Though once a happy, gregarious child, due to Faye's telepathic abilities developing far earlier than normal and thus unable to control it yet, she became ostracized, bullied, and even feared. After a third hospitalization at the age of 16, she was befriended by one of the doctors at Starfleet Medical. He came in daily and rather than running tests or reading over her chart, he would just pull up a chair and engage in a conversation with her. Though extremely withdrawn at first, she learned to trust him over time and began to open up. She later learned that this doctor was not one of her physicians, nor was he ever on duty when he would come see her. Moved by this profound act of compassion, Faye decided to dedicate her life to medicine in order to be able to help others.
