Lt. Maniersi: Flight Officer's Log ..... Joran Maniersi ..... Star Trek: The Triangle Missions

Joran Maniersi, Flight Officer's Log, Stardate 40344.7:

We've had quite the adventure the past few days. And we now have a rich, litigious treasure hunter with a famed attorney on board, Dr. Emil Pasternak. It started when I took an external survey of the station to see if there was anything notable about its external features. I found what looked like a deflector dish at its top which was positioned to focus on a specific set of coordinates in orbit around Psellus III. A focused scan of the coordinates revealed trace debris, and Captain Koyanagi ordered us into geosynchronous orbit near them, which put us over Psellus III's secondary continent, about which our databanks had rather few details. When we tried to scan the surface below, we encountered some kind of sensor cloud that blocked all readings. The Captain ordered a team put together including me, herself, Lt. Cmdr.Dyan, Lt. Thitaris Thalen and two Marines. The flight down was uneventful and we spotted a base camp of interconnected habitation tents.

Landing nearby, we scouted the tents and discovered logs of Dr. Pasternak detailing his quasi-legal (the recognized Psellion government has requested no external contact with the inhabitants of their secondary continent) archeological expedition, (which is apparently being supported by the Chang clan, as Klingons with their markings were seen patrolling in the background). Our Marine guards noticed some primitive Psellions observing us and the camp. Following the tracks of the expedition's rover, we found that they had fallen afoul of the local Psellions, who appeared to have a much more primitive culture, as they wielded crude chemical slug-throwers. We found Dr. Pasternak in a very precarious position, having offended the locals' customs. Some of his Klingon "partners" apparently didn't approve of Federation involvement and there was some fire exchanged, with damage to our shuttle (and a near-death experience for me!) and an unfortunate death to them. Still, we managed to retrieve the good Doctor and one of his Klingon partners (wounded), and leave at least a neutral impression of the Federation and Starfleet among the locals. The Humans have a saying from Earth, "No good deed goes unpunished", and given the frown lines appearing on Captain Koyanagi's forehead when Dr. Pasternak comes up, it seems like our rescue is bringing less good-will than hoped for.
