Werewolf QnA
--Edmiao 13:06, 10 January 2008 (MST)Is there a suggested age for our characters? seems like the elders are in their 30s-40s. should we be teens-20s?
--Gdaze-- Oh right I was gonna post that. Late teens or very early 20's is good. Most werewolves don't live past 30 to 40.
--Edmiao 20:58, 10 January 2008 (MST) I have some questions about werewolf societies. Gabe, please address the following with True or False and/or modify the statement to be true:
__T__ A Caern is like an extended family unit, each member can consider the others like cousins or uncles. This is the type of loyalty they share with each other.
-A Caern is actually a location usually defended by one Sept, which i smore like a "family unit". Septs use to be one clan but now are usually made up of more then one clan with 1 or 2 clans dominating the sept. While a caern has a sept, a sept does not always have a caern. They do have loyality and most septs have rival septs.
__F__ Members of a Caern live together in one location, each having their own room. kind of like housemates.
-Yes they do live together but how the caern is set up varies between each one quite a bit. Some might be a glade in a forest all the way to an outhouse.
__T&F__ Members of a Caern do not live together, but do live near each other within the same forest/county/city/metropolitan area. They see each other fairly frequently.
-Pretty much, again, depends on the set up. Also caerns must be defended at all times so most werewolves live there most of the year.
____ There are organized Caern meetings once a week that all attend.
__T__ Membership in a Caern is determined by your family history. If your parents were in a Caern, you will be too, as will be your siblings.
-Pretty much BUT lots of things can happen to have one booted out of a Caern, and remember its the SEPT that runs it. So its actually belonging to the sept.
__F__ Each werewolf is a member of a Caern since their change, and werewolves do not change caerns.
Its actually a sept, caerns are rare. Werewolves do change caerns.
__F__ Those destined to be werewolves know that they will undergo the change around puberty. they grow up in the society of werewolves and have witnessed their parents undergo the change frequently. This is true for werewolves born as humans and those born as wolves.
It is usually known to one of their parents, the werewolf, although sometimes the kinsfolk know as well. Most cubs have a spirit that watches over them and alerts the werewolves when the youth is about to undergo their first change. This is done to help the young werewolf deal with the sudden changes. The same is true for wolves but when they change it isn't quite as dangerous because there are few humans around and the wolfs can actually out-run the werewolf in crino form. The young werewolf does not know they will change.
__T__ Members of the caern are honor bound to follow the comands of their elders.
__T__ Most caerns have the same overarching goal: to deafeat the wurm. Again, read as septs, and some want to take out the Weaver now as well.
__T__ werewolves seldom work with other werewolves who are not in their caern. This is actually unfortuntly true. Although werewolves DO work together and when they do few can stand against them... they have a lot of pride and honor which gets in the way of working with other septs. But they DO work together.
__F__ Most werewolves belong to a caern. All werewolfs should belong to a sept, but as caerns are quite rare not all werewolves belong to one. In Washington however caerns are slightly more popular. Most septs DO try and set up caerns though, this is very difficult. (It requires burning off permanent Genosis and even then will not automatically work.)
--Edmiao 10:11, 11 January 2008 (MST) thanks fro the above, that helps. what is the difference between a sept and a caern? why is it difficult to set up a caern, isn't it more or less a social club?
--Gdaze-- No, as Matt said in the discussion page a caern is a holy site. There are different types of caerns too. Spirits also gather around here as well making Umbra travel easier. A sept is a group of werewolves untied by a common purpose. Basically a group with like ideas. Think of caerns as bases.
