Nanomaterials research involves using nanotechnological manufacturing methods to enhance the qualities or capabilities of other materials. Carbon nanotubes, for example, are a product of nanomaterials research.

This research branch may allow for certain enhancements, or might open the possibility of "designer materials" to achieve certain needs or tasks as they arise.
