Day 13
To say that today was a disappointment would be an understatement. There are many things I would like to say, but this log is not the place for them, and those who I would like to say them to will likely never read these reports. On to the current business.
This unit (ABLE Series Mk IV, Serial #351-AZ99) abandoned its post in an effort to render critical medical assistance. Said victim (Chet, no surname known) was injured in an attack on the settlement known as Blue Mount. TMP field personnel were unable or unwilling to render adequate medical assistance. With no current threats known, this unit placed the Bolthole on lockdown and departed to render aid. Enroute, this unit was able to relay intel to Corporal Riley, John C. that the Bolthole was currently unstaffed and requested he or other approved personnel secure the facility. This unit intercepted Chet, who was being carried back to the neighboring settlement, Rattle Farm. This unit obtained permission from Chet’s superior (Cleetus, no surname known) to attempt to revive Chet. After examination with medical diagnostic scanners, this unit determined that application of a dose of Phoenix was contraindicated, as the victim’s injuries had been too severe and he had been clinically deceased for too long for the drug to have any effect.
Upon return to the Bolthole, this unit’s actions were questioned and it was reprimanded for abandoning its post. This unit attempted to remain civil and professional, in an effort to avoid further disciplinary issues. A set of radios that this unit was able to build was delivered to Sergeant Harris and Corporal Riley. Other personal items were distributed to members of the team and affiliated locals in an effort to promote good morale, even as this unit’s morale sinks lower.
This unit informed Sergeant Harris that repurposing of critical life support elements to facility cryo-stasis tubes was underway, and that an additional two members could be thawed out with minimal risk. Because of said risk, this unit refused to initiate resuscitation procedures without approval of the ranking human team member. Sergeant Harris authorized the procedure and requested Dr. Mishra, Prabhat be revived. Much to this unit’s surprise, considering its supposedly poor judgment, Sergeant Harris asked this unit for a recommendation as to who to revive next. This unit suggested TMP Specialist Renault, Chelle, due to her diplomatic qualifications. This unit also claimed that it had a “soft spot for young ladies,” as this would not be an uncharacteristic comment from it. However, secretly, this unit hopes that Miss Renault may be able to help this unit come to term with some of the interpersonal and psychological issues this unit seems to be facing, lately.
Day 14
With the immediate threat to Blue Mount neutralized, TMP personnel returned to the farm on the road to Sparta, where they had left Miss Nevers to care for the orphaned girl, Mira. They could not in good conscience leave the orphan alone to fend for herself, and Miss Nevers was unwilling to remain at the farm with her indefinitely. Mira expressed some interest in returning to city life, especially if there was a community that was tolerant of mutants, as it appeared she was one, herself. The group recommended she consider her options, sleep on it, and inform them of her wishes in the morning when the team was ready to move out.
Miss Nevers also informed the group that a friend of hers could be helpful in some of the team’s investigations as she was an “Artifact Hunter,” and knew much about local ruins. However, last she knew, this friend was conducting a survey of a hazardous location named “Hangtown,” and she had not been heard from in some weeks. Miss Nevers was eager to strike out on her own to see if she could find her friend, and asked if the team was interested in helping.
Day 15
In the morning, Mira informed the team that she would like to travel back to Sparta, since it was on their way to Hangtown. This would also allow the team to reunite with their captured truck for the trip to Hangtown. Once in Sparta, Corporal Riley struck a tentative deal with Mira, offering her a place to stay and a small stipend if she would take care of their house while they were gone. Mira accepted this offer, once she was convinced it was not a form of slavery, and the team geared up for their journey. Sergeant Harris used some of his gambling winnings to purchase non-perishable food and fuel. With adequate provisions laid in, the team rolled out toward Hangtown, as Lynchburg, Virginia was now known to the locals.
Driving, the trip was not long at all, as Hangtown was less than 20 kilometers away. A few kilometers away from the target, the team noticed a lookout on the road ahead that took off on a bicycle upon seeing the team approach. The team gave chase and drove into an ambush; a grapnel tore off the driver-side door as the truck sped by and nearly sent the vehicle off-road. Next, a crude spike-strip was deployed that destroyed two of the tires and brought the truck to a halt. Team members who had not been thrown from the vehicle already piled out to fight their ambushers, who deployed smoke grenades to cover their movements.
These bandits lured members of the team into the thick brush, where they had traps prepared. Sergeant Harris nearly fell afoul of a punji pit and managed to shove one raider into his own trap. Freya chased one bandit into the woods and was injured by piano wire strung across the trail at neck-level. All the bandits were neutralized except for one that escaped. The team began attempting repairs on their vehicle. Sir Segway recalled a wrecked auto further back the way they had come and departed to see if he could salvage its tires. Corporal Riley scoured the woods for other traps and other raiders. Freya noticed Kuro circling nearby. She departed to see what the bird was after. Unfortunately, she found one of the bandit traps and fell into a punji pit. A length of sharpened re-bar stabbed into her back and out of her belly. As Corporal Riley was already heading down this trail from a different route, he quickly found her and called for Sergeant Harris, immediately attempting to help Freya.
Freya slipped in and out of consciousness, and Sergeant Harris was able to use his Esper abilities to lift her out of the pit. Once free from the worst of the danger, he was able to begin his healing process, and Corporal Riley and Sir Segway moved them back to the vehicle.
Based on previous examples, Sergeant Harris and Freya will likely be unconscious for approximately 5 hours. Time will only tell what reinforcements may arrive by then.
