For hundreds of years, the Lazari kings have justly ruled this land of Melun. At least, the decent parts of it. Common folk call the Lazari half of Melun the "civilized" half, and it is little wonder: Agriculture, trade, technology have flourished under the benevolent rule of the Lazari.

Kantor Lazari is the latest illustrious monarch of the Lazari line. He is a man of immense ambition, ego, and stature. He is king by divine right.

He is also facing rebellion.

Ermine Sandis, lord of Trian, is said to have made common cause with the Sumtor peoples, made treacherous promises to the Haffon lords of Verdenes, and hired up all of the Raffaeli plains-warriors. It is clear he means to take Kantor's refusal to open the King's Canal as an excuse for regicide.

The players, as trusted, competent advisers to the Eternal King Kantor, must find a way to turn this grim situation around.
