Several alien artifacts utilize power in ways that we do not yet understand. Often, it is not in the amount of power put out, but in the efficiency with which their machines and systems utilize it. This delicate balance demands investigation, lest the alien invaders wrest control of the Earth from us.
New Research Branches
Research into Power Systems helps us understand new ways of looking at the age-old problem of transferring energy from source to output. It also helps reduce inefficiency and power waste. Alien power transfer systems have a near perfect transmission coefficient, with very little loss. The combination of this means that a small power source could feasibly power a much larger system than ever thought possible; an electric car that could run on something the size of a normal car battery, or the electically-driven artificial muscles of a hypothetical exo-suit powered by nothing more than waste heat from the user's body and his own movements.
