Regarding the recent departure of the Doctoral Candidate Alastair Quartermain, let me first assure you that nothing disposing the University, or its Sponsors, to legal or intellectual challenge has occurred. Second, the interests of our sponsors and the department have remained foremost in this matter, and I can guarantee that they have been carefully maintained. Specifically, Quartermain's data in Prothean Resonance or Mass Effected Resonance have all been seized and turned over the relevant parties. It is regretful that Quartermain was unwilling to abide by the rules and statutes of this institution, or to understand the necessary interactions between the funder and the researcher. Nevertheless, although he was noteworthy for his unorthodoxed and possibly even creative approach, there is no doubt that he represented at best a mediocre doctoral student. Those who have been assigned to look into the implications of his fortuitous discovery are undoubtedly better qualified to bring it to a satisfactory conclusion. Regardless of what results germinate from the seed he has planted, I think we can all rest assured that his contribution, insignifcant as it is, will fade into obscurity.

'Curriculum Vitae Brevium'
Alastair Quartermain came from an affluent merchant family who prized entrepreneurship. He shunned business, however, and set out for higher learning. Here, he proved to be creative if not the hardest working or even the smartest, and for his doctoral research proposed somewhat unusual research into novel ways to detect, and possibly influence, prothean technology. After achieving his candidacy, Alastair was informed that he would have to work closely with corporate sponsors of the university who intended to patent and market anything "useful" from his research. Rather than compromise his intellectual and creative freedom, Alastair quit, forswearing higher learning as the domain of hypocrites and toadies. He has become deeply disillusioned with the pursuit of knowledge for knowledge's sake: he feels that he now understands that money, which is power, makes the world go round. And if he wants to remain free, and help the people he cares about remain free, this is the only thing that matters.
'group history/ties' Alastair will be interested in working with Fizzak and/or "blackeye" to develop his theories on Resonance to better discover/understand prothean tech (quack idea or seed of genius? you decide...) More than anything, he wants to keep his independence and pursue what he values. He is very loyal to his friends. He is scrupulous to the little guy, but won't hesitate to screw over the bossman or the corps.
