considered a "champion of the people" kind of hero in the late 60s and early 70s, shockwave did a lot of crime-fighting and street-cleaning (the kind you do with your fists, not with your broom, kid) at a time when most prominent Supers were being recruited by the government to fight the Reds. Although he was approached by numerous heroes and their adjunct organizations, shockwave declined repeatedly. Nevertheless, he rose to become a symbol of the "American way". Shortly after his rapid rise in fame, Shockwave suffered a crushing defeat by a never identified group of supervillains and announced his retirement.
