Lt. Maniersi: Flight Officer's Log ..... Joran Maniersi ..... Star Trek: The Triangle Missions

Joran Maniersi, Flight Officer's Log, Stardate 40337.7:

As the crew raced to their duty-stations, I ran towards Chief Harald Lysander's transporter bay to see what his condition was. I discovered two members of the medical team unconscious in the hall near the transporter bay and paused to determine that they were in need of immediate medical aid. I called in their condition and location to sickbay, then continued on to the transporter bay. I found Chief Lysander slumped up against the wall but in much better condition. I left him for the moment and established a level 1 security field around the transporter before beaming over the occupant of the Phoenix (the Captain's Yacht). I must admit to surprise when a Romulan agent materialized on the transporter pad. Things appeared to be much more complicated than I initially suspected. I informed the Captain and requested a security team to the transporter bay. The security and medical teams arrived about the same time, followed soon after by Lt. Cmdr.'s Akoval & Dyan and Captain Koyanagi. Through some subtle mental probing and observation of the Romulan's facial & body postures, I determined that she had had Tal-Shiar training and quietly informed the Captain. The Romulans are over-confident of their heritage. Despite embracing their full emotions, they still haven't achieved the psychic potential of more mature races, like the Betazoids. Still, the Romulan informed us she was an Envoy and was expected by both the Klingons and the local government on Psellus III. After some negotiation the Romulan, called Rovek, surrendered her weapon and was escorted to the brig by Lt. Cmdr. Dyan and a security team.

I returned to duty on the bridge and supervised the tractoring of the Phoenix back into its docking station. While doing so, I took the time to make some additional scans of the O.S. Camarain. As the scans ran, I went over what the Orions had told us and the unfolding relationship between them, the Romulan and the Klingons. It occurred to me, that given the virulence of the Blood Fever Dr. O'Grady explained, and the shelf-life of the inoculations meant that placing an order for the medicine on Cardassia Prime wouldn't have allowed enough time for delivery. I confirmed this with our starcharts, and was pleased to see my conjectures supported by the traces of a certain nebula on the Camarain's hull. A nebula located between The Triangle and Romulus! There was definitely more going on then everyone wanted us to know.

Boarding the Phoneix with an engineer, we went over the logs and consoles to see what had been done, but didn't find anything sabotaged or out of place, except that it seemed Rovek had initiated the communication to the Klingon battlecruiser (now identified as the Drov'na), suggesting collusion between the Romulan's and Klingons (who, it's turning out, are Duras-allied under the command of one K'vor Chang) After some negotiations with the Captain, the inoculations and Rovek were to be turned over to the Klingons down on the surface under the jurisdiction of the local government. I was part of the Away Team and witnessed some interesting psychodynamics between the head of the Psellion government and Rovek. Doesn't look like the locals appreciate their old overseers scheming on their planet. The Captain was also approached by a Ferengi, one Damon Mok, about financial support of a new Ferengi resort being planned on Psellus III. When will those base creatures ever learn that the Federation isn't tempted by such ridiculous proposals. Clearly having four lobes to one's brain doesn't provide any addition to one's intelligence!

We returned through the ship and prepared to depart, when the Science Division reported scans of the system detected some kind of structure in the outer part of the system. Closer investigation revealed an old and damaged Romulan station! After determining there weren't any lifesigns or active defenses, I shuttled a Security and Engineering team over to take inventory of any salvagable items, as the station's hull prevented beaming. I noticed an out of place panel which Lt. Cmdr. Dyan's team opened up to reveal a Jeffrey's Tube leading to a barely functioning console. We were able to get some information out of it before it lost the last of its power and went permanently dark: the personnel logs of the Command Staff for the station and any deployment information for Romulan fleets in the area. The information's over 2 years old, but any military information on the Romulans is useful information.
