Patrick O'Flaherty is an Orion, and the captain of the Pride O'Rigel, a free trader registered in Orion Space. He claims to be a Federation citizen, but this has not been verified. During A Doomsday Like Any Other he and his crew were the first to encounter the doomsday device. He salvaged an IFF transponder type item which turned out to be a key to saving Ectair. His crew was subdued by marines under First Sergeant Stanley VanDriessen after Corporal Tom Hansen saw suspicious movement toward weapons. It has never been proven that they had malicious intent.
