This page is for discussion of stuff related to the game coming up this week, no matter when that actually is. For instance, we can all assume Nate isnt coming for some lame reason and that Ed is sick of pizza and is bringing teriyaki or some other crap. They can post something here if that happens to be untrue.

--Edmiao 09:18, 12 June 2007 (MST)absent, family in town.

--Gdaze 09:29, 13 June 2007 (MST) I will be absent as well, sorry but this weekend is very busy for me.

Jeremy just emailed me to say that he's out again this week as well. I'm still planning on running Gemini unless the rest of the players don't want to, in which case we can open it up for one shots, etc.

Ranting and raving or other random comments

--Edmiao 09:18, 12 June 2007 (MST) so how was the one shot? How's the job hunt, jason?

Ben: The one shot was good: it was a fun adventure with a good amount of creepiness without being over the top. The characters were fun too. We also played the Dune board game, which to my eye is like a vastly more violent version of settlers (albeit with significantly less play testing): I think it's a game that is designed to be played by 5-6 at once, though. Once we made some minor adjustments (as in, once we decided that somebody winning in the first round was dumb) the game was pretty fun.
as I've also mentioned to some people: the "lesser shades of evil" game I bought is pretty cool: I may use it to run a one shot sometime, or, if Matt or Jason don't start running something more permanent, I may advocate for a game using this system/setting (fancy that, ben wanting to run a system/setting "as is"). I'm almost done with the book, so if other people want to look at it, I can pass it around on Friday next. In terms of what it's like, I'd say it's got a mix of our PA game, the rifts supplement "wormwood", and the game "in nomine".
speaking of which, as far as I understand it, Dieter's place is still free this upcoming friday, and Jeremy has volunteered his place as a regular gaming abode, so I assume we'll be at one of those places. I'm also assuming we're playing Gemini: in case anyone forgot/was absent, we ended the session with your psycho-navigator falling unconscious out of his chair and alarms going off warning of a catastrophic overheating problem. Oh right, and you guys were somewhere *not* the location you had intended to arrive at.

--Jason 12:04, 12 June 2007 (MST)Things went well enough that it could continue later. The job hunt is similar to how it was a week ago in that I have still only interviewed two places, but one of them wants another. Im waiting to hear back from the other. I applied for about 20 jobs over the weekend too, including 2 positions at Fred Hutch...

--Edmiao 17:03, 12 June 2007 (MST) so is there an estimated start date for a CoC or Space marines mini-game? just curious. good luck on the job hunt!

--Jason 17:16, 12 June 2007 (MST)This will depend on what everyone wants. Do you guys want to do some one shots? Do you want to do a mini-campaign or full on campaign? All are possible. It also depends on whether or not Matt finds Space Marines while picking grapes. If no extra terrestrial soldiers are present near Matt's winemaking establishment, this could hasten the arrival of great Cthulhu.

--Matts 17:22, 12 June 2007 (MST)It seems to me that neither idea is a seriously long-term engagement (just because running Cthulu super-regularly tends to dull the impact, and SMitV is sort of designed as a short campaign). So the order isn't really material to me; I'd like to run SMitV soon, but if other people would rather play Cthulu, that's cool.

If the desire is out there to play SMitV, I could have it ready more or less as soon as people are ready to play it.

--Edmiao 22:55, 12 June 2007 (MST) Personally more inclined for CoC but up for either whenever. Jason, if you were interested in running a full campaign, is exemplars back on the list or have you lost interest in the game entirely? I enjoy mini or full campaigns more than one shots.

Ben: I've been wanting to kick in some skulls as a space marine for ever, so my preference is Smit(h)V. Also, this sunday, heather is on call, so I may try to organize some sort of informal gathering Sunday night: boardgaming or something of that sort. Any interest? Also, Ed, how'd CoH run? Still haven't installed Vista yet b/c I'm afraid it will re-destroy my intertron.

