person do a narrative, in character or out.
3.) I will clarify happenings in the world at the first session of book 3.
ED: Sounds fun. I wrote up a bunch of ideas, i think there's plenty of room for adventures in between the paragraphs. Brandon, what is your email so i can send you the Tithe sheet. I may not have done a great job on him, he was pretty low on the damage potential, but still could take hits quite well. you may want to remod him, i'm sure ben would be fine with that. although i really think you should keep the pegasus, since it played a major role in the fight with the dragon. Let you fly and catch Aeten, bring him back to the battle and Aeten immediately thereafter struck the killing blow.
--Brandon 20:53, 9 August 2009 (MST) Sweet. A pegasus sounds awesome, and I was totally thinking about getting a mount for Tithe anyway, so that's perfect. I'm glad that Tithe played a solid role. My e-mail is olsenb3 [at] u.washington.edu. I would appreciate a full recap at some point, if someone has the time. Gratz, y'all!!
--Dieter the Bold 15:41, 13 August 2009 (MST) I think such a prologue adventure thing would be awesome. I heartily approve. Also, I personally would like a little GM wild-card in how points get spent, but that's just me. Ben, do you have the time/interest to do that with Galen?
BEN: sure...or rather, if you want you can use your prologue adventure thing to drive your xp expenditure. Or I'm happy to take as heavy of a hand as you want. Also, if we do this, the player who was "on the spot" would have full veto power over any card played: this may sound like a cop-out, but the point is to generate a backstory for those 10 years that appeals to the given player, and that trumps. I don't anticipate this being a problem, but it's easier to enforce than a "don't be a dick" policy. Also, any given player can just opt-out and write/come up with his own background for that time.
--Gdaze 13:48, 16 September 2009 (MST) So is that exp at the top, all the exp we have? Or am I missing the extra bit for the last 10 years? Also, Ben, should I email you with what my guy has been up to? Or are we doing this card thing?
