Background

Lieutenant Commander Akoval th'Idrani lorTheel'zhiin (or just Akoval for short) was born in 2313 on Andoria. Even in his youth he demonstrated great potential for martial skills and, after completing his University studies, joined the Andorian Home Guard as a member of the infantry. In 2342, after a series of joint training operations with Starfleet marines he applied for a transfer to Starfleet. He served strongly in the Starfleet Marines and was awarded several commendations for bravery under fire, including one incident, in 2355, in which he took control of his platoon in the field after their commanding officer was killed by enemy fire. He was then invited by Starfleet to apply to the MOC program to become a starship officer. He was accepted and graduated from the program in 2360, after which he worked his way up through the ranks, commanding security details and marines on several ships including the USS Princeton, the USS Saratoga. He received his first commission as security chief on the USS Berlin. He's spent time around the Triangle before and is glad to be back.

Logs

Personal Log, Stardate something Tonight I met the captain and senior officers of the Niven, to which I've just been assigned. Additionally, Captain Frasier, who now serves under me, received the Medal of Valor, 2nd class. I'm glad to know that there are such fine people under my command. I met with a few of the other senior grunts and they all seem solid enough. Still, there's no knowing until I actually see them training and put them into action, though I admit I've been hearing good things about this crew. Solid at a social function is not the same as solid under fire

Tactical Officer's Log, Stardate a few days later We're now en route to Baker's Planet to deliver some delegates who had been at Starbase 27. Along the way we were ordered to deliver some supplies to DSR-3, which is studying a zone of abnormally high subspace radiation. The radiation interfered with our sensors and communications so we had to rely on tractor beams from the station to bring us in. As we got to within a few hours of the station, we hailed them and were in mid-sentence when we were cut off mid-sentence. The transmission didn't drop - we were still connected - it just seemed like suddenly there was nobody there.

As we approached to within transporter range, I prepped a security team and then a few of us beamed across to check on the situation, still unable to raise anyone on subspace. We found a station empty of people. This was, needless to say, a bit unnerving since we'd just been talking with them. Further investigation showed that in the security camera recordings that we could find, all the people had just vanished, instantly.

We split up to take a closer look around the ship and ran across these strange meter-or-so long slug-like creatures. They seemed to be able to extrude appendages almost like amoebic pseudopodia. Also, they attacked us pretty much on sight. They were tough little bastards too - I had to set my phaser to level 7 to make much of a dent in them. Further investigation showed that they had entered through a breach in the hull of the station, though I am unsure if they created the breach or merely exploited it.

It was soon discovered that one of the research labs present on the station had accidentally pulled everyone on board, including previously-undetected a Cardassian saboteur, into some sort of transporter buffer or holding pattern. When they were released from the buffer, the Cardassian appeared right next to Lt. Commander Hazor and took a quick swipe at him, before Hazor put him down. I can't think of a more appropriate fate.
