This might be more appropriate for Exemplars, though maybe it would work in anything.

Rather than throwing XP completely out the window, I think this might work better. To receive an XP the player must fill out the following form. When an XP is granted, the counter is reset, in other words, anything that happened previous to that action is no longer eligible to be included. All pieces must have a unique entry.

Experience should be between the GM and player and (generally) not public. Any player whose character dies in a way that is good for the story will keep all of their accrued XP and earn 5 or more Xp for their next character.
