--[[User:Dieterthebold|Dieter the Bold]] 01:20, 14 November 2011 (MST) That is in fact what's happened. There's still between 25% to 31% of the moon still intact, and the moon base is on that remaining chunk. Think of it as an inverse (and equally ridiculous) Space: 1999. I haven't decided on the reason why the moon base survived. For now, the explanation is that it was testing mass deflector & dampening shields powered by Handewavium when the comet hit.

--Jason 23:54, 12 November 2011 (MST)You talk of some moon base like I should know what it is. Did you base this on some alternate future history I should be aware of?

--Dieter the Bold 05:54, 13 November 2011 (MST) The year is 2064, and we established a moon base some time in the late 2040s. It's both a proud accomplishment of humanity's will and ability to work together and an embarrassing reminder that we've failed to travel farther than that. It somehow survives the Lunar Event and has become some kind of alien (due to their inexplicable motivations, not literally aliens) terror that needs pure human stock for unknown reasons. The residents of the moon base are unable to tolerate Earth's gravity anymore, so they make deals with enclaves to trade manufactured goods (incl. weapons) for humans (must have minimal genetic deviation from pre-event stock).

--Jason 11:22, 13 November 2011 (MST)So a comet hits the moon and destroys it, but somehow the moon base survives? I dont understand how that is possible. Is it now living on an asteroid that is what is left of the moon?

--Dieter the Bold 01:20, 14 November 2011 (MST) That is in fact what's happened. There's still between 25% to 31% of the moon still intact, and the moon base is on that remaining chunk.
