Basic Concept

"Estalian Diestro" or Noble with a mysterious family past, and a strange inheritance.

History

Jao do Serra Alemeida is the sole surviving heir of the Serra Alemeidas, a Portuguese noble house. Having won their fortune trading with Japan a hundred years ago, since the closing of Japan to foreigners, the house waned in strength, until all that was left were Jao and his father Marinho. Jao was only six when his father was killed in a duel, and since that day he has dedicated himself to the art of fighting, and to the revenge of his father's death.

Jao was studied enough in letters to be welcome in most noble circles, until his predilection for duels and obsession with revenge earned him a land grant in the colonies, on condition that he not return. Upon the way, or during his stay, or whatnot, Jao was press-ganged, or voluntarily joined into pirate service.

Jao's prized possesion, given to him by his father, as his father died from a festering bullet-wound: a strange Japanese sword. Its weight is strange, and it does not fit at all with the style of fencing taught to Jao, and so he avoids its use.

Personality

Jao is a gracious, stylish, and charming man, for the most part. He knows enough about learned matters to be a good conversationalist, and affects in most manners the effete style of the current nobility.

His crewmates, though, call him "O Lobao" for a reason. Oftentimes, his polite chats end in indignation, with the glove thrown down, and afterward, a dead nobleman and Jao wiping his blade.
