Ignatio della Crux

What everyone knows is that Ignatio Della Crux is a mercenary general in Tilea, specifically the city-state of Miragliano.

Ignatio was once the general of a mercenary army being assembled by the brothers Giovanni, in a bid to capitalize on what most in Tilea saw as a coming political instability in the Empire. Two things derailed that fact: first, a group of outsiders exposed the Giovannis as having sinister intent, leading to their expulsion from the Dieci. Second, the Plague of 1111 struck, and with it came sinister, terrible things to Miragliano.

The city is but a shadow of what it once was, but some say whatever glory it retains is due entirely to della Crux. They say he re-forged his mercenary force into a stalwart defensive presence, and has fought bitterly to preserve the city.

Darker rumors swirl about the nature of what keeps him in Miragliano; he was born elsewhere and has no family ties, they say, so why fight a terrible, draining battle to preserve the city? Why not just leave?
