Kirk Defense

The Kirk Defense is a standard Federation tactic used when encountering doomsday devices. It involves sending a large ship inside the maw of the machine and self-destructing the warp engines. It is highly destructive and risky. Luckily only two doomsday devices have ever been encountered. The first in the late 23rd century, by Captain Kirk and his crew, the second in the 24th century, during A Doomsday Like Any Other. The tactic was successful in the former, but could not stop the device on its own in the latter.
