The Washington State Patrol is the state police agency of Washington. Among many other duties, they provide executive security for the state governor and other high-ranking members of state government. Shortly after the Sweeps, the Elma Resistance arranged a meeting with Governor Jay Inslee. During this meeting, the governor and several members of his executive security detail were most likely killed by the detonation of a scout drone left in their custody.

The consensus among members of the Elma Resistance is that the members of the WSP ESD were mentally hijacked and would have set off the LD if they had been equipped with one at the time. Whether they were is unknown, but it is likely that the rest of the WSP (who don't know a thing about alien mind control) probably wouldn't care. It is likely that the group from Elma has garnered yet another formidable enemy.

Hostilities Arise

On February 3, 2014, Troopers from the WSP staged an unprovoked attack at the Elma City Hall building, wounding Judge Harlan Ruger (a retired Marine Colonel) and critically wounding Mayor Osgood. Members of the Elma Resistance thwarted the attack, though the WSP's target may have been AJ Kamastafall. LD scans of captured Troopers showed clear signs of alien corruption.

Later that evening, the Elma Resistance discovered that the WSP had bridged one of the demolished back roads with a military bridge-layer. They were fortifying this location with men, weapon emplacements and a military vehicle (Humvee). The Resistance got the approval of Judge Ruger (the recently appointed military authority overseeing the enactment of martial law in Elma), and attacked the site. They conducted a fly-by with a Blackhawk helicopter, strafing the WSP positions with machine gun fire. An assault drone operated by Doug Wilson was also deployed to the scene, and a few shots from its weapons were used to try and scatter the WSP Troopers.

These events leave little doubt that the majority, if not the entirety of the WSP in the area is a hostile force.
