Nanomachines are tiny "robots," often custom-designed for a specific task. They are often made up of one or more evacuated envelopes in the shape of a geodesic structure, or "buckyball." Inside the envelope is the guts of the machine, whatever small processors, memory storage, power supply, etc. the machine needs to complete its simple task.

Basic nanomachines are very simple and limited. With the addition of swarm behavior research and phased array research, they can be much more versatile and independent.