IT LIVES!!! and the internetzcape works without me having to do any sacrifices or anything! IT's a miracle.

--Matts 08:53, 13 June 2007 (MST)So, I want to run SMitV then, but unfortunately in 3 weeks I'll be back in palo alto probably, and the week after Rina's parents are in town, so neither slot works well. I propose SMitV starting in 5 weeks, on the 13th, and running for 3 sessions to start with, until the 27th.

Congrats on your intertronz, ben!

--Gdaze 09:28, 13 June 2007 (MST) I would be more interested in at least doing a few CoC. I don't really care if it is a two season thing or just a one shot. Either is fine by me. A whole arc might be fun too. The space marine thing sounds pretty fun too.

Ben: In that case it should probably just run straight through, since the first two fridays of August I will be gone. If you don't want to run it straight through, then we need to shift the start time back to, say, either the 21st or the 27th (I'll double check when I leave, may be the 27th).

--Edmiao 09:31, 13 June 2007 (MST) CoH was a bust. Dave's graphics card was not up to par so his machine was running like a snail in molasses so we swithced back to DoW dark crusade. Dave's looking for an upgrade. I had thought that five players would be ok, as it is easier to modulate the difficulty on the game, but turns out that the teams are fixed, so 4 humans vs 4 computers is the max. at any rate, usually dave and/or brian is bailing by like 9, and ryan and i are often up for going until 11 so we could do some switch hitting. or do random other nights. Ryan is aways against PvP, mostly because he hates to hear us wine while he whips our asses.

I've just about finished my Lovecraft short story collection, thus my CoC interest. read the first 6 issues of league of extraordinary gentlemen, and it turns out to have a lovecraftian inspiration (there's a short story at the end where Quartermain goes up against creatures from Yuggoth).

you fuckers have wiki-blocked me twice in a row. thanks

--Jason 12:41, 13 June 2007 (MST)Sounds like the plan is you keep doing what youre doing for 5 weeks, then Matt runs SMiTV for 3 weeks, then back on your current game. Once that has gone on a while Ill find some time to do CoC. It gives me the time I need to get this Charlie stuff taken care of.

depending on what kind of stuff you find there, btw, and what prices you are planning on charging, I may be interested in buying some of it, so keep me informed.

--Jason 12:54, 13 June 2007 (MST)He has a little of everything it seems. Give me an idea what youre after and Ill let you know what I find.

--Edmiao 13:02, 13 June 2007 (MST) dare i say....micronauts

--Jason 13:40, 13 June 2007 (MST)Check on the Micronauts, Charlie has lots of stuff in that era. And Ben, Im interested in doing something Sunday.

Dune BITCHES!!!!!

So Im almost done reading Dune, and since you jokers are playing in a space game I thought you might be interested in the following activity. I have purchased the David Lynch version of Dune, and the Sci Fi Channel Dune and Children of Dune miniseries'. My plan is to have a megaDune marathon some weekend day. Skippy got a new super huge HD widescreen tv, and it would be perfect for this event. Anyone who wishes to attend is invited. If interested, let me know what day would work best. Also, I got the Dune boardgame (won it, hasnt arrived yet), so I have included quite possibly the bestestest board game review EVAR!!1 [1]

--67.183.132.220 23:51, 26 May 2007 (MST)My house is probably too messy but I am up for a Dune event if someone else can host. I know its weak, I kinda suck.

--Dieter the Bold 19:37, 30 May 2007 (MST) My dad leaves for Europe on Thursday June 07. So we're welcome to game at my place that Friday and the Friday afterwards (6/15). We're also welcome to watch Dune and BBQ here (if someone has a BBQ to bring) that weekend or the weekend after. I also own the big tin box David Lynch Dune and my dad owns the SciFi miniseries of Dune. Anyhoo, just thought I'd throw that out there. The only downside is that parking is a bit tight. It's an apartment complex with very little visitor parking and nothing really good close by. This could be worked out, though.
