Captain John Newton is the commanding officer of C company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division. While his dedication has never been called into question, his advance through the ranks has been mostly an academic progression. He is young, and has never led men in battle.
This is no longer the case, as while assigned to a training exercise at the Satsop Development Park, the Sweeps occurred. Cut off from the chain of command, Newton has been forced to take leadership to a whole new level.
Two days after the Sweeps and one day before Operation Torchlight, Captain Newton departed Elma with his infantry company to investigate the nearby National Guard armory just east of Central Park with the goal of gathering local Guardsmen if they had mobilized and reported to their duty station amid the chaos, or at the very least recovering the equipment, weapons, ammunition vehicles and supplies stored there.
