Angel of Death
Concept
This is another short shot brought to you by Ed. In this game, as in my prior Jin Dynasty game, there will be a defined goal for the characters and I predict the game to run for several sessions, maybe 6-12, but who knows. This game will focus on investigations by the characters to solve the case, the extent to which a particular character might evolve or be challenged on a deeper level would be up to each player. I envision the game to have little or no combat, but that depends on how the game unfolds.
The feel of the game will be one in which event happen (mostly people die) and the players can do whatever they want to investigate. My goal is to have several levels of things going on in the plot such that however deep the players want to go there will be more plot to find.
This game is based on an anime that i have been watching called Death Note. Gabe is familiar with it, but I think that won't matter too much as many of the details will be changing as i develop the setting.
Setting
It is the current day, whenever the game starts. Place: centered in Seattle. The world is as we know it except for the following:
There has been a wave of deaths among convicted criminals that is too regular and predictable to be anything but the act of a serial killer. Victims die apparently of natural causes in full view of multiple witnesses, and no poisons can be found upon autopsy. After 30 convicted felons drop dead in Seattle in one month, the press begin to report that the "Angel of Death" is judging the wicked. Rampant speculation among the populace is that supernatural powers are at work. An elite detective unit is formed to analyze the phenomena.
Hook: The group has the unified goal to uncover whether these deaths are a coincidence, and if not, how the killer is acting, and who the perpetrator is. The group could be:
1) FBI or local police detective squad. They would have all the resources and access that such a group would in the real world.
2) criminals who want this power for themselves (organized crime, terrorists, ...). They are not constrained by trivialities of following the law or proceedures of operation.
Characters: I think White wolf would be a good system, characters would start out at a fairly high level of proficiency.
Some character types who might be of use: Detective, Medical Examiner, Occultist/Mythology scholar, Researcher (computer programmer or other who accesses/searches information), Thug (although not likely to be any combat in the game). Plotlines will run at all levels of society, although many are likely to not be uncovered in the scope of the short shot game.
