--[[User:Jason|Jason]] 11:34, 15 May 2007 (MST)I hear what Ben is saying about the David Lynch Dune, but he is wrong, Lynch's Dune was fucking awesome.  I like, came in my pants when I watched it the first time.  Then I had wet dreams about Sting.  That was so awesome.  The Harkonnens were the best feature of the movie.  So vile!  I still have flashbacks of fat men floating.  We can watch something else.  How about Band of Brothers?  I can bring that.  Its loaded with action.  But, in the absence of Dune on the screen, Gabe, Does your dad have the Dune board game from Avalon Hill?  Thats a rad game and Ive been wanting to play it lately.  I bought it on ebay but who knows if it will arrive on time.

Revision as of 13:06, 15 May 2007

This page is for discussion of stuff related to the game coming up this week, no matter when that actually is. For instance, we can all assume Nate isnt coming for some lame reason and that Ed is sick of pizza and is bringing teriyaki or some other crap. They can post something here if that happens to be untrue.

Ranting and raving or other random comments

Matt and I were discussing gaming, as we are wont to do, over a fine pint of belgian lager, when a fellow asked us if we were talking about warhammer fantasy roleplay. Turns out the guy has been gaming for a long ass time, like many of us, and is interested in joining our group. Matt and I told him he could come to a session and we'd see how it worked out. We thought this would be good since I've had several discussions recently with people about our steadily sliding attendance at any given session: but obviously the bottom line will be whether or not he's a cool dude. He seemed like a nice person, so I'm hopeful. I think it'd be good to invite him to the next session that we play at my place, since I'm not comfortable inviting random dude A into Gabe's dad's place.

--Edmiao 10:46, 13 May 2007 (MST) didn't you have some friends who you were already intrested in inviting?

I did, but the one I emailed (Brandon) never replied, and Tor will never be more than a "once every 6-8 weeks, for half the night" (he lives on Vashon, so he has to catch a ferry home) kind of a player. I think this guy would be more of a regular.

Ben's Saturday Night Special: So, this saturday, I'm going to have a "slightly geeky" BBQ. We'll get together in the afternoon (say, 3-4) and bust out the board games. I'll get to grilling around 6, say: I'll try to get some costco steaks, and I'll let other people volunteer for salad, bread, other grill items, beer, etc. After dinner, hopefully my tv will be here, and we can watch some cool movie(s): band of brothers, gladiator, batman begins, LOTR, Matrix, Kung Fu Hustle, whatever. If the TV isn't here, we'll probably board game it up some more. After movie time, anyone that wants to stick around for some RPG action of an undetermined nature, can: this last part will be very "by ear". Gabe's dad and Dieter's dad are invited, as well as anyone else you want to bring: significant others, friends, siblings, whatever. Just let me know beforehand so I know what to expect.

Dune BITCHES!!!!!

So Im almost done reading Dune, and since you jokers are playing in a space game I thought you might be interested in the following activity. I have purchased the David Lynch version of Dune, and the Sci Fi Channel Dune and Children of Dune miniseries'. My plan is to have a megaDune marathon some weekend day. Skippy got a new super huge HD widescreen tv, and it would be perfect for this event. Anyone who wishes to attend is invited. If interested, let me know what day would work best.

--Matts 14:15, 11 May 2007 (MST)Dude, did you get the original like "Tv version" of the lynch Dune that's god-knows how long?? The Sci-fi channel one is pretty good.

--Jason 14:22, 11 May 2007 (MST)I got the 3 hour version of the Lynch one, that isnt actually one of his cuts. It also has the theatrical version on the same disc.

--BenofZongo 14:48, 11 May 2007 (MST)Speaking of "Special Event" BITCHES! Heather will be out of town at a climbing class a week from today (actually, saturday and sunday), so I might host some sort of movies/board games/one shot/bbq/whatever that afternoon/evening. We can discuss tonight/on the wiki and if there's interest, I'll try to come up with a programme.

--Edmiao 22:22, 12 May 2007 (MST) Cheryl and I are down for board games and movies and bbq or whatever next saturday.

--Jason 13:56, 14 May 2007 (MST)So Ben, whaddaya say we combine our activities? We have the BBQ and Ill bring some Dune dvds? Any votes?

--BenofZongo 17:57, 14 May 2007 (MST)Currently, the programme for saturday, I think, will be: mid afternoon: people come over and play board games of their choice, so that Ed's wife and Dieter's and Gabe's dad can attend (Any word from your dad, Dieter, about whether he can help out with the setup?. Late afternoon/early evening: Eat BBQ. Evening: Watch 1-2 movies on my new plasma tv. These can be any movies, as long as they have lots of action in them to inaugurate the big screen properly. Of course, this depends on the tv actually arriving at my house and being in good working order, so this whole part may get scrapped. The dune movie with Sting isn't one I'm terribly fond of, but if the miniseries is good (I haven't seen it) that works for me. Late evening: anybody that wants to stick around rather than go to sleep like a normal person can take part in some sort of one-shotty business. Right now it looks like I"ll be in charge of that just because nobody else wants to be (but if Jason wanted to be in charge, he could be). This last part is sort of a "whenever" kind of a thing, so it may start really late (ie, 11, midnight, whatever).

--Edmiao 00:20, 15 May 2007 (MST) the old Dune movie directed by David Lynch with Kyle Mclachlan and Sting was awesome. the extended version is also awesome, although a bit slow at points. that said, for a big screen debut, the special effects may be antiquated. the new Dune movies were ok, but not the greatest. I saw all three. The first of the new breed was so bad that i almost skipped the next installments. But the next installment turned out much better. I think the special effects were sci fi channel miniseries quality. which is decent, but no lord of the rings. speaking of which, i was going to netflix LOTR return of the king for that one scene ben wanted to see, unless Ben or someone makes a different request.

Shoot the Midget

--Edmiao 22:22, 12 May 2007 (MST)Jason, is there a next step in exemplars? Seems like you are pretty much out of the gaming group, or are you like Lazarus and will rise again to gaming greatness?
