This page is for discussion of stuff related to the game coming up this week, no matter when that actually is. For instance, we can all assume Nate isnt coming for some lame reason and that Ed is sick of pizza and is bringing teriyaki or some other crap. They can post something here if that happens to be untrue.

--Edmiao 20:07, 22 January 2008 (MST) Combat damage goes into the stack as an object. thus, attacking and blocking players tell where the damage will be assigned, and the whole gamish goes into the stack as a single object. then you can respond with instants before that object resolves. Thus, I think I am correct that I can have a sliver do it's damage and then tap to regenerate itself.
Regenerate actually does this: "The next time [permanent] would be destroyed this turn, instead remove all damage from it, tap it, and (if it’s in combat) remove it from combat.”
Pestilence is activated one point at a time [1], thus you would have to regen skeletons for each activation of 1 point of damage. same goes for CoP black, it would have to be activated once to prevent each 1 point of damage.

So... just thought I'd post these rulings, it seems creature effects do NOT resolve before any instants.
Also a ruling on that "at the begaining of your upkeep"
Phase abilities have been completely eliminated. All abilities that used to say "During [phase]", "At the start of [phase]", or "At the end of [phase]" have all been turn are now triggered abilities that trigger at the beginning of the appropriate step or phase--they say "At the beginning of {step or phase}, {do something}." (Note that "At the end of combat" and "At end of turn" really mean "At the beginning of the end of combat step" and "At the beginning of the end of turn step", respectively.)
This also eliminates some of the rules that were relevant to phase abilities. Prior to this rules update, you had to deal with "beginning of" phase abilities before "during" phase abilities, which had to be dealt with before you could deal with "end of" phase abilities. This is no longer the case; since all of these abilities trigger simultaneously, if you control all of them you can put them onto the stack in any order you choose, and therefore have them resolve in any order you wish.
In addition, the rule about not being able to play activated abilities of a permanent before dealing with any "phase costs" (phase abilities that involved paying some sort of cost) has been eliminated.
Triggered abilities that aren't mana abilities go onto the stack and can be responded to just like spells. You choose targets and modes for them as they are put onto the stack, and all other decisions they call for are made when the ability resolves.
(Before this rules change, triggered abilities could never be responded to and resolved first-in, first out. This is no longer the case.)
This will change our gameplay a bit!
--Edmiao 17:07, 23 January 2008 (MST) hmm. that is a new ruling since i was playing back in the day. it seems that you do not have to finish up the triggered abilities before using activated abilities. So in the case of the money lender vs the triggered black vise like witch, her ability triggers at the beginning of upkeep, but can be resonded to by any instants/fast effects. this would include the money lender, so he could activate his ability, which would go into the stack above the witch and thus would take effect first and he could potentially save you from the witch. kind of unfortunate that the keep modifying the rules. probably simpler this way.
--Gdaze-- It seems these are all changes after sixth edition.
--Edmiao 17:13, 23 January 2008 (MST) guess that was after i stopped reading the rules. one funny thought, the ultimate vs Door to Nothingness is the blue spell Deflection: change target of spell from one target to another legal target. oh wait, it's not a spell, it's an activated ability, nevermind.
