Future Imperfect: Meet the Actors
Throughout this book you will find many examples to illustrate how the game is played. Hopefully, these examples help the text come alive and inspire you to create amazing gaming experiences for you and your friends. These examples are populated with characters from our games. Every one of them was either a major or minor part of a game we, the authors, played. Sometimes games we played together. Without further ado...
Tara 7, an NPC. This is a character straight out of the original Space Opera scenario, Alien Base. After rescuing her from said base, she became an important background NPC and was eventually recruited into AAA Badass for her computer skills.
Johan Hemsler, an NPC. Also rescued from the Alien Base scenario, Hemsler was found with a clone of himself. Each of them insisted they were the real and the other was the clone. Since they were competent engineers, both joined the crew and became part of AAA Badass. Interestingly, they became inseparable after being rescued, each thinking the other was the coolest person they had ever met.
Alison McGee, played by Rumi. A hotshot pilot with psionic powers, she joined the crew of the Sandpiper when they stole it from Ismail's father and ran from him, to prevent him from killing Ismail's little sister's boyfriend, Renfro. They scoured the galaxy looking for Forerunner artifacts, using Renfro and his vast knowledge store as a guide.
Ismail, played by Maya. Leader of the Sandpiper crew. Tough and very protective of her mates, she provided the steady hand they needed for mission after mission.
Antares Darkeye, played by Matt. A notorious space pirate, Darkeye was a crack pilot with wormhole navigating skills and a silver tongue to charm who he doesn't cut to ribbons. Three parts bluster and two parts action, he was never short on entertainment.
Sid Scorpio, played by Sid. Another ace pilot who also happened to be one of the galaxy's foremost troublemakers. If there was a pot, he stirred it. If there was a beehive, he kicked it over.
Leonid Kovnachuk "Chuk", played by Jason. A brooding Blarad from the GPR who stuck around with AAA Badass as much out of apathy as anything else. Once his close friend Gauswederow (Swede) was killed assaulting the Alien Base, he was never the same. He often took solace in kicking ass after ass.
Kayla Argent, played by Rumi. Secretive former deep cover PDF operative with a long list of memory problems, she met Oso and the Calyptrian on a starbase and worked with them to exploit economic imbalances all across the Mercantile League sector.
Xenes, played by Eric. Mysterious transhuman servant of Mr. Jorgensen, the benefactor of AAA Badass. What was his purpose among the crew, to help them or report on them? No one knew for sure.
Hrulfgarr Eriksonn, played by Ben. Grizzled veteran marine from a far away ice planet, his ability to do just enough in any situation made him legendary among his crewmates. One famous yarn involves him defeating a klackon warrior in single combat with only a vibroknife.
Ryssh K'Toaah, played by Justin. Crafty and powerful, this feline Avatar never forgot a friend...or an enemy.
Harry Greenhill, played by Gabe. Massively genetically engineered and cybernetically enhanced, Harry was one of the most formidable combatants in the galaxy. His secret mission to locate the missing company of PAPA troopers and their transport, the Destroyer Leader Ajax consumed him.
